Dr. Oz and His Swimsuit Edition: Body Concept Illustrated

May 14th, 2012

I almost didn’t watch this episode of Dr. Oz. The ‘shallow’ pool of content about women in swimming suits just didn’t appeal to me to be all that important.

A woman’s body image does affect her self-concept and that will drive behaviors. Many of the women in the audience don;t look so great in their swimming attire and judge themselves when they put on a bathing suit.

Dr. Oz did make an effort to discuss self-confidence. Some of the women in the audience seemed to feel more confident after seeing other flabby bodies all in the same studio.

Dr. Oz Swimsuit Edition

We have a culture that has an ideal figure in bathing suits that come from beauty pageants that evaluate women as if they are cattle. The most shapely and often the most slender generally get the nod and are preferred. Women grow up with this in the recesses of their minds.

I do think that Dr. Oz gave some good ideas for slimming down to swim, sunbathe, or strut on a beach or pool this summer inn style.

His ice cubes with lemon juice and peppermint leaves was excellent. The green drinks, watermelon, salad greens, fruits like papaya, grapefruit juice with apple cider vinegar, and exercise ideas are going to help prepare the body to burn fat more efficiently and to digest food more completely.

Other than that there is a need for an expert swimming suit tailor to make suggestions to women about which suits are more form-fitting and flattering than others.

He could have also put greater emphasis on sunscreen and skin care when in the sun while out in the pool, on the ocean beaches, or actually swimming.

Dr. Oz and Chef Prepare Salmon with Healthy Oils

May 13th, 2012

This segment featured five healthy oils that you want in your diet with a dish to set an example for the audience.

Salmon was the healthy fish and here’s the recipe from the Dr. Oz website:

Salmon and Five Healthy Oils

Avocado, olive oil and olives, pistachios were all included to represent healthy oils from these food groups. I do not consider canola oil to be healthy – that’s my bias; but the recipe looks good.

Dr. Oz provided some of the best information in the history of his TV show today, because what was shared works!

Ayurvedic Medicine effectively solves the Weight management issues people face. The three doshas and the tastes are taken into consideration when designing a program for losing excess weight and stimulating the digestive system.

Dr. Oz and Lisa Lillien on Healthy Carb Meals

May 9th, 2012

Lisa – the perpetually-hungry girl from then
Food Network prepared some healthy versions of pasta dishes for Dr. Oz today.

He was amazed that carbs could be so tasty…

Dr. Oz and Healthy Meals Comprised of Carbs

If you are into counting carbs, then this show was for you. If you like pasta, this show’s for you. If you can’t control your dietary choices; then this show was for you.

Personally, I think that Lisa is obsessed with calorie-counting and that it takes precedence over healthy ingredients. She is willing to use American Cheese – gross – and uses a microwave. She is plagued by body-image, rather than pleased to eat healthy food for wellness. That compromises you in the end…

I adored the fact that the Food Network took Dr. Oz to the Test Kitchen. He got to see the cooking process in motion. He seemed to grasp the value of making familiar dishes from scratch.

He also invited Marcus, Gail, and Lydia to talk about their favorite meals that were healthy. Turkey meatballs, fish tacos, and other healthy dishes found their way to the stage.

It was a good day for the Dr. Oz show!

Dr. Oz and the Voting For Ten Transformation Nation Finalists Plus Appetite Suppression Ideas

May 7th, 2012

Dr. Oz introduced the ten top Finalists in his contest called Transformation Nation which resulted in a weight loss of three million pounds.

You can vote for your favorites on the Dr. Oz website. The winner receives one million dollars for their effort and success. It’s all relative and subjective, so their stories will hopefully transform your life as well.

Men and women, young and older, these ten all participated and are examples of the system that Dr. Oz used for weight loss in this contest.

Vote!

Dr. Oz was discussing appetite suppressants earlier in the show as if you would benefit from the attempt to manipulate the signals your body sends you that it needs to be nourished with food. There we go again…a doctor interfering in the natural process that is inherent to regulate appetite, hunger, satiation, and ultimately – the well-being of the body.

He went on a supplement and a food kick to artificially alter your appetite during the day. If you do all of this, when exactly are you going to have time to prepare and eat healthy meals and snacks through the day?

I have no problem with eating pine nuts, using grape seed oil, and including fennel; but to arbitrarily use them as tools is unfortunate. Yes, nibble on a variety of healthy nuts, dried fruit, and seeds. Coffee and healthy cookies have their place in the day, but they are not to be treated as an intervention tool. Glucomannan is highly over-rated… Rice noodles, mung bean noodles, soba noodles, and other whole grains are superior choices. here are the suggestions that Dr. Oz presented for you to review:

Dr. Oz Appetite Suppressants

You can chew your food longer and more completely which signals the brain when you’ve eaten enough. You can take smaller bites and swallow bites more often which also regulates the brain’s signals that you are full. You can sip a Miso Soup or include some fermented vegetables during your meal to provide enzymes that aid in digestion. Most of all…take your time when you eat to enjoy your meal. Conversation, pacing yourself rather than eating on the run, and sharing meals at family time really do work.

The more intelligent approach is to listen to your body and eat when you are hungry, quit eating when you feel satisfied, and honor your body’s wisdom. Cravings, bad habits, mindless eating, addictions, excessive portions, and all of the other weirdness fades away.

