Dr. Oz and Allergies: Essential Oils to the Rescue

March 22nd, 2012

Dr. Oz discussed allergies and several solutions to lessen the impact of the reactions to the irritation by the Immune System.

He came up with wearing large sunglasses for pollen; but that’s stupid when there’s a breeze that blows. You would have to wear a ski mask to keep the pollen out.

He gave the audience a few other suggestions, but failed to address the strengthening of the Immune System to put an end to allergic reactions.

Dr. Oz and Allergies

He thinks that shots and medication are decent solutions. Poppycock! They are band-aid methods which don’t change the underlying cause for the symptoms. The doctors that offer these to you are lazy or unaware of the improved methods for allergy relief.

You have to strengthen and balance the Immune System and the Blood. You can do this with whole foods, herbal formulas, nutritional supplements, and Lifestyle changes. The most effective changes can be accomplished with the use of Essential Oils.

People do have one very viable option available to them. They can move. Yes, it sounds extreme; but it works. Then you take the time to balance your body to deal with any substance for the future. My father used to live in Phoenix during the Spring and then return home after the bloom.

I prefer to strengthen and balance the body, that is a lasting and more intelligent approach. Visit an Aromatherapist to determine which EOs are ideal for you.

The Revolution: Harley Knows Next to Nothing About Healthy Sodas and Foods

March 22nd, 2012

I considered leaving this post entirely blank to illustrate just how much Harley knows about healthy sodas and food to make my point; but some people wouldn’t get it.

So I will spell it out. The Revolution is supposed to feature experts in a variety of areas to make it easier for a person to change and transform themselves. Harley is one of these experts on the panel.

Harley seems like a nice guy. He even appears to know what he’s doing when it comes to physical exercise and training. However, he knows nect to nothing about health and wellness, specifically when it comes to food and beverages.

I could hardly believe what I heard him say today! He told the audience that diet sodas were fine in moderation…several times a day. Are you kidding me!?!

He’s full of crap and apparently, full of diet soda. I am appalled by his lack of knowledge on this matter. No one in the world of Wellness would ever say THAT!

Then he chimed in on his erroneous belief that frozen foods are equivalent to fresh produce. Wrong again! What’s up with this fellow? He should stick to talking about muscles and exercise and leave the segments on food and beverages to someone who knows a thing or two.

There are healthy sodas and fizzy drinks on the market that are OK. There are times when you must use frozen food when seasonal produce is not available. But then, it is far better to eat what is fresh, in season, and ripe right now; if you are genuinely interested in Wellness. Anything less is a compromise…

China Cola, Reed’s Ginger Brew, Brain Toniq, and other healthy beverages are easy to find, so there’s absolutely no excuse for drinking a diet soda with artificial coloring, flavors, and sweeteners. It’s pure ‘sabotage’ to drink diet soda!

Safeway Wisely Decides to Remove Pink Slime Meat from Store Shelves

March 21st, 2012

Safeway is the second largest grocery store chain in this country next to Kroger, so this is a major decision that supports the public outcry to put an end to the marketing of inferior meat made with Pink Slime.

Safeway Decides to Rid Store Shelves of Pink Slime

Thankyou, Safeway, you’ve made an excellent and responsible choice to remove the contaminated meat product from your stores.

Now…people who would have stopped shopping at Safeway will feel more comfortable buying meat from Safeway and the other stores that have wisely made this declaration.

I know that we feel better about Safeway at this moment.

Next, we – the Public consumers directly affected by inferior food products – need to force the school systems to refuse to use Pink Slime beef in the school lunch programs. It’s essential for our children’s health.

If your school district refuses to protect the health of your children; then remove them from that school and place them in a more educated learning environment!

Once the school districts realize that parents and advocates are serious about this, they will either change their policies or face a reduction in the local tax base that funds public schools. They can put Pink Slime in lunches; but what will they do when no children go to their schools as a direct result of their blindness to the care and feeding of our youth?

