Dr. Oz and Stress Busters: Bad Advice Increases Stress Factors for the Poorly Informed Audience
Dr. Oz just told his audience that a whole grain cereal with orange juice and milk was going to be the best breakfast to reduce stress and he is wrong…that’s ‘bad advice’. The body will be stressed even more when the interference between grains, citrus fruit juice, and milk compete for digestive enzymes. This food combination is horrendous and will increase the stress level. Don’t listen to this nonsense!
The only thing Oz did right was to give a Spa Day to the person who gave the wrong answers to the stress test! Bodywork and massage therapy do alleviate stress when provided by well-trained professionals. However, if you are uncomfortable with the type of massage or the personality of the massage therapist, it can increase your stress. You can change the type of massage you get and change the therapist until you find a technique and a therapist that truly delivers the relief from stress and the rejuvenation of your body and disposition.
Walnuts are fine, but they are not the best stress busters for you to choose as your ‘go-to’ food for stress. If you have to select one whole food that is your ideal stress busting delight, it has to be a seaweed salad with veggies, toasted sesame oil, tamari, and hiziki seaweed. You can rotate different types of seaweed, but include one healthy oil, sesame seeds, chopped vegetables, spices like ginger root, and scallions. You can even sprinkle chopped nuts on your seaweed salad should you feel that you must have nuts in something that you eat. But play with cashews, almonds, pine nuts, and brazil nuts.
Whole grain dishes are also better for stress than cereal or bread or pasta. They contain more of the B vitamin complex when the grains have not been processed. Vegetables and greens also provide nutrients which help your body deal with stress. Soups and stews that are made from vegetable stock are going to be more substantial than most choices for lunch and dinner.
The best method for stress busting is to eliminate the sources of stress. Your attitude is your first line of defense. You can decide to be resilient, impervious, and immune to factors that are considered stressful.
