Dr. Oz and Goji Berries: The Doctor Gets on the Ancient Bandwagon

May 7th, 2011

Dr. Oz only recently became aware of the nutritional value of Goji Berries, but he is hoping to share his enthusiasm about this ancient Wolfberry with his audience.

The Goji Beries or Wolfberries have been used in the East for centuries and are an integral part of many herbal formulations.

It’s only in the West that it has become fashionable to eat them alone. People are adding them to granola and cereal and trail mix. People are nibbling on them and including them in dishes that have traditionally called for currents, raisins, or cranberries. It works, but it’s not traditional in the truest sense of the word.

Dr. Oz is one of the newcomers who are vocal about Goji Berries and their health benefits without the training and knowledge that comes with the ordinary education in the Eastern Healing Arts. These Western Medical doctors will catch up gradually and eventually come to appreciate more about this nutritional berry and it’s place in our pantries and medicine chests.

Dr. Oz and 5 Fast Fixes to Facial Flaws, Salad Fixings for Health, and Boosting Your Mood

May 6th, 2011

Dr. Oz shared his five fast Fixes for facial flaws on today’s show.

Doctor Oz – 5 Fixes for Flaws

While I can understand that some people might opt to go under the knife or the needle to get instant results, there is a better way.

When you embrace a healthy Lifestyle you can get better results with natural products and whole foods, instead of falling for the promise of quick fixes for the imperfections that you see in your face.

It’s up to you, but from where I stand looking in the mirror; it’s easier in the long run to do it the organic natural way.

You don’t have scars.

You don’t have enormous expenses.

You don’t have to repeat procedure in six months.

You don’t have to suffer pain or worry about recovery time.

You don’t even have to make sweeping changes in your daily routine. There are some simple actions and things to do every day to bring about very good and desirable results without the doctor’s interventions.

All those injections of fat leave the body in a deficient state, regardless of how a little area is plumped up for a few months or a few years. The body got into that condition due to a deficiency in the first place and unless you address this and change it, you will revert back to that previous state in the future. You have to restore the energy and bring Balance in order to prevent further aging and signs of deficiency. It’s a bio-energetic issue…not just a physiological issue.

You can change your eyebrows and your lips or eyes, but other parts of your body will continue to show the signs of aging and weakness. You have to provide energy from whole foods and herbs and Essential Oils to turn this around in a satisfactory manner. There is no quick fix…

The Salad Game was funny, but uneventful. Both spinach and arugula are good greens for your salad. Arugula is bitter and will be a better choice for you, if you want to support the heart, small intestine, and endocrine system. Spinach is fine, but you have to prepare it properly to make the calcium more bio-available to your body. You should ideally vary the dark leafy greens that you choose as the base for your Salads.

The hard boiled eggs can be combined with the white chicken meat. You can enjoy eggs in your Salad one day and put chicken pieces in your next Salad tomorrow. Variety is the ‘spice’ of your Salad Life!

The sunflower seeds are an excellent idea as are other seeds and nuts like sesame seeds, gomasio, slivered almonds, cashews, walnuts, and pine nuts. While I am not a big fan of putting raisins in Salads, if you do; then at least do not combine dried fruit with croutons or grains. Dried currents and other dried fruits that are combined with nuts are good combinations. Seeds and nuts are going to give you more nutrition in your Salad than most people get in an entire meal!

The biggest concern when making a Salad healthy is the quality of your Salad Dressings. You’ve got to use organic and natural ingredients to make your own dressings. Healthy oils, balsamic vinegar, organic mustard, spices, and other seasonings are all going to enhance a wonderful Salad. In fact, a little organic goat cheese drizzled with organic balsamic vinegar and olive oil with some free-range bacon is my favorite fixing for my wild greens.

Dr. Oz continues to give you suggestions for boosting your mood. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to use a distiller for wafting Essential Oils of Lavender and Patchouli into your home. At least Martha Stewart had the good sense (scents) to give her audience a bottle of AuraCacia Lavender Essential Oil for Mother’s Day and every day!

TheDoctorsTV and Cold: With Caution for Certain Medical Challenges

May 4th, 2011

The frigid physicians are giving the audience advice on how to use COLD to treat certain medical challenges.

Dr. Travis is usually the first to tell you to treat a sprain or athletic injury with cold compresses to reduce inflammation and swelling, but the latest research suggests that may actually inhibit the body’s own mechanism for releasing molecules that stimulate repair. So don’t leave cold on your injuries for more than twenty minutes at a time. You can warm the area up again and then if there is more swelling, use another cold compress or a bag of frozen peas.

