Dr. Oz Commented Upon Goji Berries – What Are Goji?
What are Goji Berries and why did Dr. Oz make a comment about them on Oprah’s TV show about Men’s health issues?
We were wondering how long it would take for the mainstream public and even well-informed M.D.s to learn about the vital importance of Goji Berries! It’s been several years…
But finally…Dr. Oz even spelled out “goji” for the viewers who were asking questions about men’s health issues and what they could do to improve their health with food and natural supplements while discussing anti-oxidants.
Goji Berries are very common to those of us trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Tibetan Healing Practices; having incorporated these luscious little dried berries into many herbal formulations to tonify Yin and the energetic foundation of the Lung, Kidney, and Liver meridians. We learned to refer to them by the more traditional name of “wolfberries” for the sweet dried ruby red berries or Lycium root bark or leaf for tea and other preparation methods.
Personally…the beautiful name “Ningxia” is the most common nomenclature that identifies the region of China where the medicinal application originated and the goji berries were primarily grown.
We used to set out the dried goji berries in our displays of herbs for formulas in our Bio-Energetic Medicine and Lifestyle Therapy classes and seminars in the 1980’s in California, Utah, Colorado, and Canada. Now you can find them sold separately in stores and online as well as several MLM companies. Ideally, goji berries should be a part of an individualized herbal formulation, rather than taken alone. However, there is one beverage that I feel is suitable for daily consumption which I will give a Link for at the end of this post.