The most progressive private schools are developing healthy food programs with children participating in the cooking and food preparation as well as the growing of the food they eat in school gardens. This is the curriculum that will survive and thrive!

Pink Slime was originally meant to be used in dog food, so what does that tell you about the mindset of the inspectors and employees at the USDA and other federal regulatory agencies. They aren’t as concerned about health as they are about money. Pink Slime is a cheap additive that extends real beef inexpensively. That’s their goal…not the well-being of the consumer.

The regulators and administrators are looking primarily at monetary issues and would prefer to try to convince you that these inferior ‘trimmings’ are just dandy when that’s far from the truth. We’re not buying the lies and arguments and we are not buying the Pink Slime now that the cat is out of the bag.

First Pink Slime is taken off store shelves, then out of school lunch programs, then out of restaurants. Then we will feel that our food supply is safer and healthier for all concerned. If anyone is left to east the Pink Slime, let it be those who proclaim it is safe at the USDA and elsewhere. Watch them develop degenerative diseases, become obese, feel ill, and die as a result of consuming chemicals and inferior scraps of meat.

The Chew: Comfort Foods For All the Years of Your Healthy Life

March 20th, 2012

It’s common for people to favor their childhood dishes that Mom made for comfort into their adulthood. All of the dishes can be healthy through the years of your Life.

The Chew panel discussed the love we share for ice cream, mac and cheese, and foods that speak to us from our earliest and best memories.

The Chew and Comfort Food Recipes

For the pasta dish, Michael Symon whipped up Beef Rigatoni and gave it a finish with some olive oil, a slab of butter, parsley, and some parmesan.

Carla prepared fried chicken and waffles with a delightful herb honey with lemon zest that made her shake, rattle, and roll with quivering memories.

Daphne prepared a Sweet Dreams smoothie with milk, banana, cinnamon, and honey to help her drift off to sleep with thoughts of the foods she grew up with on her mind.

Clinton made an ice cream pie with chocolate chip mint ice cream drizzled with a creme de menthe chocolate syrup.

It’s always possible to make any dish healthy. We can take old faves and exchange the old ingredients for organic fresh ingredients. It maintains our sense of our personal identity and preferences. It keeps what we cherish in the forefront of our minds.

We had a caretaker that made us the best grasshopper pies. My mom made spaghetti and meatballs that still takes me back to our first kitchen when I close my eyes. I make a chicken stir-fry with peppers and onions that carried us through so many satisfied sighs and yums over the years. Between mashed potatoes and tofu cheesecake, we find comfort in old recipes that get new twists and turns as the years progress.

Dr. Oz and the Neurotic Hungry Girl: When Obsessive Behavior Meets Compulsive Calorie Counters

March 19th, 2012

It’s no secret that I have no respect for Lisa who calls herself the ‘Hungry Girl’. I change the channel when her show comes on the Food Network.

She’s neurotic and she is obsessed with counting calories while butchering foods to – stay hungry.

She says it’s about ‘no deprivation’ and feeling satisfied; but why call yourself ‘hungry if that is the real truth. I’m not buying it!

She would call herself the ‘satiated girl’. She only identifies with being hungry…

Dr. Oz and the Hungry Girl: Counting Calories and the All-Consuming Neurosis

She endlessly and needlessly swaps, cuts, and twists food recipes until they no longer resemble what the dishes were once upon a time. I couldn’t and would not eat that way…hello, I don’t even want to think that way!

She uses a lot of packaged items, she thinks that calories are more important than other aspects of food, and she is lost in the morass of marketing to people looking for improvements in food preparation.

She has a following, but how healthy are those people?

She uses a lot of frozen foods and we’ve discussed the lack of Chi in frozen or canned foods when compared to fresh. That a ‘bad habit girl’!

We eat to be satisfied. We eat to nourish our bodies. She is doing neither…

I hope that Dr. Oz doesn’t fall victim to her calorie-counting madness – it’s neurotic behavior and no one should model that behavioral cue.