Cold slows down circulation, so it is not smart to cool down the body for too long a period of time. Use your brain, as long as that’s not frozen, to determine when the time to remove the cold is for maximum effectiveness. You can eat cooling foods or drink cooling herbal teas like peppermint to further your body’s ability to restore balance.

You can visit the DoctorsTV website to learn more about the use of cold for medical treatments.

TheDoctorsTV and COLD, COOL, and Collected Uses

I would not recommend the use of those ice cubes with stuff in them on the face. It’s better to drink your Green Tea, grapefruit juice, and other ingredients. One sip is worth two hundred tangible touches to your external skin. We have specially-formulated creams and salves for that…

The use of cold to induce coma or stabilize a patient in a hospital setting proved to offer a miracle for one woman who could have easily died from being without oxygen to her brain for twenty minutes. There are times when it does save lives!

Dr. Oz and Teenage Pregnancy, Reality Shows Gone Wild, and Kidney Yang Excesses

May 3rd, 2011

It’s funny and somewhat ironic that Dr. Oz chose to discuss the issues of Teenage Pregnancy, Reality TV shows, and Kidney disease on his show today.

Doctor Oz and Teenage Pregnancy Information from Today’s Show

This area of the Doctor Oz website will give you some additional information and there’s another page about the MTV Reality Show. While I am of the opinion that this program is not directly going to contribute to the majority of the decisions to become popular by becoming pregnant to be on this television show by young girls, there is plenty of evidence to show that some stupid girls have actually gone that route to get attention and a possible deal. That’s crazy! But our children are out of control when they have less-than ideal role models, families, and people in their lives to model mature behavior like a mirror.

There are far too many adults in the entertainment industry, the magazine business, the night clubs, and even daily commercials on TV and in print media to suggest that our young people are innocently directed toward sexual expression by their peers. Adults could do a much better job of representing… Mature behavior is relatively hard to find and doesn’t get the attention that the wild and wacky wields in our society. Even Doctor Oz insists that his audience have sex many times a week to maintain their health! What are our children to think?

Other cultures and more experienced civilizations have expended a great deal of effort on building families, teaching young people about appropriate social constructs, and monitoring disciplined choices to be responsible and capable of entering into and maintaining healthy relationships which contribute to a stable and evolved society. You can take our understanding of Kidney Yang for example. If it is balanced; then a person expresses that balance in every aspect of their life, including a healthy body and healthy partnership in intimate sexual expression. Balance!

It’s the excess or over-stimulation of Kidney Yang that often compels both young men and young women to express their sexuality before they are mature enough to enter into a family relationship and raise a child together with a stable partnership.

When you find that a society begins to use stimulants on a regular basis, then an excess in behavior results as a matter of course. You cannot introduce a stimulant into the human body and expect no reaction. When our young children are exposed to synthetic hormones, artificial substances, environmental toxins, agricultural chemicals, and other molecules which stimulate the physiology of the human organism; what do you expect?

Aggressive behavior from excess Kidney Yang can easily be expressed in assertive sexual proclivity. Even young girls who would normally be victims of young boys who have traditionally initiated a sexual encounter are now becoming the ones who force their boyfriends or male targets into sex before developing a genuine relationship.

Teenage pregnancy has been a national and international issue for centuries, but it was rarely openly discussed, except in closed circles. Shame, guilt, fear, deception, and other unhealthy emotions and attitudes often accompanied these unfortunate and unplanned events. Girls lives were changed forever from one moment of abandon and lack of self-control. But now there is at least an open dialogue as well as Reality TV shows that are addressing this topic.

I know that I was pushed toward exploration of my own sexuality by my culture in the 1970’s that were early compared to other decades. Now that has taken another turn and younger girls and boys are saturated with sexual images, advertisements, activity, and uninvited associations more than ever before. This results in unplanned pregnancies and disease as well as dysfunctional relationships. It’s a mess…

The young single female parents that Dr. Oz interviewed all seemed to be better adjusted than many other girls with their advent on national TV shows. So many young girls in similar situations that have no support system do not fare as well as these girls with their brood. They spoke as if they had a handle on the issues and challenges that they are facing and appear to be more informed about their situations than the average young girl who finds herself alone and pregnant.

