On Friday, Rachael Ray hosted the last six remaining contestants on the most recent Food Network Star series on her show to give a 30 second introduction to their style with a 3 minute cooking demonstration.
The six favored food people were also required to field a question from the audience, but unfortunately for most of them; they forgot in the stress of the moment. Those who did actual had the presence of mind to take a question did a good job of offering ideas, tips, and suggestions when they answered during the demonstration.

The contestants had to make some twist in a traditional dish like lasagna. Some of the modern twists were creative and unusual to say the least. You can watch the episode to see what the end results of these dishes looked like before being judged by the three Food Network top dogs in attendance.
Quite frankly, I was relieved last week when the mean-spirited Penny got the boot. I would NEVER eat a meal made by someone like this woman who is bitter, angry, scheming, nasty, and conniving. No one in their right mind would have watched her had she won the competition. She could prepare Middle Eastern food, but her demeanor was repulsive. Finally, the women like Susie and Giada pointed out to her that the Food Network is a family and the way she treats people is the antithesis of that…
Rachael finally got into the groove of the nature of the competition and prepared her own version of a twisted classic. She chose pigs (dogs) in a poncho! It was cute, but I wouldn’t eat it or feed it to anyone that I know.

Some of the condiments and spices were pleasing to me, but the classics are traditionally preferred for a reason. The dish works… While there’s nothing wrong with changing it up to make a dish modern and unique, it still needs to be presented and prepared well.
The contestants rushed to finish within the three minute time limit. A couple of them were steady on their feet, but a few of them were flustered and a little unnerved by the live audience and the demands of time. The introductions were all good, so those thirty seconds were used wisely.
On Sunday, the judges will pick who stays and who goes for yet another week. Within a few weeks, we’ll have another Food Network Star who gets their own show, a book deal, and a tour out of the hard work that they are putting into this competition.
I am waiting for the day when there is a new Star who is selected, because they are trained and experiences in the preparation and importance of healthy and sustainable food. I don’t see many stars composting when they are in the kitchen. There are some special shows on the Food Network that feature artisan foods and some sustainable practices, but too few for me to be satisfied yet.
Eat Street, Sweet Eats, Unique Eats, and a couple of other series occasionally include those who are like me who value the nutritional value, the sustainability, and the movement of seed in the soil to food on the table from a healthy Lifestyle point of reference. At least the Food Network has people like Jamie Oliver and Tyler Florence who are doing their best to ‘do better’ to be the ;ultimate; that food can be!

There were two couples on today’s show who had a hidden sex life in the bedroom. The wives lived in fear of being naked in front of their husbands due to their judgment of their own bodies and their perception of how their husbands felt about their big bodies.
Dr. Laura explained that men don’t judge bigger women as harshly as women judge themselves. Men who were studied appear to prefer their partners to be more full-bodied, instead of those skinny butts who walk the runways and decorate the covers of the magazines. Voluptuous curves are easily the most desirable shape for men and women need to acknowledge that this is the truth that will keep a couple married and happy with intimacy. The married body naked is a beautiful thing…
The husbands are not sleeping with nor are they having sex with the models on the cover of magazines. They are not the ones who attend fashion shows to see what the next season brings for color, style, or fabric to the stores to entice women and designers in the industry more than to satisfy the common woman who is wife, mother, and sexual partner. It is time that women get a healthy self-concept that is more realistic and accurate about what is considered to be attractive and valued in our culture.
If you have ever judged your body harshly, then you are not the first one to do so…and you won’t be the last. The fashion industry and the retail clothing markets are oriented to specific body types to make it easier to display their clothing lines. Every woman needs to know that there are clothes that will fit her and fit her idea of how she wishes to dress at home, at the office, and in the bedroom. Naked is being dressed as naturally as humanly possible and that is what intimacy and love embraces with deep and gracious acceptance.

The physicians on TheDoctorsTV fielded a lot of health issues again today that places the focus on procedures for fashion and image which risk the life and limb of men and women who are willing to go to extreme measures for appearing beautiful.

