DoctorsTV and Healthy Food Choices…Yes, Eat This, But Not That!
I love episodes of theDoctorsTV when they get on the healthy foods bandwagon and give their audience good advice about nutritional choices for whole foods.
Today…the tofu that tastes like seafood, the replacement of tartar sauce with lemon/vinegar, and the substitution of olive oil and balsamic vinegar with bread at your restaurant all are excellent recommendations from our doctors.
Being Italian, I was most impressed when Dr. Jim mentioned balsamic vinegar and olive oil as the healthy way to enjoy your bread…whether at home or eating out at your local establishment, that balsamic vinegar is simply delicious and healthy. It almost makes it plausible to eat a slice of bread…
I have been smearing avocado on my sandwiches and tortillas for decades and never missed the mayo. Especially when you are eating sandwiches which require a spread to hold things inside the two slices of bread or the panini; then avocado spread or tofu spread or hummus works extremely well. Tomatoes, feta, basil leaves, and slices of bacon go very nicely together with avocado. If you need a substitute for the mayo, then aoli made from olive oil is preferable, unless you can find a soy mayonnaise at the health food store.
Dr. Jim goes bananas and that’s a smart idea! Not only does it help to regulate weight as was suggested, it supplies important nutrients while tasting delicious. We love to dip our fresh organic bananas in organic chocolate or carob sauce. If you want to get really fancy, dip the banana in chocolate sauce and then into chopped nuts. You can also make a spread of peanut butter or cashew butter and blend it with honey or agave syrup; then spread this concoction on your banana for a real taste treat! You may not lose as much weight as quickly, but it does encourage you to eat this…not that other stuff that is not nearly as healthy for you.
I am going to make this post short, but I will add to it tomorrow. I had meetings all day long, so I will make more time to comment on this tomorrow. Please come back and I promise to give you an eye full! LOL
