Doctors and Oz on Home Remedies: Apple Cider Vinegar, Papaya Oatmeal Masks, and Vodka Soaks

We have been thrilled to see that the audiences for theDoctorsTV and Dr. Oz want to know what the medical experts think about Home Remedies that the family experts have been using for centuries. It’s always interesting to see where experience meets education!

On today’s show, Dr. Jim gets the gold star of the day for describing his own personal use of Apple Cider Vinegar to clean surfaces in his home and using it as an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial substance. Experience shows this to be accurate and effective!

We also like the use of Vinegar for supporting the body’s ability to find an acid/alkaline balance in the digestive system. This helps so many things from burping to hick-ups to nausea to general distress in the tummy. It’s OK to drink a little straight, but it can be a little too strong this way; so we prefer to recommend that the vinegar be combined with olive oil or a fresh organic sunflower or safflower oil along with sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, roasted garlic cloves, and a squeeze of fresh organic lemon to make a light, yet totally refreshing salad dressing that can be used on salad, vegetables, or whole grain and bean dishes.

You can also marinate tofu and tempeh in this mixture and you’ll get the benefit of the vinegar with the taste and nutrients of the whole foods. You can vary this blend with mustard, ginger, balsamic vinegar, cayenne, and other spices to jazz up the flavor for use on foods.

If you do want to experiment with Apple Cider Vinegar for skin blemishes, bruises, or minor burns…or for fungal or bacterial applications on any surface; then we recommend that you use a spray bottle to spritz the vinegar on the target area. You will find this to be better than a cotton ball or other method of application.

You can also blend baking soda with vinegar as the doctors did in the bathtub. It will fizz and you need to be ready for the science experiment of the rising fizz if you use it in the bath. The fizz bubbles for a few seconds and then settles down. This helps with restoring the acid/alkaline balance.

We have used the tomato juice to get rid of the odor of skunks for our dogs. I would rather use Essential Oils to open and cleanse the pores in a bath or on the skin directly. There are gentle products that are natural that are ready to go, or else you can combine your own favorite ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs and place the mixtures into tins or glass containers. Oatmeal and other whole grain flakes, coconut oil, herbs, and other raw materials work well in the tub or for facials.

The Oatmeal Papaya mask that the doctors painted on works just as well. If you cannot find fresh papaya in your local grocery store, then you can use papaya juice to blend with the oatmeal as long as it has not been processed with heat. We prefer the Dead Sea Mud masks that have natural ingredients that nourish and exfoliate the skin just as well, if not better than oatmeal alone. It’s also a good idea to use the Essential Oil of Helichrysum to initiate renewed skin cell growth and replacement of those that you are removing with the masks.

Dr. Oz featured a black tea bath to soak one’s feet if they sweat excessively, while the doctors dazzled their audience by adding Vodka to a foot bath to quell the smell of foot odors. Both methods work, although a good Vodka is going to make your foot bath more expensive, especially if you toast to your feet with a mixed drink. There are some new Vodkas now that are flavored with herbs, flowers, and other unique ingredients to WOW the crowd. We wonder how good it would feel to combine Vodka with Tea for a super foot bath bonanza!

We would like to draw your attention to Burt’s Bees which has a lovely foot cream that you can use after your vodka or tea bath to moisturize your feet. A good foot massage goes a long way to improving your overall general health as well as feeling wonderful. Find a local Massage Therapist or Foot Reflexologist who can provide you with excellent treatments that will contribute to your wellness.

First of all I’d like to say, well written article! I’ve got a small question bothering me, I really love the theme of your site and tried to download the same design on my WP site. However, there is some kind of weird php error in the footer. Do you have any hints, which settings are you using? Please PM me on Twitter @HealthNSweets or via e-mail.

We always enjoy reading your posts, i just used the website Swap my Seeds, as a way of giving away my unused seeds. Anyone know what I can sell them for? I have maybe 250 lobelia seeds left.
