TheDoctorsTV and Green: Healthy Greens and Medical Problems with a Green Tinge

March 14th, 2012

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day and the Greening of the Irish, the doctors shared some ‘green’ things in medicine today.

Most of the green things were gross, like baby poop and infections. But finally John Tesh came to talk about healthy green foods like avocado and kale.

TheDoctorsTV and Green

Parsley does more than freshen breath and cleanse the palate. It helps to provide the nutrients that build blood. The green seaweeds are also incredibly useful in building the blood and strengthening the body with minerals as well as chlorophyll. Greens like collards, kale, and chard offer us their nutrients, one of which is calcium.

Avocados were once thought to contain too many lipids (fats) to be healthy, but that error has been corrected. Avocados and nuts have healthy lipids as do oils like olive oil and grapeseed oil. Excess heat alters the oils and so the method of food preparation is important.

Kiwi was the last of the green foods mentioned by John Tesh who is looking as good as ever. I would say that the combination of healthy foods and good music keeps a fellow healthier than a person who eats processed foods and listens to politicians talking like mean green machines.

Dr. Jim knows that the inclusion of food rich in vitamin C help in the absorption of iron from food or supplements. It’s a healthy Lifestyle with an orchestra of whole foods, not isolated vitamins or minerals that make a difference in your health.

But I was surprised to hear Dr. Travis Stork suggest that we put spirulina in our beer to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! I would tell you to never use green food coloring, but spirulina is certainly going to work in this unusual application. You may avoid a wild hangover, too.

I would recommend Vital 18 for getting spirulina into your system. The green is hidden amidst the chocolate brown that is sweet and delicious. Don’t discount other green foods like edamame, cucumbers, and green peppers. You can get the harmonics of ‘green’ with sound when you sing or listen to frequencies designed for healing. Last, but not least, you can wear green clothing to resonate with the vibratory rates of color and gain some healthy benefits.

Dr. Oz and Worry-Free Supplements and Health Items For Exhaustion

March 13th, 2012

Dr. Oz talked about Worry and Stress today. He offered some ideas for natural supplements and health products to combat this state of constant worry, anxiety, and exhaustion.

When you live on the ‘Third Rock from the Sun’, it takes more than chicken to keep your body on its orbital path. if you have an ulcer, aloe vera gel, miso soup, myrrh, and other soothing healthy products will repair the damaged tissue; but you have to change your lifestyle as the doctor mentioned.

Minerals are more important than vitamins and amino acids when it comes to exhaustion; but then it’s entirely possible that you need more of all the kinds of nutrients, including the vitamin-rich foods that were pointed out by the guest on Dr. Oz.

The inclusion of whole grains, not tortillas, is the way to go. A taco made like the ‘expert’ suggested is not enough to provide the nutrients to stop that worry and anxiety. While her advice is good, it’s just the beginning of restoring your energy systems. Fifteen minutes of Tai Chi will do more for you than one taco… One acupuncture treatment is worth a week of tacos. But wait, there’s so much more to tell you!

This is not a Hot List, even though Dr. Oz thinks it represents what’s hot and trending… I see it as somewhat Lukewarm, yet reasonable for beginners.

Dr. Oz and Worry-Free Health Products Hot List For Exhaustion

If you are exhausted, it is rather likely that you need something more than these four products to replenish your energy. But Dr. Oz mentioned these, so we’ll start by discussing them.

First of all, liquid B12 and B Complex vitamins are better absorbed than tablets. But the sub-lingual B12 supplements are even better, because they are absorbed beneath the tongue and enter your bloodstream more rapidly.

Of, course, you can eat whole grains, nuts, and other whole foods that are rich in B vitamins – even spirulina and seaweed will give your body an abundant supply of these nutrients which nourish the nervous system and endocrine system.

Next let’s talk “Luna Bars”. We have loved these healthy bars that are made by women for people who value a healthy and tasty snack bar for a very long time. Our favorite flavor was lemon with a delicious coating that was as good as any lemon meringue pie.

Luna Bars continue to be enjoyed by those who want to nibble and graze. But unlike Dr. Oz with his warning about a sugar high, we have never found that to be an issue with Luna Bars. Perhaps Dr. Oz and his staff are thinking about a different snack bar!

I have not used the iPosture item for reminding a person to maintain a good posture by using a gadget. Do you really lose touch with your body and how you are carrying yourself to require a gadget? I suppose it’s OK for those who like the buzzing of the reminder to stimulate them to action.

I think that a Latte has no place on this List, but Dr. Oz seems to sanction cheating and gives people permission to continue with their habits. Milk or cream from dairy sources that have been tampered with are not healthy. If you can use the So Delicious Coconut Creamer that was demonstrated on his show yesterday, and combine that with organic coffee; you will be OK. How can Dr. Oz forget about one of his recommendations in one day’s time?

