TheDoctorsTV and Fall Health Tips and Ideas for Staying Well

The doctors had many excellent ideas for their audience about the ways they can stay strong, well, and healthy during the Fall season. It’s that time of year when the weather changes, kids go back to school, and the holidays begin to push many schedules to their limit.

The doctors, especially Dr. Travis are looking forward to Halloween. It’s a time when kids have been conditioned to expect tons of candy when they don a great costume and go house to house to gather their treats or attend a party with all the illustrious decorations that Martha Stewart can muster in the craft department. This year there will be a trend toward healthy treats like the organic chocolate candy that many companies promote to share with the neighborhood kids, rather than the artificial colored sugar items that pass for sweets. Please encourage your school teachers, your parents, and your children to arrange for healthy treats this year.

You can have more fun bobbing for apples, making caramel apples, and apple cider in our state than you typically have in the city where kids are worried about razor blades in their fresh fruit. The time to go back to eating our fresh harvest during this time of the year is at hand. The hand that carves the pumpkins can be the hand of change, so our children don’t suffer from eating too much sugar and other artificial ingredients that should be banned. You can roast the pumpkin seeds after carving the jackolantern and spritz them with tamari for a salty snack. You can make some delicious pumpkin soup with ginger root and garlic cloves, cinnamon, clove, and sea salt.

The pumpkin puree that Dr. Drew used for skin care may be better when eaten than applied to the exterior of the body. Squash, pumpkin, root vegetables like yams and sweet potatoes make excellent roasted vegetable dishes when you use olive oil and spices in the oven. The whole house smells great and makes you hungry for what awaits you from the garden harvest. One of my favorite dishes with pumpkin is to make a filling for tortellini or ravioli with a rich creamy sauce. My mouth is watering…

The garden and field harvest gives you the opportunity to try fruits and vegetables that you wouldn’t ordinarily enjoy in many grocery stores. The varieties and the specialties that you can find at your Farmer’s Markets when you follow Dr. Travis on his bike to will give you more color, more nutrients, and more strength than the canned or frozen counterparts. There’s nothing quite as good as fresh food direct from the growers to your table. Make a point of supporting your local growers and you’ll all benefit by staying strong and healthy during the Fall.

Kids go back to school and they are exposed to dozens of pathogens when the schools don’t take good care of the classrooms and the buildings. Arm your students with sanitizing wipes for the surfaces they come into contact with like desks, door handles, and equipment. We favor the Seventh Generation Wipes. Teach your children to do more than simply wash their hands and educate them about exposure to pathogens with ways to prevent direct contact without protection. Besides cleaning the backpack, teach your kids to appreciate good hygiene. You can put several drops of certain Essential Oils on their wrists before they leave for school in the morning and when they return home at the end of the day.

If you give your children a glass of purified water with three drops of Nutri-Biotic mixed well, the chances of their getting a cold or the flu will be reduced to a huge extent. You can give your children a fresh organic juice Smoothie in the morning, so you know that they have the nutrients to get through the day until lunch. Make sure that they eat their citrus fruits and use lemons, limes, and oranges to flavor sauces, dressings, and water. Use that zest! Send the kids to school with raisins, dates, nuts, seeds, and as much fresh food as you can put into a lunchbox to encourage them to eat well to stay strong during the Fall. With the changes in the weather that often opens the door to the sniffles; it’s a good idea to bolster the immune system with whole foods, herbs, and teas. Your children will love a cup of hot apple cider spiced with cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg on cool Fall evenings and crispy cool mornings.

Dress in layers and use wool, organic cotton, bamboo, and natural fabrics for your clothing. This is the time for a nice pair of gloves, a comfortable hat, and a couple of wonderful sweaters to keep the chill from altering the body’s bio-energetic field. My favorite healthy idea is to go out and chop some wood, bring it into the house as a family, and build a fire to warm one another while passing around a hot cup of chai. Fall is a time for family to be outdoors and indoors together to spend time enjoying one another’s company as the holidays approach and we feel gratitude for the love and support of our family bonds.

Fall is another season when we enjoy the bounty of the harvest from our great Mother Earth while getting together with family and friends over a great meal of whole healthy foods to share stories and find the treasures that this Good Life gives us!
