TheDoctorsTV and Healthy Halloween Ideas: The Dark Side of Chocolate – Screen Your Goodies and Go Green with Fair Trade Chocolate

This isn’t your typical Halloween, this is the fourth year in a row that we have asked you to contribute to the education of both children and adults when it comes to Fair Trade Chocolate treats. You can play a trick on the nefarious practices that need to be changed in the cocoa industry by bringing attention to the problems that befall children, so that companies take responsibility for labor practices in other countries.

There is an active movement afoot that culminates on Halloween by reverse Trick or Treating at the homes of caring parents who want the best for children around the world. It is not commonly known that there are serious abusive labor practices in cocoa-producing countries which force children into labor and abuse these young workers. It’s time to put a stop to these practices and the way we are doing so is to raise awareness with the reverse Trick or Treating campaigns around America and in Canada.

When your children go out to collect their Halloween candy, they deliver a Fair Trade Chocolate and information to the parents who give out candy to kids. This makes the poignant effort to illuminate parents about the real issues that deserve attention when choosing which chocolate to buy for kids. Hersheys and other traditional chocolate companies have turned a blind eye toward this problem facing children in other countries for too long. It’s time to encourage all of our intelligent parents and consumers of chocolate to ONLY buy Fair Trade chocolate. This appears to be the best method for ending abusive child labor practices.

Global Exchange Action Center

The idea is to hand out Fair Trade Chocolate with the message about these issues and what we can do about them. You can participate this year by ordering a Kit that includes all of the goodies to hand out during Halloween.

Children should be able to feel good about these fun holidays by eating and distributing healthy chocolate that is derived using Fair Trade practices. Then we can deal with the dark side of the chocolate industry, just as we have collectively addressed other issues in the past from drift net dolphins and the complexities in the coffee trade among many others. Please help our children leave a legacy of hope and responsibility when they actively participate in Halloween and the distribution of chocolate for fun and profit.

This makes all of us take a personal interest in protecting the environment, supporting a healthy chocolate industry, and making sure that Fair Trade practices are utilized in countries around the world where we bring many raw materials for the foods and treats we all want to enjoy. You make a difference – this Halloween and every day in the future.

Order your Fair Trade Halloween Chocolate Kit by October 13th and help us raise awareness about relevant issues while our kids have a great time on Halloween. Spread the word and show the video in your home. Get involved and help to bring about improvements in conditions around the world for the betterment of mankind.

Happy and healthy Halloween chocolates are just too delicious to ignore!
