Doctors Oz and Shaving, Deodorant, and Cancer Risks

The doctors discussed the idea that the use of deodorant which contains aluminum and other synthetic chemicals and fragrances might lead to toxic conditions in the axillary lymphatic vessels and possibly lead to breast cancer. Although there is little research studying this health risk, the concern has garnered a lot of attention for several decades.

We have seen numerous healthy deodorants using natural ingredients appear following the development of wanting an alternative to standard deodorants and anti-perspirants which are viewed as incompatible with a healthy Lifestyle come into the market over the years. We also like the deodorant crystal that has been succesfully used for many years. Most of us who have had two or three decades of using these alternatives are extremely satisfied and are free of cancer in our breasts, lymph, and lungs.

Shaving one’s underarms and legs also was discussed with differing perceptions of the practice. Shaving cuts the delicate skin and can introduce bacteria and other pathogens into the tissue and the blood from this archaic practice. There are so many good options that replace razors or shavers which do not cut nor do they irritate the skin. Even cougars (women) are being shown on TV using these alternatives with all the laughs that come with the quick pull of the sticky tape. But the obvious question remains…

Why remove this axillary hair in the first place? Is it only our attitude that makes it seem stylish that demands shaving this part of the anatomy? Is there any real valid medical reason for shaving and hair removal.

Let’s look at European women and men. When I spend a summer in Europe in 1973 it became clear to me that both the women and the men didn’t expect the women to shave their pits. It’s a cultural phenomena. They are quite comfortable with hair there…

So it’s a style, not a health issue. The choice is yours. Hair wicks away moisture and allows evaporation naturally creating a healthy environment in the armpit area. If you wear clothing, who would notice expect you and your intimate partners? If you wear swimwear or sleeveless clothing; then it is a matter of personal choice about appearance and acceptance among one’s peers.

Personally, I have watched many women over the decades and those who do not use synthetic deodorants and those who do not shave and those who do not wear a bra…are typically free of cancer in this portion of the body and the lymphatic system is healthier than their cohorts.

If you are one of the individuals who insist upon using deodorant, then use a natural one. If you insist upon shaving; then use Lavender Essential Oils to soothe the tissue after you finish shaving your underarms or your legs. You may also benefit directly from lymphatic drainage with a qualified Massage Therapist or Bodyworker who is trained to perform this work to support the lymph in its function. Gentle stretching is also highly recommended along with working on your range of motion for your arms and legs.

Cancer risks do exist and even a miniscule quantity of a bacteria or viral agent can mutate healthy cells into abnormal cells as can synthetic chemicals found in many cosmetics, lotions, potions, and creams. If you really want to be prudent, then don’t take that inherent risk. It’s a simple matter to switch over to natural products which contain organic ingredients which improve the skin and don’t cause any damage. They smell wonderful and they feel good.

An alkaline diet has been shown to change the health of many people who share their stories of reversing degenerative diseases and getting an ‘all-clear’ from cancer after changing their diet to whole foods which balance the acid/alkaline factors in the body. It has been reported to reduce inflammation, lead to one’s ideal weight, improve one’s emotional and mental state of Being, and enhance many aspects of one’s sense of well-being. Food Combining is a topic that deserves attention and the incorporation of the principles and practices into one’s Lifestyle. Balance is the key!

One other small comment about high heels for children that the doctors mentioned showing pictures of Suri Cruise. I have watched sweet and adorable Suri since she was born and only recently has she appeared wearing both flats and heeled shoes in photos with both parents. While I feel that the practice of wearing shoes with heels will distort the spine and impact the nerves, bone, tendon, ligaments, and musculature of the legs, feet, and hips; it depends upon the length of time high heels are worn and how a person walks and carries themselves in any footwear which determines if the damage is lasting or temporary. Foot Massage and Bodywork is gladly encouraged if you wear heels or any type of shoe that is unnatural. Your footwear is one of the most important choices you can make to keep your skeletal and nervous system in good shape. Shoes matter!

Be sure to remember to spend time walking barefoot on the grass or real soil whenever you get the chance. Take off your shoes at the door when you enter your home and get regular foot massages. The beginning and endings of many meridians are located on the toes and energy flows through the feet, ankles, legs, and it’s vitally important that this flow is not interrupted by weird shoes, tight clothing, and unnatural gear.