While there was some blame and finger-pointing by one group of parents and concerned individuals who think that these Reality Shows are making teen pregnancy and unwed parenthood glamorous. Another advocacy group held quite the opposite position and explained how protection and prevention and responsible action are intertwined with all of the new attention given to the youth who find themselves in this position. We are seeing all sides of this issue now. That’s a plus.

I fail to see Dr. Oz, parents, and advocates dealing with basics with our youth. Where are the educators that instruct our children about human sexuality and reproductive cycles from a scientific and social point of reference? If young girls truly understood their menstrual cycles and the nature of reproduction, they could better control their own behavior to be responsible for their choices and outcomes. But how many of these girls know when they can conceive? And where are the young boys in this discussion and the fathers? That’s the other half of the equation that merits our attention. If young boys do not learn what is at stake, then the girls are forced to bear the burden alone or with custody battles, endless emotional disputes, and embroiled interactions that do not foster healthy relationships.

I was thinking about self-esteem issues while watching Dr. Oz talk with the girls. He finally brought up this topic. I was glad to see that it was a consideration. Anyone can manage any obstacle or intrusive element in their lives when they have a good sense of Self. It does make it easier when a person has a support system, but that’s no guarantee of a satisfying outcome or bright future. Lives change in ways that these young people have never even thought about before engaging in sexual behavior…

It’s not that there are not pockets of groups and organizations doing something valuable about this issue, they are. But it’s not enough for our young people who look to their parents, teachers, doctors, and therapists to assist them while growing up, learning about their bodies and relationships, and becoming schooled in the fine arts of healthy family Life. We can all do better…

The DoctorsTV Dare Has Gone Too Far for Health’s Sake!

May 2nd, 2011

I am actually disgusted by the stupid antics on today’s episode of TheDoctorsTV!

Who is producing these ridiculous shows? How on earth can anyone continue to trust the information when the production team would place the doctors’ health in jeopardy with such horrendous Dares? Phil, I hope you are not coaching your son…

I am close to making a decision to no longer watch or comment on this show. The entertainment value is becoming more important than the educational value, so why should we waste our time on this vulgar behavior in the name of medicine! I am appalled…

It is unprofessional and goes against the Hippocratic Oath to do what the doctors did today. It is irresponsible to do this on national TV. The doctors should know better. They have warned kids and young adults not to engage in risky behavior that could impact their health, but then here they are doing it to their fellow physicians. It was painful to watch them make fools of themselves. I expect more from them.

Anyone who forces Dr. Lisa to put those damn hot peppers in her mouth raw is out of their minds!

First of all, any culinary expert knows that you don’t eat those hot peppers raw. You might add a little to certain dishes to add heat and flavor, but you don’t go about intentionally burning the delicate tissues of the mouth, the throat, the stomach, and the rest of the digestive system. That was horrible and it is utterly stupid to have made that Dare with dangerous peppers. Dr. Travis should have stopped it from happening, since he most likely has had to treat burns in the ER from idiots who eat these hot peppers in restaurants or experiment with hot sauces that are becoming more common as people lose their brain power and put things in their mouths that sane people would refuse. There is no good reason to consciously burn your digestive system on a Dare. Shame on those doctors and producers!

Don’t do this at home…and don’t do it at any restaurant, no matter how many of your friends fall for the challenge. It’s not worth it and you’ll pay for it dearly. It’s no laughing matter.

Dr. Travis was still shaking from his encounter with the snake. He was really afraid and yet he was goaded into having the snake placed around his neck and shoulders. He started to shake when the head of the snake rose closer to his neck. No one should be forced to face their fears unless they are truly ready to do so…with proper guidance and support, instead of humiliation and embarrassment. Someone should have given Dr. Travis a way out of that trap!

Dr. Drew was eating his own way out of the world of bugs, insects, and scorpions. At least the woman had gone to the trouble of preparing the bugs with spices and seasonings, instead of expecting Dr. Drew to eat them raw and alive. It was easier to see the snails crawl across the face of Dr. Travis while everyone watched the slime trail. Some people delight in the pain and discomfort of others and we thought that doctors were supposed to be more interested in reducing pain and eliminating discomfort instead of promoting and applauding it on television.

