Dr. Oz recently told his audience that it’s better to eat sauerkraut instead of cabbage to protect their bodies from developing cancer and other degenerative diseases.

Dr. Oz and Your Appendix

Neither Oz nor the physicians know much about fermented food in the kitchen, but at least they all respect the old traditions from Europe and Asia which have been using these foods for thousands of years. People relied upon foods for their well-being when there were no physicians to provide for their medical needs.

Fermentation is also a good food preservation technique. You can’t grow cabbage or cucumbers year around in many climates, so you have to rely upon canning or pickling to preserve what remains from the harvest.

Different civilizations have come up with some unique ways to create flavorful fermented foods like Kimchi and pickles, amasake and yogurt, and vegetables that will store for a long time or offer a textural component to any meal.

Purchase Organic Cultured Vegetables.

The ecology of your body’s internal environment is supported by fermented foods and there’s really no substitute for repopulating the digestive tract with beneficial flora. Your appendix is not the only method for achieving this task and the consumption of fermented foods provides fabulous food for fun ways to get what your body needs for wellness.

Some of the fun is in the drinking of wine, beer, and cider; but we’ll discuss the fermented beverages another day. We depend upon regular introductions of fermented foods for keeping our digestive system and our immune system healthy and strong. Even vinegar, some sausages, and leavened bread rely upon fermentation in their preparation. Most types of foods can be preserved through fermentation and if you want to read more about it, the wikipedia site is an excellent resource for the basics.