It should be shocking to anyone that a woman would be willing to amputate a toe in order to fit in a stylish narrow shoe! I watched the demonstration of how the procedure would be done on the foot to remove the little toe to make the foot more narrow for the sake of fashion. This is bordering on insanity! Imagine the shock of the lover that finds only four toes and a disfigured foot in the nakedness of the moment. It’s crazy to want to look one way in high heels and then show the insanity of your image when you bed the one you are trying to impress with your footwear…
I think that the chemicals in the hairspray and make-up have destroyed the brain function of women who undergo toe amputations! Would you want to be involved with someone who was so obsessed with narrow shoes and surgical procedures? Hardly…unless you are one of them, too!
Then Dr. Drew talked about the health risks associated with getting Botox that is not ‘good’ Botox! Is there that much difference between a neurotoxin and a batch of a neurotoxin that is not as potent as the original? Both kill cells and cause substantial health problems. But when young girls that have not even reached the age of puberty are looking for wrinkles and asking for Botox injections, we have reached the point of insanity and incredulity.
Do you remember those prized pictures of the Native American Indians whose faces wore the wrinkles of a long and difficult life. They were signs of living long and surviving the worst. They were a badge of courage and determination. The wrinkled faces were treasured with the authenticity of knowing the living legends of real people. Those were the days! The days before shallow women and men feared a line in one’s face as a flaw, instead of a natural process of aging. It’s one thing to take good care of your skin and quite another to inject Botox at the first sign of a wrinkle when you are so very, very young…
Then those people go out in the sun to be seen and expose their delicate skin to the harsh sun’s rays which age their skin even more. It’s recycled ignorance and an example of the types of people to avoid. They are shallow and lost in the disguise of beauty, rather than exhibiting a natural and vibrant energy with a genuine zest for living!
The Brazilian Blowout health issue regarding the disclosure about formaldehyde was an important reminder that the chemicals that are used to change a person’s hair can damage other parts of the body. I was glad to hear from the cosmetician who refuses to use these kinds of products on clients.
The same trend for straight hair will soon be replaced by a penchant for curly hair… Just wait and the fashion world will change its mind yet again in the cycles of fickleness and fanaticism. Then those stupid idiots will long for the days when they had their health and their curly hair before suffering the painful side effects of chemical toxicity.
The money spent on this type of product would be put to better use to get psychotherapy to learn to love your body and your hair the way it is. You were ‘Born This Way’ and there’s nothing that you need to do to be beautiful except to love who you are and how you appear.
I was impressed with the reconstructive surgery performed for the woman who could not close her eyelids and had other problems from a botched delivery at birth from forceps. I can’t stand doctors who use forceps with total disregard for the newborn’s body. The disrespect that this woman’s doctor showed affected her entire life. At least she has a chance of finding some relief from the deformity now with the only surgery that I can really justify.
The guy with the skull tatoos might think he is getting work and notoriety now, but how long will his fame last? He is already yesterday’s news and Lady Gaga will most likely never use him again in another video or song. Been there, done that… So he is going to have to live with his tats for the rest of his life and until he is older and wiser, he won’t even realize what a foolish choice he has made to make his body toxic with ink and chemicals. It’s art, but at what cost? I find it better to enjoy the art on some canvas other than the human skin!
Look…it’s wild and crazy that some people go to extremes to get noticed, get attention, and get approval or disgust. Those people are not in their right minds and need counseling to develop a healthy self-image and concept where they can accept themselves for the inner beauty that is more than skin deep which is everlasting and meaningful.
Kids in pageants, guys in music videos, and people in the chairs at their doctor’s or cosmetologist’s office need a mental health screening before the licensed professionals do any procedures to avoid these extreme fashion foibles.

Nancy Grace cried on today’s episode of the DoctorsTV show as she described her fear of dying from cancer and not being able to watch her two children grow up.
Nancy is a bit of a Drama Queen when there are simple healthy Lifestyle changes that she could use to cease her fears and ensure that both she and her children grow old in good health.

