Dr. Travis Spills the Beans About Sugar: All Sweeteners Are Not the Same

July 5th, 2011

It was virtually the last topic of the day of this episode of TheDoctorsTV, but at least Dr. Travis said it!

He explained how different sugars and sweeteners are different and how the body’s health is affected by high fructose corn syrup and refined sugar.

Hallelujah!

We wait for moments like these…

When doctors realize the harm that sugar and refined carbohydrates do to the human body and tell you to avoid these processed sweeteners, it is a milestone in the advancement in Western Medicine.

It takes a long time for many physicians and individuals to come to this realization. Eventually, they figure out that not all sweeteners are created equal. Speaking of Equal and sugar substitutes, they are even worse for the human brain and body than refined sugar or fructose.

It is getting to be more of a health hazard as GMO crops of corn are turned into high fructose corn syrup and hidden in many processed foods. You have no idea what strange DNA is in those crops that are experimental disasters for the human race. You can’t trust Monsanto or agricultural growers who use these agents to alter the genetics of a plant without adequate research using longitudinal studies properly…

Your only hope for maintaining a healthy Lifestyle when it comes to sweeteners is to use organic cane sugar, honey, stevia, date sugar, blue agave syrup, maple syrup, and other natural sweeteners with your food and beverages. They are wonderful and you won’t be disappointed.

You can adapt any recipe with relative ease and perform taste tests that will convince you that going organic and all-natural with sweeteners is the ‘only sane way to go’. I haven’t consumed refined sweeteners in more than forty years! I have never felt deprived and I have found flavor in foods that far exceed that old attempt to make food sweeter with refined sugar.

Thanks go out to Dr. Travis Stork and other doctors on this program as well as many other physicians who are waking up to the facts about refined sugars and human health.

Dr. Oz and His $1 Diet: The Dean Brothers, the Diets, and Your Health

July 4th, 2011

The episode about the $1 Diet repeated the original Dr. Oz show today. I suppose that Dr. Oz is celebrating the 4th of July with Lisa and his daughters today. I doubt that he is limiting his budget to one dollar today! That would equate to one hot dog… Eventually, he will return to tape new episodes for the next season of his TV show.

Dr. Oz and the $1 Diet

He is stuck on diets. There was one show when he realized that diets were NOT the answer to a healthy Lifestyle. But then he regressed and gave his audience the $1 Diet.

If you really think that you are going to thrive on the Dean Brothers’ idea of $1 food dishes; then all I can do is to wish you a lot of luck. While these two young whippersnappers are cooking better meals than their mother, Paula; they still have a long way to go before I can call the dishes they featured on Dr. Oz to be truly healthy. They are cheap, but they are not going to really support your ideal maintenance of your weight any time soon… Sorry, boys!

Dr. Oz recommends kale and seasonal foods, but I just cannot get behind the idea of canned salmon or canned anything for that matter! The only exception would be if you canned your own fresh produce from your garden during harvest time to preserve what you could not eat while in season…or if you had some Food Storage for emergencies.

The Dean Brothers are in California in Wine Country doing the next Great Steak Contest, so they should get some good ideas for fresh food from the recipes this summer. Where are the salads, seaweeds, legumes, and fresh fruit? Boys…you can do better, just ask Jamie!

I am offended when Dr. Oz puts on his website the thought that you don’t need to spend money on organic foods. That’s an irresponsible statement. When you develop cancer and other degenerative diseases, because you took his advice; you can ask him for money to pay for your expensive medical bills! Organic foods pay for themselves ten times over by keeping you healthy, strong, and free from disease when you eat a balanced natural foods diet. There was not one thing that I would have eaten on the Dr. Oz show with the butter brothers today!

It’s doing a little better than butter, cream, fried foods, and sugar-laden desserts; but canned tomatoes and lots of cheese just doesn’t cut the mustard for a healthy dietary regimen. You would do better to eat fresh organic fruit, steam some vegetables from the garden, and have your brown rice with beans instead of chicken. There was a meager attempt to get some veggies into their $1 dishes, but not enough for my recommendation for a healthy and sound diet of whole foods that are based upon plants…not meat and cheese.

