Where Do We Get The Best Superfoods: What Dr. Oz and Dr. Travis Don’t Know

August 21st, 2011

Where do you shop? Walmart, Albertson’s, Kroegers, Safeway, Top Foods, the local corner grocery store? The big box stores carry brands that will do as much for your health as cardboard and taste about the same…

But there are alternatives and places where you can find healthy foods that really do contribute to your health and wellness. Those are the companies that should be frequented and supported to be able to continue to bring you real whole foods that keep you youthful, vibrant, healthy, and happy.

Love Street specializes in Living Foods…or in other words: Raw Foods

These people are bringing you some of the best whole food ingredients, nut butters, raw foods, and nutritional supplements along with genuine Superfoods for your health and well-being.

Dr. Oz and the doctors on TV throw around the term, Superfoods, often and too frequently they are talking about basic fruits, nuts, vegetables, ans seafood like blueberries, walnuts, broccoli, and salmon.

Dr. Oz mentions Maca Root and Dr. Jim talks about Green Tea, but do they really know where to get the best authentic Superfoods that genuinely boost your health and vitality?

We do…

We simply head on over to our local Whole Foods Market or shop at Love Street Living Foods on the Net!

We trust that you will find both quality in their products as well as excellent customer service. These folks ‘walk their talk’ and take good care of you in the process.

You can shop for Superfoods with confidence that what you will get delivered to your door from Love Street will still be living with vital energy which is the only way for you to improve your health. You have to take ‘energy’ into your body through foods and beverages that nourish your body, instead of being ‘dead’ without any residual ‘life force’.

Dr. Oz and TheDoctorsTV: Fermented Foods for Fabulous Health and Protection from Cancer

August 20th, 2011

Dr. Oz recently told his audience that it’s better to eat sauerkraut instead of cabbage to protect their bodies from developing cancer and other degenerative diseases.

The doctors on TheDoctorsTV daytime program often explain that cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables are good for your health in the prevention of disease. Recently, the doctors mentioned that fermented versions of these foods are good for your health.

Dr. Oz and Your Appendix

Neither Oz nor the physicians know much about fermented food in the kitchen, but at least they all respect the old traditions from Europe and Asia which have been using these foods for thousands of years. People relied upon foods for their well-being when there were no physicians to provide for their medical needs.

Fermentation is also a good food preservation technique. You can’t grow cabbage or cucumbers year around in many climates, so you have to rely upon canning or pickling to preserve what remains from the harvest.

Different civilizations have come up with some unique ways to create flavorful fermented foods like Kimchi and pickles, amasake and yogurt, and vegetables that will store for a long time or offer a textural component to any meal.

Purchase Organic Cultured Vegetables.

The ecology of your body’s internal environment is supported by fermented foods and there’s really no substitute for repopulating the digestive tract with beneficial flora. Your appendix is not the only method for achieving this task and the consumption of fermented foods provides fabulous food for fun ways to get what your body needs for wellness.

Some of the fun is in the drinking of wine, beer, and cider; but we’ll discuss the fermented beverages another day. We depend upon regular introductions of fermented foods for keeping our digestive system and our immune system healthy and strong. Even vinegar, some sausages, and leavened bread rely upon fermentation in their preparation. Most types of foods can be preserved through fermentation and if you want to read more about it, the wikipedia site is an excellent resource for the basics.

Dr. Oz and His Health Surprises: Family Secrets and One Minute Solutions

August 19th, 2011

Dr. Oz repeated his Surprise show today and I found more things to comment upon for all of you.

First of all, when I listened more carefully to the Family Oz discussion and game; I realized that Dr. Oz is a man who is working hard to be a good father and a good family man. It takes a lot to juggle a career, a TV show, and a family.

Women have been doing this for a long time and it’s good to see a visible example of a professional fellow talk about his family in front of millions of people. For Dr. Oz to show his vulnerabilities and his Family Secrets on television.takes some courage and willingness to be transparent.

One of the Family Secrets that surprised me is that the perception of the biggest bad habit that plagues Dr. Oz was vastly different among family members. Dr. Oz thought it was his ‘temper’. One of his daughters thought it was his ‘impatience’. His son gave specific examples of ‘time-management’ issues with Dr. Oz the Dad being in a rush and taking risks on the road.

