Long ago in a universe far away, we all read “The Sugar Blues” and most of us began to feel better fast when we stopped ingesting the white poisonous substance. We were part of that initial movement toward health foods in the 1970s.
We quit using white refined sugar, table salt, white flour, and artificial anything which we replaced with natural UNPROCESSED whole foods.
We started and supported local Food Coops, health food stores, and buying clubs. We taught each other to cook and make our own bread, granola, yogurt, sprouts, and peanut butter. We juiced and we began to garden and source our own herbs, spices, and condiments. We rewrote the book on health and wellness while we learned to do yoga and gained the knowledge of ancient cultures from the East.
We’ve never looked back and wondered if we knew the answer to the questions, since now we were ‘living proof’ that our choices were working for us. We were stronger, smarter, and healthier than our contemporaries who did not change their ways.
Today in the News, the trending topic “is sugar toxic?” features traditional media sporting the question to which we quickly announce: Obviously, YES!
CBS News: Is Sugar Toxic?
There’s more evidence now to justify and support our position. It is generally-recognized in most health and medical circles that refined white sugar is linked to medical issues from degenerative diseases to Diabetes to obesity and beyond!
The real question should be: what will we do about it?
We decided to refuse to buy it or consume it, and to that end we began to develop healthy alternatives. The natural sweeteners are all around us now and it’s easy for newbies to make a choice. We are making ketchup without it along with other foods that people don’t typically associate with sugar. Companies were born and industries created to meet our needs and satisfy our demands for healthy options.
Even when sneaky manufacturers design products like Splenda, we educate one another and inform the public. Look what happened to high fructose corn syrup… Just saying!
