Dr. Oz and His A to Z List of Medical Problems

April 9th, 2012

Allergies to Z,z,z,…s – this was the day for an alphabet soup of medical problems on Dr. Oz.

He adores his body parts and demonstrated Diverticulitis with a diseased colon. He added to it with a discussion of the loss of the sense of taste as an audience member couldn’t even tell she was smelling and tasting a lemon.

Next he takes a trip to Fever and recommends orange juice. Growths referred to as skin tags need to be watched when irritated. Snip, snip goes the doctor….

Hives result from exposure to allergens, it’s the body’s way.

Ingrown toenails became the next topic of interest. The way you clip your nails makes all the difference.

Looking ahead of your body helps to preclude things that could be avoided. Prevention is more than screening, it’s the intentional behavior that stops aging and degeneration in its place.

Commercials are so pesky!

Keratosis is dead skin that builds up. Need to clear your throat? Whiskey for Oz patients…

More letters of the alphabet subjected to the scrutiny of Doctor Oz. With any thought at all, he will include these things on his website..

Dr. Oz From A to Z

Greasy food makes its way into the conversation and Oz has some tea for that!

Now he’s got B and B oatmeal for soft stools. Bananas and blueberries.

Normally, I would take the time to give you alternatives and options, but that’s just too many letters for today. Let’s just go with the letter L for Lifestyle!

Good Morning America: Welcome to the New Cell Phone Study

April 6th, 2012

On GMA this morning, the topic of cell phone studies was revisited yet again. This most recent study looked at the relationship between cell phone use and the incidence of brain cancer in children.

Good Morning America: Brain Cancer in Kids from Cell Phone Use

When I was a child fifty years ago, we never heard of any one our age getting brain cancer. We heard about strep throat and chicken pox, but cancer was a disease for older, much older people.

As a child, we used our parent’s land line. We had rotary dialers and phone calls were not all that exciting. We preferred to talk to each other face to face in school, in church, or at home.

These days there is a cell phone plastered to the ear of every teen, between, and pre-teen; and the rest are all texting each other. They are in need of chiropractic care due to the strain on their necks, wrists, and fingers.

Cancer and the damage to DNA from the use of cell phones has been studied before and needs to be studied in the future. The developing brains in children are particularly vulnerable to forms of radiation emitted by electronic devices.

I may be the only person within thousands of miles who doesn’t use a cell phone! My children scoff at me while they text their friends. I tell them how valuable their health is… It falls on deaf ears, they are too busy waiting for a text message back to pay attention to me.

I tell them that it’s their body and cancer is harder to treat than it is to prevent, but it’s still their choice. The instant gratification of communication by cell phone is more exciting than a mother’s words of wisdom…

When you’ve seen as many terrible readings on all kinds of people when we test the cell phone, the cold, hard truth sinks in. You couldn’t get me to use a cell phone under any circumstances!

I won’t be doing ‘THAT’ to my delicate brain tissue, nor will I intentionally disrupt the function of my nervous system for the sake of convenience or playing with a new toy. No way!

So parents and children and doctors have to ask the difficult question: “Do I want to enjoy my cell phone now or do I want to deal with a disease later?” The piper will be paid – eventually.

One thing may help you avoid the piper. Wear a CieAura Holographic Chip. At least you and your children will have a fighting chance to stave off the cell phone waves that cause imbalance and disease.

Dr. Oz and Shizandra Berries: An Adaptogen for the Few

April 5th, 2012

Here we go again…

Dr. Oz is talking about a single berry, Shizandra, that is only meant to be a part of an herbal formula. How many times does it take to convince a doctor that TCM uses comprehensive formulas, not isolated single herbs most of the time? How many light bulbs are there in his house?

While it’s fine to discuss the bio-energetic properties of Shizandra, it is irresponsible to do a taste test of raw berries. No one who has been properly trained in TCM would do such a thing on stage just to get a reaction!

Dr. Oz does ‘sensationalist’ TV…so we’ve come to expect it. But you need to know better!

Adaptogens are typically carefully combined into a formulation specifically for each individual. There are some stock formulas, but please, I implore you, do not take this Adaptogen alone.

