TheDoctorsTV and Dr. Oz in the Kitchen: Smoothies for Longevity, Smoothies for Healing, and Smoothies for the Other White Milks
OK…we are taking the DoctorsTV physicians and Dr. Oz back into the kitchen where they are learning how the foods and beverages that they discuss on their TV shows can contribute to your healthy Lifestyle.
Doctors on TV and in their clinical practices or research labs rarely have much time to spend cooking and preparing healthy drinks in their kitchens at home or at the office. So we thought we would share a few ideas for Smoothies that the doctors have featured on TV segments that you can make quickly and effortlessly in your own kitchen…perhaps while watching Dr. Oz on your kitchen TV.
If you are short on time and fresh organic produce; then you can use these flavor extracts to provide your favorite flavor enhancements to your Smoothies. Orange, mango, pineapple, maple, raspberry, strawberry, rose, grape, coconut, key lime, cranberry, ginger, cherry, blackberry, and even chocolate extracts are good substitutes for the real thing in a pinch. Our Olive Nation affiliate offers some of the finest and best tasting extracts you’ll find:
If you want to go with flavor and fiber; then a quick choice is frozen organic fruit. Cascadia Farms and O from Safeway have frozen berries that can be put into the blender with a banana, some apple or orange juice, and any kind of tropical fruit that you are in the mood for…from mango to papaya to pineapple to guava to figs to lychee. You can also use coconut milk and other juices as a base for your Smoothies. It takes all of three minutes to pour the juice, add some frozen berries, peel the banana, and pluck some fresh fruit from the fruit bowl and push BLEND for one minute. Within five minutes of thinking ‘SMOOTHIE’, you can be sipping a cold refreshing drink that’s healthy and full of nutrients and enzymes.
I don’t recommend canned fruit, but if you do need to rotate the Food Storage cans of fruit; then cherries, apricots, pears, peaches, or pineapple are good choices for a fast frenzied Smoothie when you are in a rush to get out the door to work or that baseball game. If you put up your own fruit; then this is a perfect time to enjoy the goodness of the harvest from your garden or your Farmer’s Market when the fruit was canned at the peak of ripeness.
Speaking of ripeness, it’s a great use for a very ripe avocado to go into a Smoothie before blemishes ruin it for presentation or it becomes too mushy for guacamole or sandwich slices. Dr. Oz featured his Avocado Smoothie and it is a popular blend that will nourish your skin and many vital organs and system. Don’t forget to include a pinch of sea salt to bring out the flavor and the alchemy for that avocado! If you have ever wanted to make a raw food Smoothie; then use a couple of avocados with some raw chocolate to make a Bliss Smoothie that even David Wolfe would love to share with you over a good conversation about healthy foods for your endocrine system and your brain.
We do not use cow’s milk for Smoothies or any other purpose. We replace that white milk with the other whilte milks. Coconut Milk, Rice Milk, Cashew Milk, and Soy Milk are excellent choices for the smart individual who wants to eliminate cow’s milk from the diet. Goat Milk is usually alright, although the taste is going to vary depending upon the diet of the goat!