Weight management and body image are such relevant and important issues in our culture that doctors feel compelled to interfere as if it is a career. You simply need to return to a healthy Lifestyle that recognizes the value and place for your body to signal you correctly and fior you to be in alignment with total Well-Being.

What We Do To Prevent Whooping Cough and Lung Disease

May 7th, 2012

Breathing without effort is as natural as it gets. We know our heart beats on its own along with so many other autonomic functions that occur within the human body every moment of an entire lifetime.

But when breathing becomes laborious and you have to fight for each breathe, you will wish that you had known more about how to keep your lungs clear, working properly, and your immune system capable of warding off acute diseases like Whooping Cough or chronic diseases like Asthma.

People have no idea that processed foods contribute to inflammation and difficulty in breathing. Dairy products like cow’s milk and cheap cheese have been shown to create mucous and congestion, especially if there is a food sensitivity or allergy present. Foods that contain gluten like wheat bread, cereal, and pasta are also common culprits. Artificial ingredients will induce reactions and cause problems for the lungs, too. people whom return to a plant-based whole foods diet will resolve this situation.

There are natural methods and healthy products which clear and protect the lungs, both the function and the delicate tissue of the respiratory system.

Honey Loquat Syrup dissolves phlegm and soothes the throat irritated by a cough or an infection. Fenugreek Seed Tea clears the mucous and reduces inflammation and congestion. Slippery Elm lozenges sucked on will coat the throat. GSE mixed with purified water when gargled and swallowed will deal with the infection. There are other formulas and products that support the function of the immune system and strengthen the function of the lungs.

Essential Oils can be diffused and/or applied to help with breathing. Tapotement is often helpful to keep the lung clear and support lymphatic circulation. Even nibbling on Lotus Root chips or adding the root to soups and vegetable dishes will begin to clear the lungs and keep them clear.

There are acupuncture treatments for coughing spells and correlated health issues. Of, course, it’s imperative to stop smoking tobacco or being around those who smoke. Air filtration and purification systems change the internal home or office environment to rid the air of particulate, pollens, toxic chemicals, and other problems that complicate breathing freely. It takes a Lifestyle change to tackle all of these factors in a sufficient and comprehensive manner.

Lung disease can be and has been prevented by doing all of these things. People can also turn around weaknesses in their lungs by integrating lifestyle changes into their every day lives. The emotions of grief, guilt, and sadness affect the lung energetically. One of the most ignored factors in keeping lungs healthy is environmental. When you live in a city that is polluted and do not get fresh air all the time, you set up the conditions for weakening the lungs. You must be willing to move or visit the mountains or other places in Nature where there’s fresh air to breathe.

Distracted Drivers: The Road at Risk

May 7th, 2012

I was listening to some of the stories about ‘distracted driving’ on TheDoctorsTV show this morning and it occurred to me that my generation would rarely have made ‘attention’ to driving such a weighted issue in our day.

We didn’t need to be on the phone texting all the time, we didn’t need to rush here and there to make it through a busy schedule for the day. We paced our existence in a more balanced and natural way.

We were more conscious drivers. We took being on the road more seriously. We were responsible. This last three generations have not lived up to these standards and put everyone on the road at risk.

TheDoctorsTV and Distracted Driving

The doctors pointed out what long-term medical consequences face people who are injured in car accidents. Teens should be exposed to these outcomes before being allowed to drive, to know why the rules of the road apply to one and all. They should be taken to the sight of an accident and observe what death, destruction, injury, and harm really are… It needs to sink in before they get behind the wheel.

If they get introduced to the challenges of driving while under the influence of alcohol, recreational drugs, pharmaceutical drugs, and even too many energy drinks, that can alter the incidence of accidents and change behavioral choices. Young people need more training about driving in extreme weather conditions and in road etiquette prior to having a set of keys in their hands.

You can learn more about the medical risks at TheDoctorsTV, but there’s no substitute for local education, training, and driving preparation. If you see a teen texting in the car, take a moment to talk about this subject like they did on “Glee”. Furthermore, no driver should own a device unless they are committed to putting it away while driving. Nothing is as important as a safe ride that reaches the destination and there’s nothing that cannot wait! No excuses.

No eating in the car. No drinking in the car. No reason to take your eyes off the road in front of you. No reason not to stop and rest when tired. Basics are basics for obvious reasons! Then there are the absurd things like applying make-up, changing clothes, having sex, doing business deals on the phone, and any other ridiculous activity that distracts a driver.

Whole Living: More Than That as a Lifestyle

May 6th, 2012

Definitions may vary, but Whole Living implies more than that…it suggests an entire Lifestyle.

We used to participate in “Whole Being” Weekend events in California. I would offer one or two classes or workshops and one group activity. it was a wonderful personal growth opportunity that was a part of a group experience.

Whole Beings were thought to be well-rounded individuals. They have diligently worked on improving every aspect of their lives.

Martha Stewart named her magazine Whole Living as a reflection of her Good Living concept.

She covers material from crafts to food to fashion to home to work – and beyond. Gardening, health, and so many more lifestyle choices are parts of being a ‘whole’ person.

Whole Living Magazine

This is a good place to begin to learn about living as a ‘Whole Being”.