Perhaps it is a ‘family’ issue that revolves around time-management. If there are poor choices in the way a family members uses family time in any interaction, then it can result in anger, impatience, temper tantrums, or pushing the other parent to be the disciplinarian.

The good family doctor thought his wife, Lisa, was more strict with his children than he was; but all of his children think that he is the parent that is the most strict with them. Does he really know what Lisa is doing with the kids? Do he and Lisa communicate sufficiently about discipline issues regarding their children to know who is doing what? That remains to be seen…

Finally, Dr. Oz and his children agree on one thing about his approach to his family creed in Life. Everyone knows that Dr. Dad expects everyone to ‘show up’ and be actively involved in their lives together. So…if that’s really the case, then when the family does show up, they need to learn to communicate better to know how each member of the family feels about one another and the topics of bad habits, emotional moods and responses, and the expectations for discipline and guidance for the parental roles.

OK…one last comment before moving on from the Oz Family Secrets that has come to light since the first airing of this episode.

Dr. Oz has a daughter, the oldest, named Daphne who will be appearing on a new show on ABC. “The Chew” table includes Daphne Oz as one of the contributing members of the Chew Crew. I have chuckled at the mention by her on the TV commercial about The Chew saying that she loves getting organic cookies from a local bakery. Why isn’t she baking her own? Will she inherit the time-management issues that her father struggles with?

I am eagerly looking forward to The Chew with two of my favorite chefs from the Food Network: Mario Batali and Michael Simon, both of whom are Iron Chefs and have been showing people how to prepare food for years on TV. Even Whoopi and Joy Behar are looking forward to having good food on the set close to theirs for The View!

The only people that already HATE The Chew show are those who are staunch watchers of “All My Children” which will be replaced by The Chew in September. The fans of this soap are displeased to the nth degree that their soap is ending on ABC. They would hate any show that is placed in the time slot that their lives revolve around five days a week! If they can see beyond their anticipated loss of drama and heartbreaking relationships; perhaps they could learn a thing or two about living a healthy Lifestyle by watching The Chew!

If the production crew of The Chew were as smart as they think they are, they would invite Susan Lucci and the other actors and actresses on “All My Children” to appear on their new show. This could help to transition viewers to find something valuable about the change in TV scheduling.

After all, Dr. David has often mentioned the importance of a healthy Lifestyle in one of his lines in the last year. I heard him say it! The story line has Dr. David using a special technique to bring people back from the dead. The writers had to find a way to reunite the old characters to bring some story lines to an end, so ‘regeneration’ was the perfect mechanism for our reunion with soap favorites from the past.

Let’s talk about a few of the One Minute Solutions that Dr. Oz gave to his audience. Green Tea takes a little longer than one minute to brew properly. Beets take more than one minute to juice and drink. But the quick method for taking stock of your resting heart rate and taking a chromium supplement can be done in under a minute. It takes longer than one minute to boil an egg. Furthermore, it’s a BAD idea to boil a dozen eggs all at once and eat them one by one daily all week long. Eggs go bad quickly! It’s better to take a few minutes to soft boil an egg or two daily and eat them immediately in the morning or for a snack during the day.

Dr. Oz and a Sore Throat: Signs of Infection, Irritation, or Overuse

August 18th, 2011

Dr. Oz talked about sore throats and the reasons why people get them on today’s show. New parents often have no idea what they are dealing with when it comes to newborns or young children. When you travel, it is quite possible to be exposed to substances which can also cause a sore throat; but are not going to require a trip to a physician. It depends upon the severity of the sore throat.

When the throat is irritated and becomes inflamed, the way it feels is attributed to being ‘sore’. The average person does not have any equipment to take a good look, so they have to make a visit to the doctor to find out why their throats are sore. Most of the time it is due to a virus or bacterial infection, but there are often other pathogenic micro-organisms that are responsible for a sore throat.

Yeast or candida albicans is common in infants and young children and those with compromised immune systems. This type of infection is typically known as Thrush. It coats the tongue and can cause a sore throat.

