Looking for Some Fun in the Sun for the 4th of July? It’s Made in Nature!

When you are making healthy choices to find delicious snacks to nibble on while enjoying your outings over the 4th of July, try some dried fruit from Made in Nature. The mango dried fruit is definitely my favorite! You can find Made in Nature Dried Fruit packages in most health food stores and specialty food stores like Whole Foods.

The Made in Nature blog has some 4th of July recipes that you can use and adapt to your special celebratory needs and desires. You can add dried fruit to so many snacks and dishes, just use your imagination. I also love to dice tiny pieces and add them to my ginger ice cream made from coconut milk and fresh ginger root and natural sweeteners.

When I owned my natural foods restaurant, I designed a special dessert for such fun occasions. It is called the “Six Gun Fruit Salute”. Take soft frozen yogurt or any healthy ice cream like the Soy Delicious Chocolate Velvet and fill the bottom of a parfait glass with one or two scoops. Then take some morsels of dried fruit and a sprinkling of chopped nuts like cashews or walnuts and spread a layer over the scoops of ice cream or yogurt. Next add a layer of organic chocolate syrup and another layer of nuts. Next add two more scoops of ice cream or yogurt. Then create another layer of fresh ripe organic fruit, especially strawberries, blueberries, mango, papaya, pineapple, or raspberries. Then another layer of yogurt or ice cream and finally a finishing layer of pieces of a variety of dried fruits and nuts. It’s beautiful, it has red, white, and blue to signify the 4th of July colors of our national flag and it will make you smile with each bite!