A bottle of Brain Toniq will do infinitely more for you than a Latte. You have to learn to feed the brain and energy systems of the body, instead of relying upon over-stimulating them all the time with coffee. You can order a case or more of Brain Toniq online anytime and it will be delivered to your door. you can find it in Whole Foods Markets and other natural food stores as well.

BRAIN TONIQ Information

At the end of the day, you want to use healthy products temporarily until you have replenished the Chi that you’ve exhausted with herbal formulas and Essential Oils and Whole Foods. We’ve had enough of the gimmicks that Dr. Oz force-feeds his audiences daily and we want you to be smarter than the average person.

Chinese Herbs Direct – The Internet’s Largest Source for Chinese Herbs

Anxiety, stress, worry, and mental chatter deplete the Earth Element which rules the energetic systems of the Spleen meridian and until the bio-energetic field and the physical body are fully replenished; you will find it difficult to stop the internal traffic of these emotions and reactions to daily life. Four fixes are not enough… You must be diligent in your adaptation of a healthier Lifestyle to bring about lasting change.

Lemon juice, ginger, and honey are fine; but insufficient for deep exhaustion. Bergamot and other Essential Oils, especially blends have been used for centuries to stop the ‘busy mind’. While Dr. Oz and his guest experts open the doors, you need to see a professional yourself to know exactly which healthy products are appropriate for you to live in a house filled with vibrant energy.

Dr. Oz Promotes Healthy Flavor Boosters Today!

March 12th, 2012

It was nothing new for us, we’ve told you about these healthy ingredients before and have used them ourselves to enhance the flavor profile of dishes.

But it was a first for Dr. Oz to mention these flavor boosting foods. Finally, he is beginning to wake up to what health is…

Dr. Oz and Healthy Flavor Boosters

He and his expert guest talked about So Delicious Coconut Creamer to replace cream. So Delicious makes coconut yogurt, coconut milk, healthy ice creams, and many other fine foods.

Then Amore tomato paste was demonstrated as a substitute for ketchup. Amore carries many delightful pastes for adding flavor to foods that grace the Italian table and belong on yours. There are healthy organic brands of ketchup in Whole Foods Markets, too.

As a replacement for butter, the suggestion was roasted garlic that can be spread on bread or used in any recipe. All it takes is about 45 minutes in the oven after you have cut the top off the bulb of garlic and poured a little organic olive oil and sea salt on top of the garlic cloves.

Salad dressing can be swapped out with miso paste blended with lemon juice and vinegar. we like to add some toasted sesame oil or grapeseed oil. We add mustard on occasion, too.

Spices and herbs are flavor enhancers that go far beyond boosting flavor by providing nutrients.

Marcus is from the FoodNetwork and showed Dr. Oz how to prepare noodles with spices, herbs, aromatics, and other healthy ingredients to season the noodles , instead of the flavor packet with MSG that you need to throw away. Finally, we get to have real chefs offer ways to make foods healthy and taste great. Good work, staff and production crew!

Eat well and BE WELL!

TheDoctorsTV and Side Effects of Common Drugs: Is It Worth The Risk?

March 12th, 2012

One of the most honest and revealing episodes about pharmaceuticals and the health risks of side-effects deserves honorable mention today.

It’s not often that doctors will disclose the inherent dangers of taking common drugs. They would like to pretend that the side effects are reasonable when the drug can do what needs to be done for the patient. However, some drugs don’t work very well and the side effects are worse than expected. It’s a line in the sand that doctors cross all the time and disregard the boundaries of “first do no harm”.

TheDoctorsTV and Drug Side Effects

When I read the PDR or watch the disclaimers on the commercials on TV that reel off the side effects with no emotion; I am so satisfied that I do not rely upon drugs for resolving any malady.

Drugs are the primary arsenal in the black bag for any doctor. They have to find a way to live with the pesky problem of dangerous side effects. This means they need to find a way to justify the use of the drug despite the risks of side effects or the times when a drug isn’t enough. It’s their business.

I cannot tell anyone if the risk is worth it. I can only hope that a person would seek out alternatives to harsh drugs before taking an unnecessary risk. The individual is ultimately the one who is responsible for making this type of decision. They have to live in that body of theirs.

The Girl Scouts Celebrate 100 Years: Teach a Girl to Bake Healthy Cookies

March 12th, 2012

I won’t be buying any cookies from the Girl Scouts – they are not healthy enough for my tastes!

However, I am willing to teach a girl to bake healthy cookies. I was a great Girl Scout myself – back in the day.