Your health depends upon more than a few pounds and your body suffers internally when you don’t get enough nutrients from fresh organic whole foods. I have watched the Dean Brothers grow up, get married, have children, and go on to do their own thing in the Foodies world after Paula got her gig with the Food Network. They are still ‘meat and potatoes…and wine’ guys. There’s room for growth.

Did you know that your body will acclimate to an organic whole foods plant-based diet and take you to your ideal weight and bodily proportions? It happens… You don’t have to work hard at it. You don’t have to count calories until you are neurotic. You don’t have to quit eating foods that taste good. It’s a more natural process with greater benefits than weight management. You can enjoy authentic well-being, Longevity, and a superior ‘quality of Life’ by living a healthy Lifestyle.

World Wide Health Directory: Resources and Referrals for Health, Wellness, and Professional Assistance

July 3rd, 2011

I don’t intend to insult the qualifications that Dr. Oz or the physicians from TheDoctorsTV show possess, but they are often inadequate when it comes to wanting a professional who is qualified in Holistic Health and Wellness.

It’s one thing to be well-versed in disease and pathology, whereas it’s quite another to have the knowledge and wisdom to provide guidance for people who are interested in a healthy Lifestyle, Well-Being, and Longevity.

It’s a word of difference…

So…here’s a WorldWideHealth Directory that offers plenty of resources and useful information for those who want to be well.

Grill and Barbeque with Sauces, Dips, and Dry Rubs for Independence Day

July 2nd, 2011

If you are planning on using your Grill outdoors for the Fourth of July Independence Day feast or if you are going to barbeque at any time through the summer, you need to have good sauces, seasoning blends, dry rubs, and dips that will make your food taste great.

Barbecue, Grilling and Dipping Sauces

Of, course, you can build a BBQ Sauce from scratch with molasses, brown sugar, vinegar, salt, herbs, and spices; but you might not quite get the flavor that you are looking for when winging it on your own… It all depends upon your degree of skill at blending ingredients in the kitchen.

These BBQ sauces are in bottles and ready for you use. If you find that you like one or the other, then study the ingredients and come up with your own recipe. These sauces will give you ideas to work from to develop your very own.

You may not be able to find some of the spices in your neighborhood store or you might have never heard of one of the ingredients. It’s good to explore your options. Food during Independence Day parties is one of the reasons why people get out and socialize on this holiday. We have created a tradition of celebrating this holiday with food prepared outdoors and served outdoors while watching the kids play and the fireworks later in the evening. The food needs to be really GOOD!

So to get more ‘bang for your buck’, you can use organic ingredients or give these bottled sauces and seasonings a chance to impress your family and your guests this year. While I am in favor of the powerful flavor that comes from fresh organics, there is a place for bottled sauces at this time of the year.

I would also suggest that you experiment with grilling fresh organic fruits like pineapple, peaches, and bananas for dessert. You can use a glaze of ginger root, honey, lemon juice, and mint to guild the Lily. Cinnamon and other spices are perfect for both sweet and savory grilling.

You might as well put the vegetables on the Grill, too. Roasted red peppers, eggplant, potatoes, artichokes, fennel, onions, and other veggies make a BBQ into an Event to Remember for years to come! You can perk them up on the grill with organic olive oil, garlic, grated ginger root, turmeric, cumin, and other flavorful spices. Top them off with fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, chives, scallions, and basil. You can even sprinkle some Gomasio on your roasted vegetables, salads, and beans to add that special ‘something’ that makes it all taste better!

For some more ideas about grilling vegetables and seasoning things like corn, you can visit the Urban Accents website and find some ready-to-go spice blends that will astound your palate and spoil your taste buds. Put some fireworks in your food this Independence Day!