Dr. Jim got the least dangerous Dares. Acupuncture is not quite the same as most fears of needles, but you wouldn’t know that unless you have been trained or have taken a treatment from a professional in TCM. Many years and training go into needle placement, so it’s a lot more sophisticated that poking a needle into the skin in a random location. It’s designed not to be painful as one of the most ancient and effective Healing Arts in the world. So Dr. Jim got the right end of the Dare Stick. He did later get dunked into ice cold water in a tank. At least he is in good enough shape to weather the water that could be very risky for weaker individuals. These Dares were not given much thought and it was unfortunate that this episode aired.

Please, please, please…don’t do this again and don’t mimic the stupid doctors!

Dr. Oz Tackles the Dukan Diet: Years of Fine Tuning and the Approval of the New Duchess of Cambridge

May 1st, 2011

Tomorrow, Dr. Oz will be taking a look at the now popular Dukan Diet. He is a little late to join the wagon train, but he’s going to weigh in on the new weight loss program that has been sweeping Europe and is now getting attention in America.

I first heard about the Dukan Diet when there was an article about Catherine Middleton, now the new Duchess of Cambridge following her marriage to Prince William, now Duke William a few days ago in London. She had been on the Dukan Diet to become a little more slender for her wedding day.

Her family and others in France and England are finding the Dukan Diet to work quite nicely for them, especially with the first phase offering a rapid reduction in pounds. The gentleman who developed this Diet, Dukan, owes it to the oat bran.

Oat Bran is high in fiber and most people do not consume the foods that are high in fiber on a regular basis. Fiber is fabulous! Just ask the proponents of the Dukan Diet.

It has quite a few phases which are designed to stair-step you through stages that help you make some adjustments to the way you eat and the changes that come with weight loss as you return to your ideal weight, shape, and form.

Dr. Oz and Andrew Zimmer: Exotic Foods for Health and Wellness

April 30th, 2011

This week, Dr. Oz brought Andrew Zimmer back on stage to share more exotic foods from around the world with his audience.

Dr. Oz threw Andrew for a zinger when he brought out the last crate with raw walnuts under cover. Andrew Zimmer is well-known for hating walnuts and refusing to eat them when he regularly consumes foods that none of us would dare to put into our mouths!

I thought it was brazen and inappropriate of Dr. Oz to put Andrew on the spot and basically FORCE him to eat those little devil walnuts. Andrew succumbed and I felt badly for him…

No one could ever force me to put something I don’t like in my mouth! You have to stand your ground and refuse to go against your principles to be true to yourself.

At any rate, Andrew showed people the first crate which contained Aloe. It was supposed to be from Ecuador. We know that there are several species of Aloe and the quality varies widely. I will warn you not to just slice into any old leaf and apply it without risking a reaction. It’s better to use the Aloe Gel or Juice that has been properly processed for the best application.

Get your Aloe from reputable companies that know what they are doing to give you a superior product… Aloe is soothing to be sure. It has properties which will absolutely improve your general health and the aloe is well-known for treating burns and sunburns on the skin.

Zimmer then opened the second crate with the Nopales Cactus inside. the Nopales cactus pear has been used by the indigenous culture of the Southwest for centuries to reduce inflammation and heal the interior of the body from many maladies. I prefer to get my juice from TriVita which sweetens the juice with blue agave syrup with a good ratio. It tastes good enough to take daily which is imperative in order to get the health benefits. Just look for Nopalea as the brand name to get the most ideal form of the pear of the cactus.

Andrew will probably be back next time with yet another wild food that is common for some people and foreign to others. It’s always a good idea to expand your palette and expose yourself to cuisine from all parts of the globe, but you won’t necessarily want to put some of these things in your mouth.

TheDoctorsTV and Dr. Lisa’s Sexy Lobster Dinner Ideas

April 29th, 2011

Well, Dr. Drew got hot under the collar and under his shorts as Dr. Lisa began to describe the physiological changes that might take place if you eat her Lobster Dinner designed to improve your sexual abilities.

It doesn’t take that much to stimulate Dr. Drew…just a little laser light therapy does the trick; but he did respond to the rich lobster ready to rev up his sex life when the cover was removed from the plate at the end of today’s show.

Dr. Lisa might have blushed, but at least she did laugh with a little embarrassment as she described the heat and the help of the whole wheat garlic bread, the carrots, and the sexy lobster that contains phosphorous and other nutrients known to enhance one’s sexual performance and physiological ability to enjoy sex.

TheDoctorsTV Lobster Recipe and More Sexy Information from Dr. Lisa

Although Dr. Lisa reminded people to make sure that both partners eat the garlic to share the garlic breath, she did make a point of feeding one another. Hence, you might not need the bib…just lick your partner’s fingers, especially if you have a little extra garlic butter dipping sauce to dip bites of lobster into before sliding it into your mouth or your partner’s mouth in a seductive fashion.

