The Today Show and the Distinction Between Soy Milk and Skim Milk

The Today Show had a segment about the distinction between soy milk and skim milk when their expert answered a question from a caller about changing from cow’s milk to the soy beverage.

While the expert primarily compared the two beverages with a calorie count and basic minerals; she failed to discuss the difference of the lipids.

She did mention the taste and suggested that people could choose either milk. I did not feel that she did the topic justice.

She seemed to forget that many people have a food sensitivity to cow’s milk and then there are those who are sensitive to soy products, too. That needs to be taken into consideration.

Furthermore, you can add vanilla extract or other natural flavoring extracts like almond to the soy milk to suit your taste. Soy milk now comes in plain, vanilla, and chocolate. Many companies make soy milk and most of them taste better than ever before…

The homogenized cow’s milk is still going to cause a problem in your blood with fat globules that are responsible for contributing to the creation of plaque in your arteries. Fatty metabolism for cow’s milk is more demanding upon the body than is soy milk. The lipids in soy milk and other soy products actually help to modulate fatty metabolism and balance the endocrine system. That’s a plus for soy milk.

You should get organic soy milk that is sweetened with pure organic cane sugar. You can use it in cooking, in Smoothies, in cereal, granola, and for sauces, and dips. It is just as versatile as any other milk.

I am not a proponent of cow’s milk these days. You cannot convince me that the prions that are at the heart of the Mad Cow scenario are not present in most herds. We are even finding them in wild animals like squirrels, deer, elk, and antelope. Not at all appealing to someone who values a healthy Lifestyle of whole foods and natural beverages…