Expedition Impossible Offers You a Chance to Overcome Your Fear: Live As If There is No Tomorrow

July 1st, 2011

We’ve watched two episodes of the new reality show, Expedition Impossible and it’s an exciting example of how ordinary people can overcome their fears to conquer extreme challenges in their lives.

It’s not your typical reality show. It does have most of the same elements, including competition between teams, personal emotional drama, exotic locations, and a set of rules playing out wild scenarios that seem impervious to the film crew while being death-defying for the participants. But then again, some people thrive on danger and outrageous odds that you don’t typically find in Nature.

Expedition Impossible on ABC.com

Why would you bother to watch for one hour every Thursday?

When you see people like you in circumstances that you would never willingly enter into no matter how much money you were paid to put yourself in weird situations, it still somehow changes your attitude when you watch other people conquer their fears and do things that they don’t initially believe they are capable of accomplishing. It challenges you to find the part of yourself being reflected within the people in the show and you learn that you might be more equipped to handle the unimaginable than you previously thought!

This will indirectly strengthen your personality to be better equipped to deal with change. You will be more able to cope with conditions that you least expected to happen to you. You will have the opportunity to develop the qualities of courage and determination in the face of fear, hesitation, and the reluctance to act when confronted with life-threatening events.

Why might this be a part of a healthy Lifestyle?

The reason for fortifying your personality with greater resources prepares you for the unexpected. It’s one thing to think yourself invincible, but it’s quite another to feel that you have the power within yourself to overcome all odds and get through any difficult challenge. This attitude can be extremely useful in the course of your daily Life. You can apply this at home, at work, and at play…

For instance, you can welcome new experiences. In the case of most of the contestants on this program, they had never repelled down the steep cliff face of a mountain before. It takes a lot of trust in yourself and personal courage to put on the carabiner and rope and begin backing down over the precipice. Once you face the resistance to do something that you’ve never done before, it suddenly becomes easier to do something new again and again and again. You build a willingness to introduce the ‘unknown’ into your Life. Amazing experiences come to you when you open this door…

I know just how exhilarating the moment of repelling hundreds of feet down the cliff face is for the first time. When I was in college I took this leap of faith in myself and scaled the Bagged Rocks in Wyoming. I fell in love with mountain climbing in the Rocky Mountains, the Zircle Range, the Sierra Madres, and many other mountains close to where I lived over the last fifty years. I have enjoyed profound moments in Nature when venturing in the hills and mountains that also became metaphors for any challenge in my Life.

I have stood on Mount Rainier in wonder of incredible sunsets and welcomed the sunrise in the Snowy Range when camping in the most inaccessible of places. I have whistled with the Elk while sitting on the ledge of the Zircles with no ropes, no gear, and only my own physical strength to carry me across chasms. You are equally capable of finding such treasures in the wilderness…

Last night on the second episode of Expedition Impossible, many of the individuals were thrown for a loop when they attempted to navigate the shallow river in an inflated canoe. Some of them even tried to scoot across the rocks when their weight made it virtually impossible to be pulled downstream by the current. It never occurred to them to step out of the canoe and walk to the deeper parts of the river! You can find yourself thinking of alternative solutions to these contestants’ dilemmas when watching this happen to them. This will improve your decision-making skills and your ability to think on your toes when you have to find a creative solution in your daily Life.

All in all, this show is dramatic and funny with temperamental camels and kicking stallions along with the calculating individuals that pit themselves against other people, instead of challenging themselves to accomplish the tasks presented to them. You have a good example of how to build a Team, how to look within yourself to unlock your own personal power, and how to keep going when you could just as easily quit. These attributes will serve you well in Life…

Dr. Oz and a Better Choice Than Valerian Root Tea for Sleeping, Snoozing, and Calming Down

June 30th, 2011

I believe that I have mentioned this before, but it deserves to be brought to your attention yet again with this Dr. Oz episode being repeated today.

Dr. Oz recommended Valerian Root Tea as a Sleep aid. I don’t think that people should drink this herbal tea on a regular basis. It is better to use Valerian Root only when other nervines don’t work. The issue is that some people take too much and this can create a problem with sedation far greater than needed or desired to get a good night’s sleep.

If you need to take something to get to sleep at night; then what you really need is a Lifestyle change. It’s important that you don’t rely upon anything to put you to sleep. It doesn’t matter whether it is a pharmaceutical or a natural product, it’s not desirable to have to use any substance to get rest.

You can drink some Chamomile Tea with dinner or use some Blue Chamomile or Lavender Essential Oils on your temples when you are ready to retire to go to bed. But usually, you want to use these remedies only when you’ve had a stressful day.

There are massage techniques that help with relaxation that you can do for yourself or with a partner’s assistance. A lovely warm bath works when you have the time to relax in the tub. You can listen to soothing and calming music.

Dr. Oz also mentioned Chia Seeds which are thought to have more tryptophan than other foods like warm milk. It’s better to take your Chia Seeds as meal with your dinner or a snack in the early evening. I am not a big fan of wheat germ, because it is often rancid. If you can be certain that your source of wheat germ is fresh; then it’s suitable on some yogurt…but not on a Hot Fudge Sundae like the one on the Dr. Oz show. Some chopped nuts go along with these foods very nicely…if you don’t have the time to dish out a bowl of plain yogurt or make a little something to nibble on with the Chia Seed meal as an ingredient.

It’s preferable for you to find the causal reasons for not being able to get to sleep or stay asleep all night. Are you drinking too much liquid late at night? Are you eating stimulating foods too close to bedtime? Are you watching TV in bed? Are you taking too many alcoholic beverage drinks late in the evening? These things add to restlessness.

The best thing that I have to offer you that is simple, yet effective are the CieAura Holographic Chips that can be placed on your body or your nightgown or undies…if you wear an article of clothing to bed. I usually place the Chip on an acupuncture point for best results. The Chip sticks to your skin, but can be removed and used again for many nights. This is cost-effective, too. You will love these Chips!

Dr. Oz on Lung Cancer and Radon Gases in Your Home: When To Move and When To Breathe

June 29th, 2011

Dr. Oz repeated this episode about Lung Cancer and Radon in your home.

He tries to put the fear of cancer into any discussion…it’s his style. But be aware, he is personally grappling with his own scare of colon cancer. The colon is the paired organ to the lungs in TCM.

While it’s true that a person can get Lung Cancer even though they don’t smoke or are rarely exposed to second hand smoke, there are many other causes that Dr. Oz didn’t cover. He hinted at a few.

Smoking is always targeted as a primary cause of Lung Cancer, but what doctors don’t know is that tobacco is warming and the person will crave tobacco to warm the lungs. When the lungs are affected by ‘cold’ at the energetic level, cancer and other diseases can begin in the tissue. If you are going to smoke to warm your lungs; then use organic tobacco, instead of the chemical butts that most companies produce. There are other herbs and foods that will warm the lungs.

If you drive a vehicle and if you find yourself in traffic or at stop lights behind other cars; then you can be assured that there are fumes that you are breathing that can damage the lungs. You should take alternative routes with less traffic and fewer traffic lights to diminish this risk and exposure to toxic chemicals that injure delicate lung tissue.

You should also use Liquid Zeolite to detox from these chemicals in the environment in the atmosphere on a regular basis. If you were serious about PREVENTING Lung Cancer, you would move to a rural area with clean air to breathe…all the time. This requires a dramatic change in your Lifestyle, but it is exceedingly beneficial.

When you live in a city that is polluted, you are going to be weakening your lungs every time you take a breath. Your body deteriorates when it lacks oxygen and cancer can get a firm foothold when this happens and your Immune System is deficient. You really owe it to your health to live in a small town or out in the country where you are surrounded by trees, plants, soil, and fresh air to keep your lungs healthy.

I have written in previous posts about the nutritional products, herbs, and whole foods that nourish the lungs. You can also go to your Acupuncturist and be treated to balance the Lung Meridian and that will be valuable in maintaining the health of your lungs.

Radon Gas is a real problem in many areas of the world, especially where people build basements into the soil without adequate ventilation or building practices. Radon can build up to the point that it will damage your lungs.

Sure…you can get your home tested. If you find that there are lethal or dangerous levels of Radon; then sell your house or rent it to someone who doesn’t care about this risk. Get out of there… The expense of mitigation doesn’t always guarantee that the problem will be sufficiently eliminated altogether. If is more safe to leave that location than to risk any degree of exposure, particularly if you have children in the home.

If you find out that you have been breathing in any quantity of Radon Gas, then it’s time to do a good Detoxification program for several months. You should also strengthen your lungs using the methods described above with herbs, EOs, and whole foods.

Mad Hungry with Lucinda Quinn: Recipes, Demonstrations, and Farmed Trout

June 28th, 2011

With all of the repeated episodes of TheDoctorsTV and Dr. Oz, I have been looking for some fresh material for you.

I was watching Lucinda Quinn who has worked for Martha Stewart and now has her own cooking show on the Hallmark channel during the weekdays.

Lucinda usually prepares her special take on traditional recipes. You’ll enjoy her techniques and the demonstrations that make food preparation look easy. She explains even the simplest concepts and procedures in a way that you can relate to, especially if you are just beginning to expand your repertoire.

She was preparing fish dishes and the halibut looked very tempting. I had not seen fish prepared in olive and vegetable oil before in this manner. I plan on trying that method with the more tender white fish on the market.

Lucinda Scala Quinn on Mad Hungry TV

Lucinda also used parchment as a little package for a shrimp dish with kale, beans, onions, and other ingredients that made a delightful serving idea. You can find some good recipes on her website. But I must tell you that you will need to do some adaptations to make her recipe ingredients more healthy. Let’s start with the farmed trout issue!

I will explain the importance of eating wild trout and wild salmon below, but I wanted to be sure that you know that there are people who are bringing you sources of healthier seafood and fish. You can get sustainably-harvested seafood for your home kitchen from VitalChoice. It is a trusted site that will offer you an education on the relative importance of which fish to eat in order to be environmentally-responsible.

VitalChoice Seafood

Now…I have one issue to take up with Lucinda and something that she mentioned on today’s episode. She tried to tell her viewers that farmed trout was alright. That’s just not necessarily the case! In fact, I would not trust any fish that is farmed, especially salmon and trout.

If you are going to eat trout or salmon, then get it from fresh waters. Do the legwork and go fishing… It’s fun. I have fished some of the finest blue ribbon rivers in Wyoming for rainbow trout when I grew up there many years ago. I would visit my friend who lived at the Fish Hatchery and those little guys were not healthy. The health risk of farmed fish is ‘whirling disease’ where the farmed fish released into the wild rivers and lakes spin around in a circle. It’s the fish form of mad cow syndrome!

So Mad Hungry might be wise to edit that episode and suggest that people only eat fish that come from pristine rivers and lakes and streams. You wouldn’t want your brain to turn into mush, because you blindly accepted farmed fish as safe to eat…

Dr. Oz and Survival Kit Items for Women Over 40: Slow and Reverse the Aging Process

June 27th, 2011

Dr. Oz is trying to give women over 40 years of age more hope and useful tools to use to deal with their aging bodies. We’ve had better tools and resources for centuries, so you can take advantage of the knowledge that exists that is visible in the Asian cultural beauty of older women who age gracefully, slowly, and look exceedingly beautiful into their later years in life.

Dr. Oz gets hung up on sex a lot of the time and today’s episode was no different. The expert talked about lubricants to resolve dryness and several other suggestions, but these people are missing the point. How can a women feel up to getting her body turned on for sex when their is a deficiency? It doesn’t happen until your restore the energy, then you are as qualified as any other age to get fulfillment and satisfaction without exhaustion.

Dr. Oz and most Western Medical professionals have no idea about how the human body signals deficiencies of Yin, Yang, Chi, or Blood. This is a foreign concept to them and women in their care pay the ultimate price for their ignorance. If a human being, male or female, does not replenish and nourish their bodies, they become deficient. There are often inherited weaknesses that appear as deficiencies as well. The only way to truly resolve deficiencies of any kind is to feed the body with herbs, whole foods, and energy. This is common knowledge in the East! Why is the West so clueless?

Women need a better Survival Kit full of items like creams, suction cups, surgery, or KIND bars. There are tried and true remedies available when you know where to go and who to talk to…

You can easily and effectively slow or reverse aging by employing these ancient strategies and using these foods and herbs to restore the bio-energetic properties of your body. This is the value of Bio-Energetic Medicine!

It’s one thing to use Red Wine as a facial, but you really should be drinking it instead. You can enjoy fresh organic oranges along with other citrus fruits and exotic fruit like pineapple and papaya which contain digestive enzymes that support your body’s use of the nutrients from the whole foods you eat.

It’s imperative to eat more Raw Foods and whole foods, instead of processed foods, artificial ingredients, or cured meats. Whole Grains, beans, legumes, seaweed, fermented foods, fresh herbs, spices, root vegetables, seeds, and nuts are all great choices for your everyday fare for finding youthfulness returning to your skin, your sagging organs, and your level of energy.

I have NEVER plucked one single eyebrow hair in my entire life and I don’t wear make-up, but my Beloved looks into my beautiful blue eyes and thick lush brows and finds beauty and loving adoration. You don’t have to fake it after 40. You can nourish your body both internally and externally to maintain your appearance and feel like you will live forever.

Dr. Oz talked about saffron. We cook with it. It is expensive, because of the process involved in harvesting the delicate flowers in the field by hand in Spain. Dr. Oz believes the saffron to be a preventive agent against cancer due to the research being done, but those of us who grew up with the Mediterranean diet know how valuable spices and herbs are for our health.

Horseradish is indicated by Dr. Oz to help digestion. He make references to the Gall Bladder and bile which is stimulated when you eat horseradish. Freshly grated horseradish root is the way to go, instead of the glass-jarred stuff that has been on the grocery store shelf for who knows how long… Dr. Oz also mentioned Rosemary as a way to help with allergies and arthritis. While this herb is not the best guard for these health issues, Rosemary can also be used in cooking as long as it is fresh, not dried. You have to know how to cook properly with spices and herbs to get the true health benefits, but you can learn. If you want the easy way out, then use Rosemary as an Essential Oil.

Frontier Natural Products Co-op and AuraCacia Essential Oils

Green herbs and whole foods help to build the Blood. This method of rejuvenation if essential for women of any age after they begin their menstrual cycle during adolescence. Parsley, basil, cilantro, spinach, scallions, chives, thyme, oregano, dark leafy greens, salad greens, and so many other herbs and foods that contain chlorophyll are used by the body to nourish the Blood. Eggs are one of the recommended foods from Dr. Oz, but you can do better with more nutrient-dense sources of protein and minerals.

Spirulina and Blue Green Algae are excellent sources of vitamin B12, chlorophyll, and minerals along with several Chinese herbal formulations that contain rehmannia and other traditional herbs for building the Blood and regulating the endocrine system or the Triple Warmer. The building of energy of the Dan Tien through Tai Chi, Yoga, and other spiritual practices will strengthen your bio-energetic field and empower a women far into her next century when practiced from youth.

Chinese Herbs Direct – Save up to 50% on Chinese herbs, formulas and teas

I wish that I had more time to get into greater depth, but you can visit your local Acupuncturist or Herbalist that has been trained in TCM and be in very good hands. Instead of having a doctor massage your shoulders with lousy technique and using a plunger on your knees, you can get a real professionally-trained Massage Therapist or health care professional trained in Tui Na. They will use herbs, Essential Oils, and even Cupping or Moxibustion to work the magic of regeneration. You’ll be amazed at just how good you can feel after 40!

