TheDoctorsTV and Monday Mornings: Hazards to Your Health
It’s Monday Morning and it’s time to get back into the Rat Race!
Your alarm clock blasted you out of bed this morning. You probably skipped breakfast, because you were dragging your feet to get out of bed and dressed for the first day back at work. You are most likely stressed for any number of reasons as your week begins and you have to get back in the swing of things after a more leisurely weekend. But then, the symptoms begin… How’s your heart?
The doctors are going to tell you that many heart attacks happen on Monday Mornings. It’s a statistic that confounds doctors. They have to admit that it’s more related to Lifestyle choices than any other determining factor. Monday is the day you go back to work and it takes a toll on the human body, especially the function of the heart.
What can you do to make some simple changes in your Lifestyle and behavior to avoid becoming a statistic?
You can plan for your Monday on Sunday. Get your clothing for work ready in advance. Prepare some advance breakfast foods. Go to bed early, so you get plenty of sleep and wake up feeling refreshed before the alarm clock pulls you from your dreams.
You can eat a lighter meal on Sunday evening and be certain that it doesn’t include saturated fats, too much sugar, or too much salt. If you watched a sporting event and consumed too much beer, pizza, chips, popcorn, or soda; then eat a good meal and drink plenty of water. You can take an extra dosage of vitamins and minerals to support your digestive system, if you consumed too much of anything.
See if you can wake up gently on Monday Morning. Your quality and quantity of sleep often determines how well your body can initiate movement when called upon to rejoin that Rat Race when you would prefer another day to make a long weekend. Stretch and take a few minutes to enjoy some deep breaths before you leap into this new week. This might serve to prevent your heart from resisting the urgency of time constraints on the morning that begins the rush to work, the mad race to get the kids to school on time, or the frantic last minute activities that you left to the last possible moment.
Don’t leave the house without a good healthy Smoothie, fresh organic fruit, or a solid breakfast. The body needs fuel to operate on Mondays!
Plan your Monday and the entire week in advance as much as possible, so you don’t get caught with your pants down when it comes to projects for the office, the demands of kids in school projects, or the spouse’s needs that you did not anticipate. You can build all of these things into your Lifestyle with communication and planning.
Play some classical music on Monday Mornings. Play a nice subliminal audio tape to refresh your body, mind, and spirit. Be good to yourself as you start your new week!
You are in control. Your heart will be stronger when you choose each intentional action, every breath, every movement, and enter Monday as a conscious thoughtful person…not a crazed rat in a maze!
