Dr. Oz and TheDoctorsTV: Minerals, Whole Foods, and Maintaining Your Health

TheDoctorsTV show often features foods and new recipe ideas to make some of your family’s favorite foods healthier for your children. Today was one of those days, but I was disappointed that anyone would try to deceive a child about the relative healthiness of any meal.

You can’t fool Mother Nature and you should never attempt to fool your own children when it comes to disclosing the facts about the food your family is eating. It’s important that your children hear the truth from you, so they continue to trust you. If you lie to them about the food that they put into their bodies everyday; then how do you expect them to trust you about being honest when you discuss anything else?

Kids know if a food is whole and healthy or processed and questionable! If you feel that you have to lie to your children to get them to eat foods that are healthy, you need to get some professional council. Human Beings want to be well, they don’t start as young children to sabotage this basic human drive. It’s people who would lie to children to get them to eat some dish that are setting up the conditions to compromise themselves. Refuse to use this deceitful tactic….tell the truth instead.

Tell your children that you are going to swap out the turkey burger for the hamburger and tell them about the problems associated with obesity and heart disease. But don’t follow that ridiculous recipe on TheDoctorsTV show for Turkey Meatballs. Use an egg and oatmeal instead of bread crumbs to hold the meatballs together. Bread crumbs are not very healthy, if you are trying to make your balls better! You don’t need to use parmesan cheese to add flavor. Use sea salt, spices, and herbs to flavor your meatballs. Garlic, thyme, oregano, and parsley are excellent choices for pasta with meatballs.

You can replace the pasta with a whole grain dish with turkey meatballs. You might want to consider making a vegetable dish with real whole vegetables, instead of attempting to hide carrots, tomatoes, or other veggies in a pasta sauce. It’s not really a problem to add veggies to a sauce, it’s just disingenuous to try to disguise our wonderful vegetables. You simply need a couple of cooking classes to know how to make vegetables delicious. You can watch the Food Network and get an education about vegetable, whole foods, and whole grains on that show… Furthermore, Martha Stewart is doing more for organic and natural whole foods than ever before, so visit her website or watch her shows on TV. You DO want to learn how to maintain your health by eating well, don’t you? Of, course, you do!

You need to be careful when you take the advice of physicians who don’t spend that much time in the kitchen. Dr. Jim seems to have more experience than the others…listen to him. Dr. Travis appears to be moving toward healthier eating habits, too.

Dr. Oz is doing a much better job of bringing in guest experts that are preparing healthier foods on his show, but he has a long way to go. His tips in the kitchen are OK, but he could encourage you to make better choices with more whole foods, organic foods, and dishes that will help you maintain your health while you expand your horizons with truth to replace the lies of the companies who have confused family cooks with their plethora of processed foods. Go back to the garden and revisit whole foods with zest!
