Dr. Oz and Healthy Berries: Blue, Red, Purple, and Black Berries

Doctor Oz loves Blueberries…

Virtually every episode of his Emmy award-winning TV show mentions the health benefits of Blueberries. If there’s one berry in the world that Dr. Oz prizes the most, it is most definitely the berry that is blue!

We adore Blueberries, too. We’ve been eating them for more than fifty years! We’ve even planted our own Blueberry bushes. They are magical and the health value is enormous.

Fresh organic Blueberries are MUCH better than frozen berries and worlds apart from a cooked or stewed berry. If you can find fresh local Blueberries; then add these wonderful berries to smoothies, whole grain dishes, granola, fruit salads, and on top of soy ice cream, coconut yogurt, or fruit sorbet.

If you cannot find fresh organic Blueberries; then by all means get organic frozen Blueberries. If you must, cook them with muffins, cobbler, pies, tarts, and other baked goods. Here’s my favorite thing to do with the lovely Blueberry:

Make some amasake pudding with almond milk. Take your fresh organic Blueberries and reserve half of them as a garnish for topping the amasake pudding. Now take the remainder of the Blueberries and add them to the blender with enough purified water to make a thick mixture. Blend in either honey, maple syrup, rice syrup, dates or date sugar, or organic cane sugar to sweeten to taste. Add a pinch of sea salt. Blend until all the ingredients are incorporated for one or two minutes. Place the mixture into a saucepan and simmer it until it is thick. Use this reduction to pour on your amasake pudding and then plop some of the fresh Blueberries right on top! You have now entered the Berry Bliss Zone!

Blueberries are loaded with anti-oxidants and pigments known as anthocyanins which lend color to red and purple fruit. If you want to learn a little more about the magnificence of Blueberries, visit the website of Chefs A’field. They recently aired an episode that took people to pick the berries and then into the kitchen to prepare them in both savory and sweet dishes.

The Blueberry is an incredibly powerful food for maintaining your health, but it’s not the only BERRY in town! We love our other colorful berries, too. We encourage you to eat a variety of berries regularly. They all make excellent dried fruit morsels when they are out of season. Most berries also freeze well and you will always be satisfied with the Wild Organic Berries from VitalChoice.

Strawberries are often the first berry to be ready to eat. They will give red and pink hues to your smoothies and they are delightful when dipped in organic dark chocolate or organic nut butters. We actually hollow out the area where the stem is and fill the crevice with a hazelnut chocolate spread for a bite of heaven… These red jewels are rich in vitamin C and fiber. Along with ellagic acid and the anthocyanins, they are also a source of manganese and potassium. It’s better to bite this delicious red berry than to use artificial strawberry flavoring in ice cream or yogurt. Go fresh…go organic!

The other red Berry is the illustrious Raspberry. It is delicate, so if you don’t get the freshest berries from your local Farmer’s Markets or CSA; then you might as well buy frozen Organic Raspberries from VitalChoice.

Then we come to our purple and black berries. These Blackberries have the highest levels of anti-oxidants in the world of Berry. They are rich in flavor and succulent in many recipes.

VitalChoice will supply you with the frozen Organic Berries individually or as a combination of all four kinds of berries. You’ll notice the difference from other brands in the vitality of the flavor and the texture of these berries. You can get organic dried Cranberries and Blueberries from VitalChoice as well as dried Cherries, Apricots, and Mango.

When you visit your local Farmer’s Markets or specialty store, look for boysenberries, gooseberries, loganberries, and even the rare marionberries. If you’ve ever wanted to dress up a pancake or a waffle with a fruit syrup; there’s nothing quite as wonderful as marionberry syrup!

Have a very berry good day!
