Dr. Oz and The Best Time of the Day to Diet, Eat, and Weigh Yourself

Dr. Oz told his audience that the time when a person does things actually makes a difference for weight loss and management on today’s show.

He reminded people that the average American gets up around 6:30 a.m. in the morning. It’s that time when it is best to weigh your body on a scale every day for consistency. You most likely will weigh less than you would for the rest of the day and evening in the morning when you first wake up.

So if you weight yourself the first thing in the morning after getting out of bed, you are going to find out what your weight is doing month after month with greater accuracy.

You can find more out about the advice on this topic at the De. Oz website here:

Doctor Oz

After you are done weighing yourself and being pleased or disappointed with the change in pounds that you carry; you are going to engage in some form of exercise for better results in getting your body in shape. Most people are not going to make time for exercise this early in the day, because they are getting ready for work. You can do this on weekends or when you get a day off from work instead and find a time after work during the week to fit in at least a half hour walk or some other form of exercise.

I did not like the advice that Dr. Oz shared after this. He told people to drink a glass of ice cold water to lose a pound a year. Look, people, ice cold water shocks the stomach and the digestive system. It has to expend energy to return the cold liquid to body temperature which is what is going to burn calories, but it is still a shock to the body and not the best way to burn a few calories daily.

My advice to you is to drink your water and other beverages at room temperature or as hot tea. Once you experience the difference that this makes in the way your stomach feels, you won’t insult your body by throwing freezing drinks down into your tummy. You need to develop a healthy respect for your body and choose not to compromise your health for the sake of caloric extrapolation. There are dozens of other better ways to burn a few calories that are helpful to your body!

If you still insist on drinking cold beverages with ice or a frosty glass direct from the refrigerator; then at least have some food or beverage in your stomach that was ingested at room temperature or a little higher. It’s not good to drink your tea or coffee or hot chocolate too hot either. Remember balance and moderation in all things…

Next…the good doctor suggested that people eat within an hour of awakening. Then it is advised that a person eats about every four to five hours throughout the day. Dr. Oz cautioned people not to eat closer to bedtime than three hours. He also warned people that if they wait too long between meals to eat again, they might be more likely to cheat by eating junk food. I am certain this happens all the time for a lot of people.

Instead of letting desperation and hunger rule your choices, carry a healthy snack around with you or have some stashed at home or at work. Then you won’t have any excuse for not being able to give your body the healthiest food possible to maintain your health and satisfy your hunger. Nuts, seeds, snack bars, and healthy candies like ginger root chews make good choices possible.

You should shop when you have the time to select healthy foods from the local market and go home to take care of your fresh produce. Dr. Oz thinks that you should shop in the morning around 10:00, but what do you do if you are working or busy with other errands that are far from the store? I recommend that you carefully plan your Shopping List and find a suitable time in your personal schedule to shop and gather everything you might need for the day and any items that will be prepared for the week that won’t spoil like dried goods.

Italians and other cultures from the Mediterranean often shop for fresh produce every day. That’s what we do! Then you will satisfy your hunger for what you are wanting to eat, instead of a contrived weekly menu and you will get the freshest produce available in the marketplace. Your herbs, salad greens, dark leafy greens, fruit, and vegetables can be purchased this way daily. Your dried beans, legumes, whole grains, seaweed, and many spices can be purchased in bulk to last for months and supplemented as needed. Also…when you are buying fresh nuts, you want to make sure that they are not rancid and that they are the freshest nuts available. Don’t buy canned nuts, buy them from the bulk bins instead…

If you take nutritional supplements or herbal elixirs, you can find out what time is ideal for your body by using the EAV evaluation. It varies for each individual. If you don’t have access to this equipment, then half an hour before meals might make the most sense up to fifteen minutes before you eat with enough fluids to break down the tablets, dissolve the capsules, and rehydrate the raw materials sufficiently.

Rather than taking a fiber supplement as Dr. Oz suggests, you can find a few minutes during the day to actually eat a whole food that is high in fiber! Now…we understand that is a novel approach! LOL Your body will thank you for eating a food, instead of resorting to a fiber supplement. Most people don’t drink enough water with fiber supplements and you don’t want to waterlog your body before dinner or bedtime either. Surely a whole food source of fiber will be more enjoyable!

Even though I am telling you to use whole foods to get your fiber, some of you will resort to a supplement; so you might as well get one of the best brands on the market. There are even fiber supplements for kids in the form of Gummy Bears. You will find what you are looking for with a wide selection from HerbTrader by just doing a Search for Fiber Supplements:

Over 8,000 organic, natural, and eco-friendly products

The time that you do things does matter! Humans have their own internal clocks that regulate metabolism and bodily functions. In TCM, we pay attention to the bio-energetic cycles in two hour periods when the Chi or energy flows through specific meridians, organs, and systems. The body is amazing and when you are in harmony with your cycles, you will enjoy greater health and well-being.