But then again, a sore throat is not always a sign of an infectious agent. First, you need to rule out overuse. Many people who sing a lot, speak a lot, use their vocalizations in an emergency, scream in anger, or ingest something like a poison could all be the causes for soreness.

When there’s redness, it’s most likely caused by micro-organisms which initiate a response by your body to deal with the exposure to an irritant. Redness is a sign to a doctor that the process has begun and requires intervention. Still…a culture often needs to be done to be certain what you are dealing with…exactly.

When you find pus, there’s a good chance that it’s bacterial. Strep Throat is frequent in children, especially those people who are constantly exposed in a public setting like a daycare center, classroom, or work environment.

When it is inflamed, it could be from any pathogen that is irritating the tissue. Inflammation will often turn into infection if nothing is done immediately, leaving the invasive organism to do more damage.

When there is pain, it could be from a viral invasion that causes discomfort for several days. Sometimes the severity and the duration will give you clues about whether it is due to a virus or a bacteria. Bacterial infections can last more than a week. If you try to treat a sore throat at home and it doesn’t get better within a few days, go to the doctor’s office and get it checked out. If you are running a fever, it is another indicator that you have an infection that needs to be treated.

There are Essential Oils that help to prevent and can often be used to treat sore throats without further medical intervention or anti-biotics. But you have to ensure that you have pharmaceutical grade EOs, because fragrance oils will not work for one’s health. The Essential Oils of Clove, Thyme, Lemon, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Rosemary, Oregano, Rosewood, and several others are generally the oils that are effective for dealing with pathogens and infections. Aromatherapists are trained to know which oils are appropriate for each presentation whether it’s only inflammation or if it progresses into infection.

If you overuse your voice for some reason, then some aloe vera and soothing foods like chicken soup, miso soup, vegetable soup, kudzu pudding, or fresh organic juices will suffice to make your throat feel better. The Essential Oils of Lavender and Myrrh are often used to soothe tissue.

Be Young Essential Oils

You can learn how to use Essential Oils and other natural products to soothe a sore throat from those who have had experience or training in this area of expertise. If your throat continues to be sore and hurts even worse; then go to your doctor and get a culture to determine if a pathogen is at work causing the soreness and pain. GSE can be diluted with purified water and gargled to reduce the overgrowth of candida and address other pathogens. MSM will often stop or reduce the pain and discomfort until you can do more to eliminate the actual cause. The important thing to remember is to not let it go unchecked or untreated, because it usually gets worse until you do something to take care of the actual cause.

Dr. Oz and Cancer-Fighting Foods: Seafood, Tropical Fruit, and Healthy Nuts

August 17th, 2011

Dr. Oz and his expert on cancer research are describing some foods that are supposed to be considered to fight cancer in the human body.

Dr. Oz and Quiz About Foods to Keep You Cancer-Free

Among the foods named on today’s show are cashews, papaya, and shrimp. While most of us would point you in the direction of seafood like salmon, sardines, and other fatty fish; you can also benefit from flaxseed oil, krill oil, and fish oils like the orange pudding-like Coromega which you will find in natural foods stores. You can get the best flaxseed oil from Barlean’s and the best Krill Oil capsules from VitalChoice.

In addition to cashews, other organic nuts are going to contribute nutrients and other co-factors to keep you free from cancer-causing agents. Almonds, walnuts, pine nuts, brazil nuts, and pecans are all healthy nuts to nibble on for snacks or for adding to any dish. You can even make a milk from these nuts.

Papaya is not the only tropical fruit that we feel strongly about in the waging of the good fight to prevent cancer. We have found that the enzymes in papaya and pineapple play a key role in digesting your food and maintaining the integrity of the cells in your body. Citrus fruits like lemons, oranges, grapefruit, limes, tangerines, and mandarins are all good choices that keep the levels of vitamin C and other nutrients in your body when you want to keep cancer at bay.

Beets and other root vegetables seem to reduce instances of certain types of cancer. But you can’t just take your beets out of the can and expect them to work wonders for you. You must eat organic fresh beets and beet greens from the garden at their peak during harvest time. It’s fine to pickle them for the rest of the year, but they are at their best when fresh.