Just like Paula Dean and her fatty southern fare, this is Lisa’s niche and she won’t abandon it. Fortunately, people don’t need to fall for the trickery and misleading gigs when there are healthy and satisfying ways to eat great food!

Longevity Around the World In Eighty Years or Longer

March 18th, 2012

The average American lives to the ripe old age of 78 years. The CIA has followed the statistical data to compile some profiles of other nations where people outlive residents in America.

The Top Hotspots for Longevity

You may not be willing to move to another country to extend the length of your Life, but you certainly can change your Lifestyle to model the behavior responsible for long life in these countries.

Most of the reasons were practical and relegated to a healthy diet, healthy outdoor activities, and wealth to afford better nutrition and ‘quality of life’ regardless of which artificial boundary of any of these countries we are talking about.

Someone with wealth can live virtually anywhere and have a healthy Lifestyle that adds years to one’s Life. In many of the named nations, wealth and prosperity allowed people to eat well. Rice, fish, and vegetables in Asian countries with European countries enjoying the benefits of a Mediterranean diet.

The quality of the healthcare system seems significant. Gambling and tourism don’t particularly pertain to longevity, except that they continue to lead active, involved lives and interact socially with a wide variety of people. A healthy environment and a satisfying workplace have their place. Fresh air and outdoor activity shows signs of healthy living. Education and independence have much to offer. Yet, diet still trumps all of these factors!

Ponce de Leon may have never discovered Bimini’s secrets or the Fountain of Youth, so people have had to rely upon physical and attitudinal approaches to Longevity. One day perhaps we’ll share the hidden knowledge of the water that springs eternal and makes he who drinketh from this well immortal… For now, focus on your diet and environment and attitude!

Dr. Oz on Caraway Seeds and Saffron

March 17th, 2012

It’s no secret that I am not happy with the approach that Dr. Oz takes to nutritional supplements and food. He treats them like drugs.

That’s ridiculous, but leave it to a physician to see the world in ways that reflect his medical training, instead of common sense and experience.

You would think that he would see food differently, since he’s been eating longer than he has been practicing medicine.

While he is still a relative ‘newcomer’ to the field of nutrition, he could have gained a little perspective along the way.

Dr. Oz on Caraway Seeds and Saffron

On Friday the repeat episode for fat-burning fixes brought this worldview to bear on his advice to his audience.

Dr. Oz tried to sell people on the idea of caraways seeds to chew as an effective method for this goal.

Do you know how long anyone is really going to spend chewing a handful of caraway seeds?

Seriously, it is not realistic to think that a person would do this meal after meal for more than two days. The gas and bloating are less of a hassle than all that chewing…

It’s much more reasonable to eat rye bread that has caraway seeds baked in with the whole grain rye flour. Of, course, caraway seeds can be added to potato salad and other dishes that get their fair share of chewing built in automatically.

Recipes using Caraway Seeds

Then there’s the misrepresentation of the use of saffron as a supplement. Saffron is best soaked in liquid to release the active ingredients and goes with the territory of food. Paella and saffron rice with its remarkable color are but two of hundreds of dishes where saffron shines.

Saffron was not meant to be taken as a pill with a single sip of water. It is expensive and takes hundreds of man-hours to gather, dry, and prepare for flavoring our food. If you have seen the women in the purple fields gathering the parts of the crocus flower that are then carefully handled as they dry and are readied for market; then you might better appreciate saffron as it was intended to be used in food preparation.

The Chew and a Shamrock Smoothie for St. Partick’s Day

March 16th, 2012

The Friday episode of The Chew featured recipes and ideas for St. Patrick’s Day.

Daphne Oz prepared a Shamrock Smoothie to celebrate this ‘green’ holiday in style and with a healthy beverage. She combined bananas with coconut milk, spinach, peppermint extract, and chocolate chips for a refreshing ‘green’ drink in honor of the Irish.

