TheDoctorsTV and the Skinny on the Trends for 2011
We’ve always been ahead of the typical annual health trends, but it is fun to comment on what doctors think about the latest and the new stuff that begins to get more attention.
This was an entertaining episode of TheDoctorsTV for their new season of fresh content. The funny physicians who will actually demo the gizmos make me laugh out loud.

TheDoctorsTV 2011 Trends – Products
It was KIND of the snack company to share their healthy snacks with the doctors and the audience. Let’s hope that healthy snacks with fruit and nuts and whole grains becomes the tradition and isn’t just a trend. It is in my home…
Dr. Drew had quite a challenge staying on his feet in the sphere, especially with the streets of Kiev throwing him off his usual tailored balance with the goggles. But that’s the point of the sphere…to help you improve your sense of balance and your motor cues while you walk to get some movement while you are training your brain. I want one of these spheres! I climbed in something comparable when I was a child, but my mom had no idea where there would be room for it in our backyard or else I would have gotten it for Christmas THAT year. I’m not too old to play within a wired sphere…
The trampoline segment was more of a revisitation of an old theme, since we have been jumping on the tramp and using rebounders for fifty years. The safety tips were fine, but there needed to be more emphasis upon the value of rebounding for the stimulation of the circulation of the lymphatic system. That…after all…is one of the biggest health issues that lethargic and sick people find that they need help with – ways to strengthen their Immune System and have an easy method to enjoy a little movement when most exercise regimens are beyond their ability.
The bug bite gizmo appears to be helpful with bee stings, mosquito bites, fleas, and other tiny critters that sting when they pounce upon the human body while we are out in the wilderness or on the beach. BUT…you have to take this device with you, so you have it to use immediately for best results. This item would be good to have while you are golfing, floating the river, or out on the lake during the summer when being dive-bombed by all the fliers…
I would actually use the bouncing chair to burn off a few additional calories while sitting….if only it would work in front of my computer! This contraption belongs on your porch for times that you are sitting outside watching the kids play or the world pass by…
I happen to love hammocks, swings, and some of the more sophisticated seats that freely move in space, so this new one is a nice variation on a theme. It looks like it is built to last, solid and sturdy, yet capable of moving with little effort which would even allow obese teens to do something healthy for themselves.
If you’ve been following our Blog, you will know that we told you about sun protective clothing for kids last year, but it should become a trend with the increase of solar activity and the environmental damage to our atmosphere which continues to be altered and expose sun worshippers to rays that can burn and damage sensitive skin. The kids that wear this protective clothing are lucky to have caretakers who would go this extra mile for their health and comfort.
I think the Healthy Spa trends are more common than the doctors realize. All the top Spas and Salons have been advocates of chocolate, natural substances like bentonite clay for detoxification, and nutrient-rich foods used externally and internally to improve the skin, bring about a more youthful appearance, and reverse the aging process. This trend is more of a tradition…
I am NOT a fan of extreme exercise, but Dr. Travis kept up with the pros and impressed me with his prowess. You should really warm up your body before doing these moves and ease into the intensity of this approach. It’s good to see that the system has gradation for different levels built into it with forethought. If you do happen to strain your muscles; then grab some of those pink and purple booties that Dr. Lisa commented upon. Get the right size and send Dr. Travis a pair that fits! It’s going to be even more relaxing and comforting if you use some Essential Oils while you wear the booties. If your discomfort continues, then go and get a Foot Reflexologist to soothe your foot pain or attend to it by finding a good Massage Therapist who specializes in pain in the extremities.
You know what, that little Medicine Chest with the lock system is a good idea, but if someone really wanted to break into it, they could. Parents – keep your medications out of reach of your children anyway. And if you feel that you have to protect your prescriptions with a lock box; then you need to assess the security in your home or office.
The major problem with this lock box is that if you take a medicine that brings you back from a condition where you might die unless you have your drug, then someone else couldn’t help you if you were to fall, be knocked out, have a seizure, or be incapacitated in some way…so you need to have another fail-safe method for allowing another intelligent adult to be able to administer that type of drug in case of an emergency.
Personally, I don’t think that the Snake Massage will ever become more than a fascinating adventurous experience for a few brave and unfettered people who have no innate fear of slithering snakes. I used to love to carry little water snakes around when I was a kid growing up on a river. I loved the way their bodies would conform to my hands, my arms, and any surface. But all things considered, I will continue to admire my reptilian buddies in their natural habitat while allowing a professional set of Massage Therapy hands work their magic on my body.
I like all the great Apps for everything imaginable, so even the Face Lift imaging one will be useful to someone thinking about going under the knife.
I would like to see the trend for good posture with the Verte Chair become standard fare in schools, offices, and homes. I would encourage anyone who travels, goes camping, or attends Retreats in the great Outdoors to take one of these portable potties with privacy tent along with them. We’ve been using porta-potties and camping equipment like this for a long time.
I cannot say that the trend toward hip replacement will ever get the ‘thumbs-up’ from me. I have witnessed too many people who have regenerated their bones, tendons, ligaments, and musculature to give any approval to surgical substitution. Although progress has been made to improve the outcome, there’s lag-time for many patients who don’t get quality care yet.