Dr. Oz and Bad Moods: Attitude Matters

April 4th, 2012

Dr. Oz tackled the beast of ugly moods that destroy the health of the individual who is lost in their turbulent emotions.

Watch out! They will argue for their limitations and their right to lash out with harmful words, loud voices, and ugly sentiments. Just walk away…

Dr. Oz and the Health Risks of Bad Moods

Anger, frustration, irritability…you name the emotion and we can tell you which organs and systems the expression harms. Explosive and simmering emotional states take their toll on the body, mind, and spirit.

Then to make matters worse, they look outside themselves for something or someone to blame. You are the one who is responsible for your state of mind. Attitude matters…

Dr. Oz did offer a few good ideas for assistance. I agree with him on his Number 1 pick – the Negative Ion Generator.

Negative ions are essential for balancing the positively-charged ions – it’s Yin and Yang in the miniscule world of electrical realities. Balance!

Dr. Oz suggests that researchers think that positive ions are ‘bad’ for you, but that’s not true. He didn’t do his homework with the proper experts. We’ve been recommending Negative Ion Generators for over three decades and we can say that the technology is useful for restoring Balance.

Dr. Oz confused SAD and EM fields to some degree with his comparisons. Seasonal Affective Disorder which affects the mood is due to the lack of the blue light spectrum from many light fixtures and bulbs in the home or office or school during the winter months when people don’t spend as much time in the sun outdoors in natural light. They get depressed easily.

EM fields which include positive and negative ionic charges in and around the body are not effected by light. A shower or a waterfall are usually presented as examples of Nature providing a balancing effect for the physical body. Sometimes both approaches together yield the best results.

Dr. Oz went on to recommend that people cuss and swear, but that only perpetuates the energy of the imbalance, giving short-term release in a vacuum. That’s foolish…

Attitude does matter and a person chooses to express a healthy state or an imbalanced state.

Dr. Oz and Kathy Freston: The Better Body in 30 Days

April 3rd, 2012

Dr. Oz invited Kathy Freston to appear on his show today to discuss her method for improving your health and the shape of your body in 30 days.

She began by making your ‘intention’ the highest priority that drives your behavior. Then gave four one week groupings for changing your body in one month.

Dr. Oz and Kathy Freston: Build a Better Body in 30 Days

She suggests that you ‘lean’ into the process and be gentle with your expectations.

The first week sees a change in breakfast with organic brown rice blended with almonds, dates, blue agave syrup, and other healthy ingredients like soy milk. Then the second week continues with a multiple vitamin/mineral supplement. She makes a point of hydration and feeling full when you drink plenty of water and healthy liquids. That second week gets you moving with a power walk.

During week three a person changes from artificial sweeteners to natural ones like blue agave syrup, stevia, and honey. You switch from sweets to fresh fruit. On the fourth week a person replaces one meat-based meal a day with a different source of protein – seitan, tofu, tempeh, or any number of vegetables, lentils, beans, grains, nuts, seeds, and combinations thereof.

She and Dr. Oz prepared a ‘no meat’ Philly Cheesesteak as an example of how delicious this can be. That’s the kicker! People will change what they eat when it tastes great.

Recipe for “No Meat Philly Cheesesteak”

I would replace the Worchestershire sauce with balsamic vinegar and tamari, plus I would find a way to incorporate even more flavor into this recipe for authenticity with some fresh basil and parsley. You can jazz up any recipe with healthy ingredients!

TheDoctorsTV and the Health of Your Lungs

April 3rd, 2012

The doctors talked about smoking, lung disease, aging skin, and other medical issues surrounding the health of the lungs.

TheDoctorsTV and the Health of Your Lungs

Your entire body is affected by the lack of oxygen getting into the bloodstream and being delivered to every cell. “The Breath of Life'” applies to each and every cell in your body.

Smoking is such a nasty habit and nicotine such an addictive drug that it is hard for many people to quit smoking even though they know it would be good for their health. One has to value their health over the habit to successfully terminate that behavior. It takes a lot of Will Power.

When you do quit smoking, you might notice that there are visible improvements in many aspects of your general health. Your complexion is more rosy and natural with improved circulation and tone. Your energy levels increase. There are little things that you wouldn’t even consider to be affected by smoking that change. You will find that you have a lot more time on your hands, now that you aren’t holding a cigarette for hours a day.