Dr. Oz reminded people that coffee has been recently shown through research to help prevent cancer, but in our opinion…it has to be organic coffee that was recently roasted and ground to be of benefit directly. You should not use refined sugar or dairy to flavor your coffee, but if you have to sweeten it; then use a natural organic sweetener and almond milk or soymilk.

Fresh air is not a food, but it is a part of the healthy Lifestyle that is necessary for living free from cancer. If you live in a city with air pollution or drive a car often, then you might need to move. The Dr. Oz recommendation to filter tap water is incorrect. Do not ingest tap water for any reason whatsoever. Fresh and pure water is equally significant if you intend to stay healthy. Your entire environment and the whole foods that you eat are of paramount importance.

Sweet potatoes and other root vegetables are great foods to include in your healthy diet to keep you from developing any cancer in your body. We cannot stress the relative importance of sea vegetables, including kombu, wakame, hiziki, and nori among others to provide the nutrients to maintain wellness.

There are dozens of whole foods that contribute to keeping the human body free of cancer, but a healthy Lifestyle is of paramount importance. Dr. Oz and his guest expert mentioned that when you smoke or if you are obese, you are placing yourself at greater risk for cancer. Yes, it makes a world of difference when you are at your ideal weight, smoke only organic tobacco from a pipe, and engage in activities that bring Balance to Body, Mind, and Spirit. Your attitude plays a pivotal role in being free of cancer. You must love yourself, love your Life, harbor no emotional thoughts of worry, loss, or self-destructive behavior. Then your body will bestow upon you genuine health and well-being with every cell being in harmony with your beautiful way of living Life every day.

The Food Network and the Most Popular Snack in the World: Popcorn

August 15th, 2011

The Food Network can often keep the pulse of the nation when it comes to our favorite snacks and foods. Sometimes the fine folks at the Cooking Channel even think that they have a sense of what the world is thinking when it comes to the most popular snacks.

The most popular snack in the World right now is thought to be: POPCORN!

You can find dozens of ideas for snacks at the Food Network website here:

The Food Network Snack Information

While it may be popular, it may not be the healthiest snack that you can choose to nibble on between major meals.

But when you take organic popcorn and use air to pop it, it’s a healthy snack. When you use an oil, be sure to use an organic oil like olive oil, peanut oil, coconut oil, or safflower oil. If you insist upon adding butter, then be sure that it is organic butter! Use sea salt to season your popped corn treats. Should you be bold and adventuresome; then sprinkle some spice and herbs on your popcorn. We like cayenne, garlic, paprika, black pepper, cumin, parsley flakes, cilantro, dill, and even some basil to impart unique flavor and embellish the nutritional value to popcorn.

If you want to make your popcorn into a sweet treat, then some honey or other natural sweetener added right after popping will work magic. You can add more seasonings like ginger, chocolate, dried fruit bits, raisins, sesame seeds, nuts, and other goodies to add texture and flavor to your popcorn. Balls of popcorn are a favorite among children and they’re not just for Halloween these days!

The trends in snacks will take a number of turns down that road, but we still love our snack bars, our nut blends, and our fresh fruit for our daily snacks.

We tend to create Trends, instead of following the pack. We were some of the first people to really get on the spirulina bandwagon and still stick to our guns with Vital 18.

We were among the first to boycott the purchase of tuna until the issue of drift nets was addressed and resolved and now it’s Law.

We were among the first to endorse specific herbal formulas and nutritional supplements for Longevity and Wellness and now there are millions following suit that are in the game for keeps!

We set the bar really high when it comes to snacks, too. It’s not enough to grab and go with an Almond Joy or a Snickers bar these days. No…only the best organic ingredients will suffice for healthy snacks.

We fell in love with a sesame seed and honey snack in the 1970s called Nookies in Boulder which was one of the first successful snack items that were tasty and healthy. Then along came the WaGuru Chew and we enjoyed the Cashew Almond the most! We have seen some fantastic snacks come and go over the years. There are more choices now than ever before, so there’s no shortage of options for the health-minded individual regardless of age.

Could potato chips be the world’s favorite? Could pommes frite qualify? For those of you who do not speak French, that translates into ‘french fries’. Could it be sweet or savory? Could it be popcorn? Could it be chocolate? What is the world’s favorite snack? The Food Network weighed in on the issue and in their opinion, it happens to be: good ol’ Popcorn… This snack can be found at home, at fairs and festivals, and at the movies.

