The First New Episode of Dr. Oz for The New Season: How Does the Doctor Do When We Examine Him?

Dr. Oz begins his brand new season with the first episode today. Let’s discuss how our examination of Dr. Oz reveals what he knows about the topics he shares with his audience.

Doctor Oz: The New 2011 Season

Doctor Oz is back and in full swing, bringing his audience information about medicine, health, and subjects that are pertinent to our cultural interests which physicians would like to think they understand. Doctors even think they can dance…

He starts the season with a discussion about Belly Fat and Superfoods. This is what he believes you are interested in this year. Given that obesity and weight management are constantly in the News, it seems that this topic is timely and significant.

The Target of the Day: Women Over 40 with Belly Fat and Low Self-Esteem

Are you the type to tone your belly with exercise? Not many are willing to do the daily routine that it takes to trim down the waist and shape the belly by reducing the belly fat that surrounds this tissue and the vital organs.

Dr. Oz thinks that you should ‘trick’ your body by varying your exercise routine. Well, that’s one way to keep it interesting; but if you return to the ‘tried and true’ methods for tonifying the body, you can do a comprehensive Yoga workout which will never need to trick the body. When you respect your body, it will respond beautifully.

What is more, some Tai Chi will support the bio-energetic needs for your body to melt away the body’s belly fat without breaking a sweat or spending countless hours in the gym. You can do your Tai Chi in the morning in the comfort of your home or at the office or even in the local Park outside when you are getting a little sunshine to make magic with Vitamin D.

Can you resist the temptation to nibble or inhale processed foods that are full of refined sugar and commercial salt, butter, artificial ingredients, flour, and other synthetic substances that impair your health and contribute to belly fat and degenerative diseases?

If you are genuinely dedicated to a healthy Lifestyle, then you will find the self-control to manage your behavior, make intelligent choices and food selections, and eat only organic whole foods sparing no expense when it comes to ensuring your health and well-being.

Dr. Oz thinks that ‘eating in reverse’ or eating a bigger meal for breakfast will do the ‘trick’. It is fine to eat a hearty meal in the morning, especially if you put out a lot of energy throughout the day, but making that noodle dish will not be the only ‘trick’ of the doctor’s trade that you will require to do the ‘trick’ in the morning.

Whole Grains, instead of noodles are ideal. Just remember not to combine them with acidic fruit. Berries, bananas, nuts, and either a bean or legume will compliment the whole grains. It’s important to vary what you eat in the morning, so it doesn’t become monotonous or boring. Pulse, granola, eggs, and even just plain organic fresh fruit alone will serve you well in the morning.

Dr. Oz thinks that you need five servings of fiber during the day to reduce your belly fat, but he only gave you a couple of pertinent suggestions. If you don’t like to drink TONS of water with psyllium, then don’t use it. If you are smart, then you won’t rely upon Metamucil either… But the healthy snack bar, a piece of fresh fruit, and other high-fiber foods are great ideas for nibbling on during the course of the day.

Once again, organic nuts and seeds are perfect whole foods that supply fiber and nutrients while tasting great. Root vegetables, dried fruit, whole grains, beans, and foods that are made fresh with these ingredients will suffice to provide you with the fiber your body needs to make digestion and fatty metabolism work properly.

It takes more than the supplementation of a couple of ‘superfoods’ for awhile. It takes the evaluation of every morsel of food and every ounce of liquid that passes your lips and enters your body! It all matters…

Now it is true that miso and sauerkraut are superb, we would not categorize them as ‘superfoods’ by definition. I have not tested the golden berries on enough people to comment intelligently or accurately, so you’ll have to seek out other expertise about this Brazilian vegetable.

The miso paste that Dr. Oz had the woman taste is blended with pure water and other healthy ingredients to make a good soup. What most of you get when you order Miso Soup at restaurants is the watered-down skimpy version. The broth is complimented with scallions, ginger root, garlic, tamari, onion, root vegetables, shi-itake mushrooms, sea vegetables, and other ingredients to make it rich in flavor and filled with nutrients. There are four basic types of Miso. We prefer the barley to the wheat miso paste.

Sauerkraut and other fermented vegetables like Kim Chi, beets, carrots, and others can be used in delicious side dishes, instead of a turkey sandwich as Dr. Oz told you. In Macrobiotics, we always have a pickled item with just a couple of tablespoons to compliment the rest of the meal. Pickled daikon and sauerkraut are among my favorites, but the fermented foods at VitalChoice and another of our affiliate business partners are also excellent choices for your dining room table. We usually enjoy them twice a day with lunch and dinner.

Has Dr. Oz never heard of a Reuben Sandwich? He made it sound like putting sauerkraut on a turkey sandwich was unique and new… Not so. The Reuben has sauerkraut, corned beef, swiss cheese, and mayo on toasted rye. It’s very traditional in our American restaurants.

Now let’s spend a little time with the foods that Dr. Oz rediscovered while he traveled during the summer. His roots in Turkey reminded him how much he loves ‘purslane’ with yogurt and garlic. His trip to Australia showed him how the locals use macadamia nut oil for the scalp, but it also works on every cell in the body internally as well as external applications. You can also find macadamia nuts in Hawaii, but Dr. Oz found Noni Juice. What’s new about that? It’s old, so old… In TCM, we rarely if ever take Noni (morinda) alone, but use it in combination with other herbs, fruits, and roots to bring balance.

Did you see the sour face that Dr. Oz made when he sampled the Noni Juice? Right, that’s not the best way to drink it and you won’t drink it very many times before giving it up when it tastes so bad. There are good juice blends that contain Noni and other healing foods that taste good which will inspire you to drink them daily without any grimace!

I wonder why Dr. Oz didn’t find a new-found respect for the other tropical fruit while he was in Hawaii. Guava, mango, pineapple, papaya, banana, and some of the more exotic fruits are fantastic. There’s a great juice blend known as Morning Blend at the local Whole Foods Markets that you will like, but it is best to eat your tropical fruit fresh and whole. Even the coconut is wonderful when you crack one open, drink the water, and use the meat in any number of ways.

All in all, this first episode was OK. We can only hope that Dr. Oz will get better consultants (like us) for whole foods in the future as well as learning more about what constitutes ‘superfoods’.

When we examine the doctor, we find that his attitude is still positive, he is still partly-informed about his topics, and he still has a lot to learn as he shares what he already knows with his smiling, if not disgusted audience. Those women were all disgusted with their bellies, instead of loving their bodies while they learn how to change them with a healthy Lifestyle. Dr. Oz failed to address their attitudes that impact the body more than they realize… Furthermore, if we really wanted to see a vaginal examination for fibroids on a television show, we would tune into TheDoctorsTV. Please Dr. Oz, don’t ruin your ratings by going there… It’s a Dr. Phil and family stunt that is done in poor taste on TV!