The natural solution to Nancy’s dilemma is one that we’ve discussed many times. In addition to the regular screening by doctors for any signs of abnormality, people like Nancy need to eat whole foods, organic foods, healthy beverages, get a lot of restful sleep, let go of stress, and get regular exercise with a healthy Lifestyle.
Nancy balked at first when Dr. Jim and Dr. Lisa showed her plates with healthy foods that are fast, inexpensive, and nutritious for her entire family. Surely…if Nancy or a hired professional cook could season and spice up the broccoli, brown rice, and sweet potato fries; she can expect her children to devour them and give up junk food forever. My children did…
My whole family ate nothing except organic whole foods and drank healthy beverages knowing that this Way of Life was going to benefit them for the rest of their lives. Whole Foods are delicious when you take the time and develop the skills in the kitchen to know how to prepare them with herbs, spices, and real ingredients. It’s not difficult. It just requires that you don’t make excuses and get off your lazy bony butt to take action to be healthy and care for your family as well as yourself.
The woman with three children who insisted that she had little choice but to take the kids through the Fast Food Drive Through for burgers, fries, hot dogs, and shakes is clearly making excuses for her laziness, lack of knowledge, and ineptitude in the kitchen. She doesn’t even know how to do a Search online to find healthy fast food in her own community. It’s there if you look for it and you’ll save money while you save your family from degenerative disease!
Dr. Travis and Dr. Jim made some excellent points in clarifying the actual medical costs when you buy fast food or junk food for your kids. Do you know how expensive cancer is to treat? Do you know how much money is spent on drugs and doctor’s visits when you have heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, or any other degenerative disease which is caused by a diet of processed fast foods loaded with fat, salt, and sugar? These doctors can tell you first hand! So don’t ever use that excuse that healthy food costs more than junk food – it’s not true!
Dr. Travis whipped out the lean burger, the turkey burger, and made cost comparisons to prove the point. Dr. Lisa pulled out the brown rice, the broccoli, and the sweet potato fries and explained to Nancy how she can introduce them to her family with bold acceptance. Dr. Jim shared the BANKER food snacks and had everyone taste the Kale Chips. Nancy appeared to grasp the concept of eating bananas, apples, nuts, kale, eggs, and raisins with a little coaching by Dr. Sears.

The Kale Chips are excellent and you can make your own chips from other root vegetables and whole foods at home in your own kitchen. They will be infinitely better for you than the greasy french fries at any burger joint. Taro Root, carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, and other veggies make great Chips as long as you use healthy oils and organic spices to season them. You can find many Chips at your Whole Foods Markets, too, in case you have no time to make your own.
Dr. Sears went on a wild adventure after waking up late and making a fool out of himself by resorting to eating a fast food breakfast, stopping at an unclean restrooom, and chowing down on oily popcorn at the movies. We all know how all of those choices turn out that the doctors offered, but what about the healthy alternatives that they forgot to mention?
First of all, when you wake up late and have to be somewhere by a certain time; you can call and let them know that you will be a few minutes late. You can take two minutes to go to the bathroom before you leave the house. You can have a Food Pantry where you keep healthy snacks that you can take with you, instead of compromising your health. You can eat healthy snacks or a good dinner before going to the movies or go to a theater that offers healthy foods, snacks, and beverages. That is a happy ending… It could have all been avoided if you go to bed early enough to get a restful sleep and wake up naturally at a reasonable hour. This is a part of a healthy Lifestyle.
Honestly, if you will take a little time to think through these things in advance and organize your schedule around healthy choices and behaviors; you won’t run into these issues. You also need more than doctor’s office visits to screen for cancer. You need to make every morsel of food and every sip of any liquid count…for you and your children.