Even all those years ago, boxed cookies paled in comparison to freshly-baked cookies coming right out of the oven. I learned to bake as a member of 4-H and with my mother and sitters who loved to work their magic in the kitchen.

The Chew and Local Favorites

The Chew featured a cookie recipe demonstrated by Daphne Oz in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts today. Cupcake Wars had a similar theme and celebration last night.

Get the best raw ingredients from this trusted online source for healthy cookies:

Bake the cookies yourself with a Girl Scout or any young lady who values wellness and good cookies that go hand-in-hand with building Community. This is a skill that will be welcome their entire lives!

USDA Tries to Defend Pink Slime in School Lunch Programs: We Aren’t Buying It!

March 11th, 2012

Parents of school age children and grandchildren and health advocates are NOT going to let our young people consume meat byproducts like Pink Slime. We are NOT buying this snow job, no matter what the USDA says about it. Pink Slime is not fit for human consumption and our kids are human!

USDA Defends Pink Slime Use in School Lunch Programs

When ‘push comes to shove’ this thing is going to blow up in the face of the USDA. They will lose all credibility and we won’t trust them ever again.

What’s more… We’ll start taking our kids out of public schools and they will lose their tax base. Our smart kids will go to private schools. Public schools will become wastelands where foolish kids go to get poisoned, shot, raped, drugged, and indoctrinated into the lies of government agencies.

Eventually all of the decent and intelligent teachers and administrators will leave the public school system and move over to the private schools that provide healthy food for healthy minds and bodies.

The federal government will dismantle the USDA and the corrupt employees will be unemployable and disgraced.

We are taking a firm stand on this issue!

Petition to Change the USDA Policy Has More Than 192,435 Signatures

Let’s face it, we have the power to make changes where they are most needed, such is the case with McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King who have already listened to reason. When an entire nation like the UK bans Pink Slime, does the USDA actually think that we are going to accept the agency’s flimsy excuses? Hell, no!

Sign the Petition Here and Read More About the Reasons Why People are Petitioning the USDA:

Change.org Petition – Sign it Now!

TheLunchTray Petition Discussion and Blog Information

The USDA cannot force us to feed our children inferior meat byproducts. The USDA cannot force us to consume any substance that has become toxic from exposure to an ammonia derivative. It’s not happening in this country. We don’t have to fight the USDA, we are just going to go around you and your corruption. The USDA and manufacturers of Pink Slime will go the way of the lemmings…

We determine what food we buy and what food our children consume. Once we learn what you scoundrels are doing, we take action and get vocal. That’s what we did with dolphins being killed needlessly in driftnets decades ago. That’s what we’ve done with organic certification by trusted organizations like Oregon Tilth when the USDA let us down. That’s what we’ve done with other government agencies until there was reform and revision of the laws and policies. The USDA is not beyond the reach of public outcry and they are not above the law!

The Healthy Alternative to Pink Slime Meat Products

March 10th, 2012

It’s bound to be on your mind after all of the media coverage surrounding that disgusting Pink Slime.

It’s obvious that intelligent people will not want to consume meat products that have been contaminated by Pink Slime being added as a filler. Regardless of whether the deplorable employees at the USDA think that it is fit for human consumption, there are many of us who would not touch it if we were starving!

So what is your alternative to pink-slimed meats?

Free Range grass-fed beef that is sustainably raised and humanely butchered is the short and simple answer. You can find it in Whole Foods Markets, many local Food Co-ops, CSAs, and a few select online vendors.

Free Range Meat Niman Ranch

The vendors for exotic meats, Fossil Farms, carries many alternatives that you will find enticing and delicious.

Exotic Meats and Game from Fossil Farms

It is ideal to purchase your meat from reliable vendors and stores that actually care about the health and long-term relationships with their customers. Most big box chains have no such personal interest nor commitment to quality control and customer satisfaction.

You will find many companies who are producing meat products from beef to pork to turkey and even exotic meats which are steadfast in their policies and practices to ensure the highest quality of food for their customers.

Know your Butcher!

Know your Rancher!

Know your Brands and eat only the best of the best.

The problem with pink slime is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to assessing the quality of meat sold to the public. Long ago we discovered many horrific things that people in the food chain are willing to do to cut costs and extend their meat products.

It’s beyond belief that regulators either look the other way or are part of the corruption in the meat industry. I suppose that this is one of the reasons so many individuals decided decades ago to do things differently and formed their own systems.

You cannot afford to blindly trust the stores, producers, and industry insiders who are more interested in profit than in health and reputation.

Fortunately, there are many more companies who have integrity and health at the front of their minds when producing or distributing a quality meat product. Consumers DO have a clear choice.

