Salmonella Contamination from Banquet Pot Pie Frozen Dinners!
Today there were an additional number of cases reporting that exposure to Salmonella from Banquet Turkey and Chicken frozen Pot Pie dinners is responsible in 139 cases in 30 states so far. This is serious enough to warrant the cessation of production of the Banquet Pot Pies in the specific manufacturing plant in Missouri by the parent company ConAgra Foods Inc. voluntarily – just short of issuing a recall.
ConAgra Foods found Peter Pan peanut butter contained Salmonella last February which linked illnesses to 625 people in 47 states and only recently began to ship Peter Pan again in August.
The company and other experts think that this new Salmonella outbreak in the Banquet and generic Pot Pies made in Missouri is due to people under-cooking the frozen pies in the microwave which often does not heat foods evenly.
These experts feel that the consumer should not worry if they follow the cooking instructions and fully cook the pot pies in the microwave sufficiently to see steam rise from the pie indicating that it has reached a suitable temperature to kill the pathogen.
Many people are often too lazy to read the instructions and follow them exactly…or they are in a hurry and do not cook the pies long enough to accomplish the task of destroying the Salmonella.
The pot pies that are contaminated have K-9 near the ‘use by’ date on the box to identify the lot. The CDC has been tracking reported cases and are making an effort to determine the exact cause of the problem. Pennsylvania, Missouri, and Wisconsin report the most cases thus far and the USDA issued a health Alert to warn the public of the problem today.
Salmonella is responsible in 40,000 cases annually, causing dehydration, cramping, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal distress, and fever…killing some 600 people yearly, mostly those who are in a weakened condition in general.
In our Health Circles, we conduct what we refer to as “proactive prevention”. The best way to do this, so you can diminish the risk of feeling those symptoms…is to consume a mixture of Nutri-Biotic GSE and pure water daily for preventive maintenance.
This mixture of the Nutri-Biotic liquid concentrate and pure water is palatable though somewhat bitter. If it is too bitter for you, dilute it with more water. You can also follow the mixture with a fruit juice chaser. You can also use the Nutri-Biotic toothpaste to get the taste of peppermint over and above the GSE in your mouth. It is an effective toothpaste and tastes good!