You could use real mint leaves and substitute soy milk, rice milk, or hemp milk should you find no coconuts on the Emerald Isles. If you don’t have spinach, you can use some spirulina to keep it green and healthy.

The Chew and St. Patrick’s Day Recipes

There recipes on today’s show included the usual cabbage, potatoes, peas, and meat in three versions of Shepherd’s Pie and other popular Irish dishes. The Chew crew put their spin on some recipes to make them extra special for tomorrow when you just might find a little gold at the end of your rainbow.

Dr. Oz and Montel: The Pain So Bad That Suicide Gets Consideration

March 15th, 2012

This repeat episode of Dr. Oz emphasizes the deplorable situation in medicine we face today for Pain Management.

Montel Williams is brutally honest and tells his story to illustrate the point when a person can no longer tolerate chronic pain and thinks about ending his Life by suicide.

Relief is sought…no matter what!

When traditional western medical approaches do not work, there has been no other option for people with severe pain that don’t respond to drugs, physical therapy, or surgery.

This is the impetus behind the use of medical marijuana, new technology, and more natural methods to alleviate the pain. No one who is experiencing pain every moment of every day is going to be able to dismiss it.

Montel chose his path and it worked for him. Other people have used other approaches and found relief. Some people feel that they have the Right to terminate their own lives whether in their own way or assisted by a doctor.

The bald physician sitting next to Montel would not qualify to treat anyone I know with an ego that supersedes common sense and compassion. How dare he criticize the health care professional who counsels patients about ‘end-of-life’ care. How dare he attempt to usurp the power of the individual to make their own choices in this matter. He gives doctors a ‘bad name’! It’s no wonder that organizations and professionals have developed alternatives to such ignorance when people face Death.

Dr. Oz Talks with Montel About The Right to End Your Own Life

For so many who endure constant mind-numbing pain. they feel that Life is no longer worth living when pain disables their ‘Quality of Life’. Death is desired more than continuous pain.

Most doctors don’t want to pursue euthenasia for humans and only think it is merciful for animals. Although, there are some doctors who are willing to assist a person with no other options end their Life with the more acceptable methodology. It’s better than the use of a gun, slitting a wrist, or over-dosing on drugs. Who is so afraid of what happens after the death of the physical body that they would prolong suffering, rather than death with dignity.

We’ve talked about the alternatives for Pain Management here on the blog and all of these ways need to be given a fair chance to work before one considers death.

Dr. Oz and 5 Controversial Ways to Deal with Medical Issues

March 14th, 2012

Dr. Oz thinks Chiropractic health care is controversial! Where on earth did he get that idea other than from his medical school chums and instructors. Nothing could be further from the truth.

We’ve been enjoying the benefits from chiropractic treatments since the 1970s. I have been particularly satisfied with Palmer graduates. The world of chiro is deserving of your participation which will determine for you just how effective it is for back pain and other structural and functional issues.

Then Dr. Oz shows more physician ignorance that pervades their circles by asking if Fibromyalgia is real. It took years for doctors to accept this as a disease and use it as a diagnosis. Perhaps it’s because doctors have so few effective treatment protocols for chronic pain other than surgery that is the reason why they look the other way.

Dr. Oz did admit that surgery for back pain is not necessarily the way to go… What a relief! It’s about time. Pain is a tricky issue. Marijuana has only recently gained favor in treating disabling pain. Other progressive therapies are being explored to give patients options.

Dr. Oz and Controversial Treatments

Physical Therapy, stretching, acupuncture, massage therapy, and yoga have all been mentioned by Dr. Oz and his guests. In addition to OTC pain relievers, the application of CieAura Chips and taking products to reduce inflammation are effective.

CieAura Holographic Chips

We’ve used pearl powder and the juice of the Nopales cactus to alleviate inflammation. Essential Oils are also extremely effective for painful conditions. Start with the simple methods and go from there until relief becomes you!