It might require you to shop at different stores like Whole Foods or find CSAs in your local area; but it is well worth the effort. Anything less puts your health at risk!

Dr. Oz and The Used Vehicle Salesmen Are at It Again: Selling Women on the Birth Control Pill

March 9th, 2012

I am disgusted when doctors behave more like used car salesmen than healers. The human body is much more than a used vehicle. Physicians should be more than drug dealers trying to sell people on pills.

But Dr. Oz and his cohorts are at it again! Now they are pushing birth control pills as a way to prevent cancer. Shocking, but that’s what happened today!

As if it’s not dangerous enough to take the birth control pill to prevent unwanted pregnancies; now these medical experts insist that taking the pill when women are over 40 will ‘prevent’ cancer.

Dr. Oz and Birth Control Pills Used for Women After 40

I say, “This is BS”. I cannot more vehemently disagree with this application of a drug.

There are safer, more effective ways to prevent cancer! No woman needs to take birth control pill for this reason. To do so places them at risk for side-effects and there’s absolutely no guarantee that this drug will really protect a woman from certain types of cancer…there are only statistics and doctors with nothing better up their sleeves.

When a doctor begins to play around with hormones, it spells trouble. They just don’t know enough to do it well for each patient. This is when the patient becomes the guinea pig for experimentation without the proper care and feeding of the animal by its keeper…

This is not the way to practice medicine! it is repugnant. I would never put myself or my daughters in this position when it presents such an unnecessary risk.

I would think that women over the age of 40 would be smart enough to seek out the professional assistance of true Healers who know how to keep a human body well, instead of only managing diseases with drugs or surgery. There are plenty of responsible health care professionals who will be accountable and guide you through the jungle of healthy Lifestyle choices and ways to maintain Wellness. This is the key to prevention of disease. You work with those whose attention is squarely based upon Wellness.

Doctors are versed in disease management, that is NOT prevention. Do not let them twist your mind to confuse the issues. They see your body as a vehicle with spare parts that can be refitted with new parts, drugs, or surgical procedures. I cannot agree with this perspective of turning your vibrant physical body into a machine.

Wellness comes when a person lives a healthy Lifestyle every day in body, mind, and spirit. it’s a dynamic process, not a study in pharmaceutical statistical significance. Let’s draw a clear line in the sand here.

Dr. Oz and Inexpensive Healthy Food Ideas

March 8th, 2012

Dr. Oz seemed surprised that many healthy foods are not expensive.

His expert guest provided a few of these examples:

Pink Salmon in a can
Aduki Beans in a can
Black Rice
Daikon

Dr. Oz and Healthy Foods that Cost Less Than You Think

Whole Grains, beans, legumes, and many fresh vegetables and fruits are fairly priced from the growers, vendors, and distributors who value thrifty business practices, because they actually have ethics and mores that are healthy, instead of greedy or opportunistic. It’s a win-win-win situation for all of us changing the paradigm.

It will cost even less when bought in bulk. You can also compare prices at large grocers, coops, and farmer’s markets or CSAs.

Organic and natural foods don’t have to be expensive. If you look, you will find…

You can even form a Buying Club and order in bulk at wholesale prices to share the savings with a group of like-minded people. We began to do this in the 1970s. The distributors have minimums, but they will accommodate groups according to their policies that have been in place for years.

Dr. Oz went on to warn against food scams. Common sense usually dictates the easy way to avoid all the charlatans who try to rip you off. The female guest expert suggested to buy organic when possible…and it is usually always possible these days!

Just take the time to look, learn, and find those healthy food sources that want you to be a regular customer, because they have earned your trust and business.

Seven Million Pounds of Poisonous Pink Slime Bound for Our Nation’s Schools

March 8th, 2012

It’s gross and no one in their right mind would allow our children to consume ‘pink slime’ as a meat product in the school system or anywhere else for that matter.

But that kind of reason doesn’t stop the USDA and the federal government from shipping seven million pounds to schools. They just hope you don’t notice…

Jamie Oliver is speaking out on behalf of our youth as are other celebrities and health proponents who want to put an end to these practices. If we protest loudly and long enough, the public will respond and change will happen.

Seven Million Pounds of Pink Slime Going to Schools

It is outrageous that this is happening. It’s bad enough to trust that our children are safe in public schools where shootings, bullying, and sexual predators are constantly putting our students in peril. Now we have to worry about the quality of all the food served in school cafeterias. If I had school-age children, I would refuse to let them go to public schools.

Let’s keep this issue of Pink Slime in front of the authorities until they listen to reason and stop selling it or labeling it as ‘meat’. Only fools would eat something that contains Pink Slime!

Even Diane Sawyer on ABC’s World News reported on Pink Slime:
