The Chew and You: Healthy and Smart Bites for Tailgate Cooking and Eating Well

The Chew Crew gave the hour to dishes that are best eaten while at a game enjoying a Tailgate Party with your buddies who love Sports and good food.

The Nachos presented an opportunity for a refined palate to get some flavor and textural variety with Daphne and Mario sharing tropical fruit, avocado, and a refreshing twist with black beans.

I am not going to dive into hamburger loaded with cheese sauce on stale chips ever again. But if you do everything fresh with garnishes and a little heat, it works better. I would experiment with turkey or buffalo meat for a change.

Mario makes a mean sandwich where ‘less is more’ by choosing one or two primary meats and a cheese or two with tomato, relish, mustard, and other condiments, instead of piling it all on until you stack it so high it takes a super toothpick to hold the whole thing together.

Clinton gave a good quick tip to keep the hands, faces, heads, and other body parts fresh and smelling delightful with aromatherapy using Lavender and steaming towels. You’ll never know how much people appreciate your effort until you go this far to provide the best for your guests. I prefer Lavender Essential Oil which will also soothe anyone who happens to burn their hands when they pick up hot food.

The Crew all shared their delight at the healthy food that is going out to the Occupiers across the country. They phone for a pizza delivery and eat well while bringing a dialogue to the attention of the media, the icons of monetary hypocrisy, and the excesses of government spending and favoritism. There’s no hunger strike in sight… But if these folks really wanted a change, they would be planting gardens, building houses for their neighbors, and finding more productive things to do with all that time on their hands.

Carla cut some corners with her version of an ice cream sandwich, but the garnishes on the sides of her peanut butter ice cream blend made up for the graham crackers. Mario should have made some pizzelles for the tops and bottoms of the ice cream sandwiches which are far better than crackers.

That monster dog that Patricia Heaton and Michael Symon made and devoured make an impression upon me about Cleveland. Remind me to look up healthy places to eat when traveling to that city… I am waiting for Daphne to prepare a tofu pup with the works for Michael to give him that ‘WOW’ moment about just how good an alternative dog can actually be!

If you are going to prepare Tailgate food at your favorite Sporting Events, be sure to gather together as many natural and organic ingredients as you can with fresh produce for healthy fare. You never know when someone like me will visit you and you’ll have something that we can all eat while we cheer on our teams. Mario was right when he reminded people that Seattle can cook some of the best local cuisine even though the Seahawks and Mariners just haven’t cut the mustard this season.