Martha Stewart and Grilling Secrets of the Master Chefs Makes You Want to Turn On Your Grill Today

June 26th, 2011

You can even get tips about how to safely turn on your new Grill when you watch the Hallmark “Grilling Secrets of the Master Chefs” brought to you by Martha Stewart and her favorite posse of people who know how to grill.

Martha Stewart’s Grilling Secrets of the Master Chefs blog post

I recorded and watched the first annual Grilling show. It was set at Martha’s property which was the perfect place to bring a group of people outdoors to cook and eat together while filming. The kids got to make smores with toasted marshmallows, home-made graham cookies, and melting chocolate with Martha and Emeril. The rest of the chefs who were in attendance all took turns with the food preparations for their respective segments.

I liked the grilling of the produce the best. Beets, radicchio, and potatoes were the stars of the grill. I would eat those beets with the goat cheese dressing sprinkled with chive flowers from Martha’s garden! I loved the potato salad with the apple cider vinegar pickling liquid and the young garlic to season the spuds to perfection. I even liked the idea of using pine nuts and lemon juice to add zest to the grilled radicchio. You can do the same foods in your oven, but there’s something about the added touch of the outside Grill that makes these healthy selections even more delectable.

I would have left out the bread crumbs with the topping that Emeril concocted for his steak. The blue cheese and other ingredients would melt and yet maintain their textural integrity without added panko. The belly of Emeril and others who eat grilled foods don’t need all that bread.

The lobster and other seafood that featured clams, shrimp, and oysters was enlightening. I usually won’t eat seafood unless it comes from pristine waters now that the ocean is so polluted, but when the ease of preparing shellfish on the Grill became obvious…it gave me some ideas.

You can still get sustainable seafood from VitalChoice, especially when you don’t live close to the ocean or a healthy body of water. I would have liked to see Divers Scallops on the Grill, but then I already know how to prepare those delicacies. While Martha did a good job of sourcing local ingredients to grill, most people don’t know much about their local Farmer’s Markets and CSAs. It’s a good idea to explore your area for food finds that bring you fresh produce, fresh seafood, and fresh meats like that chicken on the beer cans. If you can’t, then there are online solutions like VitalChoice.

VitalChoice Sustainable Seafood

Martha supplied plenty of refreshing beverages to beat the heat and many activities for the families while they were waiting for the food to be grilled and served. Even that pig took four hours to prepare to make it succulent… There was plenty of beer for the people and the chicken.

The grilling of peaches with pits that wouldn’t cling to the fruit offered even more ideas for grilling types of foods that usually don’t see the inside of the Weber or Viking equipment. The lemons that accompanied the potatoes made me think that these Chefs have really got a grasp of their cuisine. I hope that next year brings more unique foods to grill like tofu, tempeh, and mochi! That would warm my sweet grilling heart…

With all of the tips and the featured Chef’s restaurants, this show will keep you busy with hankering for more grilled goodies for the rest of the summer and then you’ll have to go indoors to enjoy the establishment’s fine fare in the cities where these Chefs prepare their favorites on the Grill all the time. Personally, I would like to be invited to next year’s Grilling show and I will share my special secrets for the healthier foods that most chefs never learn to grill. I would leave the char behind and bring out the big guns that will bring an even bigger crowd to Martha’s beautiful spread.

While you can enjoy grilling, there’s a lot more to say about eating ‘raw food’ dishes this summer to improve your health. Martha shares some great recipes and ideas at her Whole Living website here:

Martha Stewart’s Whole Living No-Cook Recipes

There are even some sustainable seafood recipes available on this website. Raw Foods are going to be more and more relevant as people learn how valuable they are for bringing about a substantial change in one’s health and Lifestyle. A nice balance of both cooked and raw foods will become the ‘ideal’ for many people in the future.