Personally, the time that it takes for the nutrients in carrots, lobster, and garlic to get digested, absorbed, and distributed to your body might be the following day after a nice Lobster Dinner…at least the thought counts. If you are going to have a sleep over, then you could wake up to some playful moments with the power of nutrition giving you more ‘zing’ as the sun rises. If you want the fast forward moves for a fabulous night, then you might have an appetizer of Super Testron before you nibble on seafood, garlic bread, and orange beauties.

If you really are serious about building your reservoir of sexual energy for the rest of your Life; then practice Tai Chi and Iron Shirt. Use some TCM herbal formulations designed specifically for sexual prowess and Kidney Yang. Eat your seaweed, your seafood, and be sure that you get plenty of foods like apricots that contain zinc in your daily diet.

Sexy meals are best when you gaze into the eyes of your dinner partner while eating delicacies. Chocolate was missing from Dr. Lisa’s List of Lobster Dinner delights, but you can find some delicious organic chocolates that will seal the deal with a kiss of sweetness…

Dr. Oz and Eating This and Not THAT at Fast Food Establishments: Eat Here and Not There!

April 29th, 2011

I know that Dr. Oz brought on the Zinc man who has written his “Eat This and Not That” book which has been seen around for quite some time. We’ve discussed this topic before, but here’s the twist for today:

Eat Here and Not There!

It was hard to watch Dr. Oz and Zinc… go through all the caloric and fat numbers for the various Fast Food establishments, because regardless of how accurate the numbers are when compared with an independent lab test; you should STOP eating at these places.

That’s correct!

Instead of worrying your bulging belly about the difference in a few dozen calories to a few grams of fat from one burrito to another burger to yet one more serving of french fries; you should make a move to a healthy Lifestyle and refuse to abuse your body.

Just stop eating at Fast Food places…

Eat Here and Not There!

Do you remember that room in your house where there is a stove, an oven, and a refrigerator? The Kitchen… Go HERE and prepare your food with less fat, less salt, and fewer calories. You just might find more nutrients in the mix, too!

Honestly, how much time does it take to drive past the Fast Food franchises and go home to get your fill of healthier food. If you are worried about saving ten minutes or even an hour a day, then at least go HERE:

HappyCow

There are eateries and Food Trucks in your local area that actually serve you fast healthy food. The plethora of natural foods restaurants, Food Co-op Deli areas, Whole Food Markets food court, and some incredible Food Trucks roaming around your streets are making delicious food that is good for you and it tastes so good…you’ll never stop at another McDonald’s, BurgerKing, TacoBell, or Wendy’s again. You’ll just laugh while driving past them…

The Foodies and the lovers of Wellness are giving you so many options all around the world that you will never have to compromise your values or your waistline ever again. The renaissance of healthy food fast is a BIG DEAL for all of us! We have been observing the emerging marketplace for healthy food choices for more than thirty years. I owned one of the first natural foods restaurants in Wyoming in the 1980s and I was inspired by some of the fine establishments in Colorado at that time. The whole kit and kaboodle has only grown in immense proportions since then, so you can find a healthy place to get food fast in your area – if only you will look for it!

Dr. Oz should have paid more attention to the “Forks Over Knives” documentary information that he discussed earlier this week. It’s as if he has gone brain-dead. You can no longer justify eating dairy, meat, or fast food; if you are serious about preventing cancer, heart disease, or any other major degenerative disease! Just go and review that episode and never forget!

Zinc Dude doesn’t need to sell more of his old books, he needs to write a new one about “Use This Utensil, Not That Utensil”. Instead of comparing burgers and fries, he would better spend his time demonstrating the difference a fork can make when you replace a knife or the grease from the paper wrappings on your fast foods. Did you ever notice how much oil and grease the cardboard case for the fries absorbs? All that gross mayonnaise, grease, and sauce gets all over the wrapping as well as coating your gut with fat! Yuck!

Ultimately, your ability to discipline yourself long enough to drive home to your Kitchen is going to save your Life from pain, inflammation, and disease. You are your own best bet against dying from some degenerative disease when you return to your home Kitchen to prepare your healthy food. You can even get it delivered to your door from companies like Veg Brothers and others.

Drive Home, Not Some Fast Food Fat House…just for the health of it!