One thing is certain. That is the fact that people all have their very own favorite snack. Some countries may have a large percentage of citizens who love dried squid or rice or pastries or cake or cookies or any number of other snack items; but when you look at the entire world, the most consumed food happens to be rice.

We can send you over to Love Street Living Foods for some great snacks using Raw Foods as the primary ingredients. We can send you over to your local Whole Foods Market where you will find several aisles full of organic snack items that are healthy and delicious. You can also make your own snacks in your own kitchen and you’ll know precisely what is in your goodies. You can do it all and never feel any guilt or remorse for enjoying healthy organic snacks any time of the day or night. You’re allowed…

Love Street Living Food Snacks

There are two snacks that we want to suggest that you try out. Reed’s Ginger Chews are a nice blend of spice and sweetness. They’ll be good for digestion, a queasy stomach, morning sickness, nausea, or just for fun! The organic coconut bars are also delightful. They are soft and chewy, sweet and nutritious. Don’t underestimate the savory snacks either and give them a chance to deliver flavor to you…

Hummus with nan or injera is wonderful, home-made potato or vegetable chips with sea salt and spices are fantastic. Organic Beef Jerky is great. Fresh organic nuts, popcorn, seeds, and fruit leather all qualify for healthy snacks. You can build a healthy snack around a great dip any time.

TheDoctorsTV and Heathy Savings on Health Care: LivingSocial, Shopping in Bulk, and Summer Savers

August 13th, 2011

TheDoctorsTV aired a repeat episode that I missed the first time around. Dr. Jim started today’s show off with a big bang for Savings on health care items and wellness services from LivingSocial. Other ways to save money and avoid mistakes were shared throughout the rest of the hour…the best of which were shopping ideas and methods for dealing with health issues during the summer months.

LivingSocial is one of my all-time favorite companies who are bringing local deals to people in all kinds of places. Spa treatments, discounts off Red Wine and good food, health care services in specialties like acupuncture and chiropractic, and deals offering 50% off the normal rates at companies that you’ll find in your city are among the most common things you’ll find daily.

LivingSocial seems to do more for healthy Lifestyles than Groupon or other comparable businesses. You can subscribe to the daily Deals from LivingSocial at no cost to you, and then you’ll save a fortune when you find some offer that appeals to your specific tastes. Although, in all fairness, I often find some excellent offers coming in regularly from Groupon, Yollar, TheCustomerAdvantage, and a few other companies that are successfully using this business model. It helps the merchants when you continue to shop at their establishments once you develop a business relationship when they are giving you such a deep initial discount on their stuff for introductory specials!

LivingSocial: The Best Daily Deals and Discounts

Shopping ideas on today’s episode made good sense and all of the physicians seem equally capable of finding good ways to save money on health care purchases of goods and services.

TheDoctorsTV Shopping Ideas Details and Links

If you have come to know me by now, you will appreciate the fact that one of the resources that Dr. Jim identified was for recycling and the re-use of unwanted items in local communities.

The ReUseIt Network helps you find people locally, yet is active in many countries around the world. The time to recycle what you no longer can use, but still will work for other people has never been easier to locate those who are offering and those who need such items. This is one network which really makes an impact in saving the environment while saving people money sharing goods that still have a lot of life left in them.

ReUseIt Network Information and Locations

There is another method for enjoying Savings when you shop with companies that value your age. Children and Seniors are among those age-related populations which get special treatment from many business people.

Senior Discounts Site

Saving money when you go out to eat with your children or with their friends in tow can get expensive, so this site is going to help you identify places where parents and teachers can save money on food and dining.

Kids Eat Free Information and Locations

While this next resource doesn’t save you money directly, it is more like a lending or rental library of eBooks. eBooks can cost you a fair amount of money for just one read and then what do you do with the information. Well, here, you can share the resources with others by using their online system.

The eBook Fling Thing

I thought it was interesting that the doctors suggested that you shop alone or with a friend that will help you limit your purchases, shop with cash while you shop for sales items, and shop with a List to keep your focus on what you need, not on extra items that knock your socks off in the moment with slick placement in stores. Maybe doctors do their own shopping!

