TheDoctorsTV and Dr. Travis Stork: The Doctor is In and He’s in Hot Water

Dr. Travis Stork was promoting his new book on this repeat episode of TheDoctorsTV and he did actually say that the best way to reach and maintain your ideal weight is through Lifestyle, not dieting. That was refreshingly honest! It’s true…dieting doesn’t work; only a permanent healthy Lifestyle change will get you to and keep you at your ideal weight and tone.

The obese woman that Dr. Travis was attempting to counsel was not impressed with his recommendation to adopt the Mediterranean Diet. I seriously doubt that she would know what to do with the beans, legumes, and whole grains; let alone how to shop to purchase the nuts, seeds, dark leafy greens, fresh fish, spices, and herbs that comprise the healthy aspects of this region. She and her husband admitted that they eat take-out food most of the time when they get off work on their way home. Does she cook? Can she learn? Is she willing to make the Lifestyle changes needed to alter the decisions which have made her obese and tired? That remains to be seen…

The Doctor was IN the ballpark when he showed this overweight woman an Amy’s Burger. I hope that she has two minutes to make a healthy berry Smoothie in the morning before she leaves for work. If her husband doesn’t enter into this process of change with her, she is unlikely to follow the nutritionist’s advice for long. She doesn’t appear to me to be the type of person who possesses much self-control. She said that she doesn’t like fried foods, but all that Chinese take-out is deep fried and then loaded with sauce. Who is she kidding? I wonder when the last time she had a vegetable or a piece of fresh fruit was! Good Luck…

Dr. Travis did make some good points which are explained in detail in his book. The doctors are in hot water! They are setting a good example when they take some time to soak in a hot tub. Hydrotherapy is well-known in many cultures to be an excellent treatment for improving one’s health. We have turned it into entertainment in this country, although there are some Spas and Resorts that offer color therapy in their tubs and other methods for Hydrotherapy.

I loved the Auricular Therapy and Dr. Travis making a reference to Acupuncture. It does tickle me that he thinks of Acupuncture as an ‘alternative’ therapy; when it has been instrumental in keeping billions of people in the world healthy for much longer than Traditional Western Medicine. Chinese Traditional Medicine enjoys a stronger and more solid reputation around the world than does Western Medicine…just in case our Western physicians don’t realize this to be the case. Dr. Jim also suggested Chiropractic care which is already very established for those of us in the holistic field. Leave it to the ‘western’ mind to have to call it ‘complementary’ or ‘integrated’ medicine… At least the Doctors honored these modalities by telling their audience that they embraced them in their own lives!

One last thing…if you regularly eat take-out food, because you’re too busy to cook in your own kitchen or you simply don’t have the skills; then find healthy restaurants in your local area and shop in the Deli at a Whole Foods Market. You can do this!