You’ll have your life back!

Even though it may seem like it’s the most difficult thing in the world to do: Stop Smoking.

In TCM, we find that the Lung meridian has been injured by ‘cold’ and tobacco is a ‘warming’ plant; so it’s only natural to be drawn to smoking tobacco as a way to resolve the imbalance in the Lung meridian. There are other plants and foods that can be helpful in the treatment for this imbalance without resorting to smoking…

Acupuncture has been shown to be instrumental in facilitating success when a person wants to quit smoking. It may take a number of appointments, but it does bring about a change that supports the willful intentions of the individual to quit.

We often wonder how to clear the lungs and soothe the tissue of the lungs. Air pollution, strong chemicals used in the workplace, particulate that causes inflammation, and so many other factors can irritate the delicate tissue. You can always move to the country. In lieu of that major transition, you can use natural approaches to clear the lungs. We like drinking Fenugreek Seed Tea and slicing Lotus Root for side dishes, soups, and salads. The Prince of Peace company makes a Honey Loquat Syrup that is very soothing for the throat and helps to dissolve phlegm.

There are excellent air filtration systems on the market now. Indoor air quality is just as important as it is outdoors, because of the time you spend at home. The use of natural cleaning products and household products lend to the health of your lungs. You can diffuse Essential Oils like Purification into a room to enhance the quality of the air that you breathe.

Whichever method you choose to take care of your lungs, just remember how important they are with every breath you take! Breathe deeply and nourish every cell in your body with life-sustaining oxygen and clean air.

Dr. Oz and Three Shopping Experts: The Redemption of Lisa Lynn

April 2nd, 2012

Lisa Lynn was among the three guests on Dr. Oz today to give shopping tips. She redeemed herself in my eyes when she mentioned eating real whole grains.

The other two experts offered their suggestions and Dr. Oz seemed to appreciate everyone’s contributions.

I cannot agree with Big Daddy about the chips and pretzels! He’s big on beef and other red meats, too, and he’s not the exemplary model of health that the two women more closely approximate.

Dr. Oz and Three Shopping Experts

One person made a horrific error when she suggested buying grass-finished beef. She did also include grass-fed beef, but it’s not enough to only finish the growth cycle with pasture grass! Big flaw there!

They didn’t mention which stores to shop at…that comes later. They did explain the value of baby Greens and stressed convenience over skill.

Do they know how easy it is to google recipes for Greens these days? Macrobiotic cooks prepare the best tasting Greens in my book.

Eventually Dr. Oz and his experts will shop at Whole Foods Markets, local Food Coops, and talk about CSAs. At some point, Dr. Oz could even have people on his show that actually grow their own food. Has he heard of them? They are called gardeners and ranchers and farmers.

Martha Stewart is light years ahead of these experts. Redemption for her came several years ago!

At least Lisa Lynn wasn’t trying to get you to shop for amino acids at the pharmacy in your grocery store. She’s back in my good graces after today.

Pink Slime Manufacturer Declares Bankruptcy: Good Riddance!

April 2nd, 2012

Our Food Supply is safer now that we will see the demise of the company that makes Pink Slime – or as I am now referring to it – Pink Death!

So long, AFA Foods, we’re glad to see you go!

They are not the victims of the media, they are the impoverished men and women who got caught ‘red-handed’ corrupting our beef for the sake of money.

These criminals deserve to be in prison or performing hard labor to make amends to those harmed by an inferior beef product, instead of only terminating their business that contributes to the degenerative diseases that cost Americans billions of dollars in medical care. These people should be forced to pay restitution to each person who consumed their contaminated Pink Slime product.

But at least with Bankruptcy, this puts an end to the future opportunities to compromise our beef. They have left a legacy of distrust, misplaced priorities, and unethical business practices. Good Riddance!

Pink Slime Company Declares Bankruptcy

They did this to themselves and have no one to blame except their own poor choices. We applaud the reporters, researchers, advocates, and scientists who were willing to expose the truth for the health of our children. We applaud the grocery stores who took this product off store shelves at the request of consumers. We applaud school district personnel who did not want this garbage in the school lunch program. We applaud the people who spoke out on this matter to bring about change.