It might seem common and normal to physicians, especially Dr. Travis who lives and breathes in the Emergency Room; but it’s hard for many people to believe that hospitals make so many errors when billing their patients. The doctors’ advice to check your medical billing charges after a stay at the hospital was probably one of the most revealing segments on the show. Hospitals are very disorganized when it comes to accurately billing patients for the procedures they get, the medications they receive, and the items they use. There are more mistakes than anyone would expect, so it is a way to not only hold the hospital accountable, but to save some money by making sure you are only billed and pay for what you actually used.

The pretty CVS representative fielded questions about Summer health issues. She only gave the most basic answers and ideas for the treatment of health problems that people most often encounter during the Summer months. Out of the many discussed, the most frequent are related to bug bites and stings. While the typical options like calamine lotion and epi pens was given, there are other more natural methods that no one seemed to be aware of on this medical panel. Where do doctors vacation during the Summer?

Jellyfish stings are painful and can be remedied with vinegar. Bug Bites often result in some degree of inflammation which is lessened by applying the Essential Oil of Lavender or Myrrh. The early application of Rosemary can inhibit insects from landing or biting you. Citronella is also known for deflecting insects and bugs by scent alone.

When you travel, you might want to take some of these things with you just in case you need them and they aren’t readily available en route. The Nopalea cactus juice is good when taken internally for reducing inflammation whether it is affecting the interior of the body or even joints and muscles. Pearl Powder is the most effective for internal and topical inflammation or irritation. You can make a poultice out of the Essential Oils and the Pearl Powder to use on your skin. You can also take the pearl internally with plenty of pure water to quell inflammation.

I don’t know much when it comes to tatoo removal or fender benders, so you’ll have to seek your free ideas about these things elsewhere. But I do know that your health care doesn’t have to be expensive and that there are hundreds of ways to reduce the costs of natural health care. There are practitioners who use holistic methods that will take your case when you don’t have the funds to pay for their services on special occasions. There are non-profit organizations that make it their business to assist you with cost-effective health care regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin, and ability to repay. You just have to ask…

Dr. Oz and the Age of the Penis: Libido Boosters, Foods, and Phases

August 12th, 2011

Dr. Oz took on the topic of the male penis today. He discussed the life cycle of this appendage with his guest expert urologist. He began by saying that it is a sexual organ, when it seems to me that it is more correct to say that the penis is a part of the male reproductive system.

Dr. Oz didn’t make that distinction. He focused on the sexual function of the penis and left reproductive health as a subject for another day. It appears that his audience is more interested in human sexuality than in the health of a major system of the physical body.

So it goes…men thinking with their third legs!

However, the men questioned about the status of their penis from the audience all seemed to indicate that the aging penis was going to happen long after the age they were enjoying to date. They extended the dysfunction of their personal penile health into the future…

The only members of the audience that wanted to get into the nitty gritty details about the resurrection of the performance of the failing or tired penis were the women who had husbands lagging behind. Dr. Oz told the wives about Libido Boosters to their relief.

Libido Boosters included everything from whole foods to vacuum tubes and sprays for hormone stimulation to L-Tyrosine supplementation. The foods that Dr. Oz mentioned were the most promising to me for ease of administration and least costly among all the options he presented to the audience.

Watermelon, blueberries, bananas, avocado, flaxseed, walnuts, and other whole foods like fresh vegetables were among those recommended, but he failed to identify those foods that we know to be of service in the ‘care and feeding’ of the male reproductive system.

Black beans; aduki beans; sea vegetables like kombu, wakame, hiziki, and nori; oysters and other seafoods which contain zinc; sea salt; root vegetables and foods known to nourish Kidney Yang and Jing. Let’s not forget specific traditional herbal formulations to replenish this energetic aspect of the human body along with pearl powder and Super Testron.

There are also specific Essential Oil Blends that will give more ‘get up and go’ to the phallus for the function of sexual reproduction or urination. This gets very individualized, so I won’t go into any general suggestions here. But you men must realize that massage with Essential Oils will do wonders for the wondrous appendage and the energy at the base of the spine in the First Seal.
