Dr. Oz is helping yet another motivated individual find his way toward a healthy Lifestyle with Rocco’s assistance. The Food Plans are going to bring weekly changes which will eventually lead to life-long healthy eating patterns that are fully integrated into a person’s Lifestyle. That’s the real Change that makes a difference!
It’s all about more than losing a few pounds, dieting for a few weeks here and there, and altering a few foods in your diet occasionally for a short period of time. It’s about an entire Lifestyle Change that gives you a new lease on Life…for the rest of your Life! You make these subtle and profound changes to live long and prosper…
A person can half-heartily diet for a couple of days or weeks and then they often go back to their old habits and lose what was gained. Only lasting and thoughtful changes in the years and decades ahead will make an impact on your health to improve it gradually and maintain the improvements. It’s a journey of a thousand steps and Dr. Oz was wise in helping this fellow begin with simple weekly steps that don’t demand major changes that are impossible for the average person who has developed bad habits. Any time a change is made, it takes some adjustment. You will do better to allow for that time to adjust to what is new and different, incorporating it gently into your regular routine and Lifestyle.
I find it very useful to put a stop to the pasta and the other foods that are such a challenge for most people. Pasta is fine when it is home-made and vegetables with seasoning is added along with other healthy ingredients which help the body metabolize the carbs in the grain. So many people are lazy when it comes to pasta and settle for a little red sauce or alfredo and even forget the nutmeg! Pasta is better when combined with fresh herbs, spices, veggies, shrooms, lemon zest, and other goodies that add nutrition and fiber.
It takes a lot of dedication to make the switch to raw foods when there is no creativity in the way they are prepared. There are some excellent recipe books and MeetUp events in large cities where you can sample raw food dishes and learn more about the reasons for adopting up to 85% raw foods in your regular dietary regimen. You’ll feel the difference immediately!
The concept of grazing…or eating every couple of hours will make it easier when you don’t have skills in the kitchen to make full meals with new ingredients and whole foods. Grazing with healthy snacks takes that edge off the transition from junk food and fast food to whole foods. You can take small amounts of things like dried fruit, nuts, seeds, and fresh fruit and vegetables and experiment with the variations of seasonings.
For instance, you can toast your sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds and add sea salt for a fast snack. If you want to jazz up those same seeds, add cayenne, turmeric, cumin, and a little tamari to the toasting process. If you want some nuts to snack on that are sweet, you can toast some walnuts or pecans and add maple syrup and orange zest. Use your imagination and play with your food!
Change will come and it will become more and more natural when you make gradual steps in the healthy direction of whole foods. One change at a time, adjust and get used to it; then make yet another change and incorporate that into your daily and weekly and monthly routine. You will be pleasantly surprised after six months at how much your preferences and tastes have changed…and you’ll be proud of your progress.