The doctors left their scrubs and suits and stethoscopes in their dressing rooms and came out on stage in high fashion.
Dr. Drew looked hot in his leather jacket. Dr. Lisa sported long earrings walking in her heels, Dr. Travis still doesn’t own a tie, and Dr. Jim was brave to wear COLOR for a change.
They talked about the fashion trends that lead to health risks, including the problems with shoes, tight clothes, and the weight of your handbags.
The cosmetic segment featured a story about Man Boobs and how surgical procedures could restore confidence to a young fellow following a procedure. If only that young man had known better than to eat food with synthetic hormones and drink water with bio-energetic information from birth control pills, perhaps he could have avoided this whole nightmare of developing Man Boobs at a tender young age. It goes to show you just how important whole foods and pure water can be for your healthy Lifestyle…
It’s one think to be fashionable in the way you dress, but then again; you can do better. You can go to organic and natural materials without sacrificing fashion now! There are more companies that are giving you alternatives than ever before. We promise that we will continue to direct you to our favorites in the future.
If your high heels cause back pain, knee problems, pain, or muscle cramping; then you can still look great with shoes that are designed for the health of the human body. I will think more highly of you when you do! When I see a young women in high heels that risk life and limb, I think that she is an air-head. When I see women carrying monster handbags that weigh more than five pounds, I cringe with fear that their bodies will be unforgiving. When I see tight belts, strange hairstyles, and toxic make-up; my thoughts are on the long-term health consequences for those people. They know not what they do…
What you wear tells me a lot about you. When you are wearing organic material, natural shoes, no make-up, and comfortable clothing; I know that you are smarter than 99% of the population. I admire that in you… I don’t think highly of those who compromise their health to try to look like the runway models or the fashionable glamour girls in magazines. They are mindless robotic followers who will suffer pain and discomfort due to their fashion choices that risk their health.
Even Diane Sawyer on ABC World News is weighing in on a healthy Lifestyle and the incidence of disease with a segment on the show this evening. There are 7 risk factors for developing Altzheimer’s that can be used to decrease your risk. The exposure to harmful chemicals in deodorant and the synthetic chemicals in many fabrics in the clothes you wear play a role in the degeneration of the human body. It’s more fashionable to follow a healthy Lifestyle than to do things that cause disease these days…

I watched the repeat episode of Dr. Oz on the Best and Worst Products and Practices for 2010. It was disappointing and incomplete. It was insufficient.

Will Doctor Oz be able to improve his comparisons for the Best and the Worst of 2011?
Let’s hope so…
He makes the most common mistake that Western Medical physicians make all the time. They treat food and herbs like drugs. This is utterly ridiculous and irresponsible. Someone needs to tell their colleagues that it doesn’t work that way…
It’s not always about price either. Dr. Oz makes this error constantly. Why doesn’t someone on his staff clue him in on the fact that cheap knock-offs of nutritional supplements and herbal formulations or even single herbs or nutrients are often inferior and will not be as effective as the ‘real deal’ that is priced fairly by most companies in this industry.
Discounted products are often outdated and old which means that the active ingredients are just not always going to do what you would hope or expect. The manufacturing practices could also be seriously flawed when price is the primary issue. It is going to pay off when you are an intelligent consumer and know your product’s quality and price point based on reality, instead of market conditions. We are more than happy to pay more money for a great product, instead of wasting any money when it appears to be a good deal on the outside, yet betrays that thought on the inside by cutting corners on quality and other parameters.
Let’s take a ‘for instance’…
Dr. Oz things that a $10 bottle of Astralagus is a good deal. First things first, you don’t take Astragalus alone, you take it in a comprehensive formulation. Next, if the bottle is priced under $10, that is going to make me wonder about the quality and efficacy of the herb. If you want to strengthen your Immune System, you use a combination of whole foods, Essential Oils, and herbal formulations. There is no one herb that does it alone! Got it?
This is the perfect example of why we don’t listen to physicians on matters of nutrition, wellness, and health. They are seriously lacking in knowledge and experience. It’s important that you find and work with qualified professionals in the holistic community who know what they are doing, so you get the best information and health care possible.
Having said that…Dr. Oz did do alright on the Best and Worst exercise. He prefers lunges to sit-ups. This choice depends upon the individual and their physical ability, goals, and current condition. Once again, ‘one size’ does not fit all… You can work with a Personal Trainer or a professional at a gym to design an exercise regimen that is ideal for you as a unique individual. If your knees are weak, then lunges may compromise your efforts. If you learn how to do sit-ups properly, then they can be very useful for toning certain muscle groups. It’s site-specific to each person.
At any rate, Dr. Oz has another six months to gain more experience and support his staff in doing better research for selecting the Best and the Worst for 2011. We’ll watch him and see what he comes up with at the end of the year. For now, it’s imperative to know that you are going to get the best results by consulting and getting care with a holistic professional, not by listening to an hour’s program by a TV doctor who’s knowledge based is limited and inaccurate. Dr. Oz is likeable, but he is not an expert on these topics.

It sometimes seems that everything is bigger in New York. The city prides itself as one of the world’s most popular cities where a person’s Lifestyle can be anything that you might dream it to be from fame, to fashion, to food, to music, to theater, to culture, to all kinds of things that people define as city dwellers to be needed for life amidst millions of people.

Personally, New York City is not my idea of a healthy city. You have to deal with too much stress, too much pollution, too much noise, too much crime, too much of everything except peace and quiet… I have been to New York and it’s fine for a few days; but I would never choose to live in the city. If you decide that living in New York is good for you; then you need some real strategies to stay healthy.
First of all, trying to get around the city is a challenge…a constant challenge. By taxi, by foot, by bus, by subway, but rarely for many do they have their own vehicles, because parking is a nightmare. I have read recently that it costs more than $1000 a month to pay for parking on the streets of New York. That much money could pay for all the nutritional supplements and healthy foods that you would need to deal with the stress of living in The Big Appple!
At least Dr. Lisa reduced her stress levels by taking a carriage ride. Have you ever been in a horse-drawn carriage? It’s delightful! The pace is slow and you have a moment in the hectic pace of the city to look around at your surroundings while you travel through the streets, instead of watching for traffic lights, crazy drivers, or emergency vehicles with blaring sirens. I still think that a slay sliding over the glistening snow being pulled by horses in the winter while enjoying Jackson Hole and watching the herds of Elk is much more beautiful than the sights and sounds of New York. It’s a matter of personal perspective and preference…
Central Park offers a little green space with grass, trees, and pathways where you can take a walk, enjoy a picnic, listen to a concert, or jog for a bit of exercise. Although the crime is always a concern in the city, this park provides a little introduction to what Life is like when you live with more natural surroundings in your immediate environment. It would not be ENOUGH for me, but then I have had the pleasure of having hundreds of thousands of miles of open space in the mountains, plains, and valleys of the Wild, Wild West as my backyard without fences, police, criminals, rules, regulations, or having to share it with millions of other people. The doctors talked to people in the park about sunscreen, exercise, and even using a baby stroller to lose the extra weight after pregnancy following delivery by pushing the little one around and using the stroller as a prop for exercising mommy muscles.
The New York City Firemen have a reputation that precedes the doctors, but they shared some ideas about ways to deal with pain, bone marrow transplants, and the challenges that comes with meeting the needs of so many people in crisis mode. Coffee can become a ‘go-to’ beverage just to keep the adrenaline flowing chemically stimulating the body to maintain the energy required to respond to critical events for the firefighters. But too much coffee can present a host of health problems. The doctors gave them some input, but has anyone ever heard of nutritional supplementation that supports the endocrine system and the metabolic processes when high demands must be met to stay on top of one’s game?
The doctors and Liz also talked about Tap Water and bottled water. There’s an issue that I could and have spent countless hours discussing with all of you on this Blog. You know that I feel strongly that you should not be drinking ANY city’s municipal tap water! The bio-energetic signatures of harmful chemicals and poisons from industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and even drugs like birth control pills or heart medication can all have a serious impact on your health, regardless of the filtering process. It’s a profound situation with no easy answers.
While some people might feel that they can trust the tap water in New York, you wouldn’t catch me drinking it in any way, shape, or form. There’s nothing short of distillation that you could do to it to make it truly healthy. You have to decide for yourselves just how pure you are going to demand that your source of water is… Your healthy depends upon it!
Food, beverages, ice cubes, and even swimming pools or showers in this tap water puts your health at risk. Water Quality is an issue that the world needs to address, not only major cities in America. It’s far better to find an excellent bottled water and recycle or repurpose the plastic bottles than to risk your health with municipal tap water. The source of your bottled water is equally significant and we’ve discussed this topic many times in the past. Water is one of the most significant substances that make or break your healthy Lifestyle. It’s essential that you give this all of your attention to come to terms for your own choices!
You have to work overtime to be healthy when in New York, yet the city has its pleasant attributes with the Fine Arts and diversity that teaches us more about all of the ways to live on this planet together in one place. If you are going to make it in New York, you are going to have to apply everything that I have been sharing with you to maintain your health and sense of personal Well-Being.
