Dr. Oz Could Suggest Better Alternatives for Potato Chips
Dr. Oz confronted a woman about her penchant for eating potato chips every day on this episode.
He offered a change to pita chips as an alternative, but we want to give you healthier choices which we think you will find to be better alternatives, especially when you taste the difference!
Taro Root Chips, Sweet Potato Chips, Beet Chips, and Carrot Chips are all delicious, crunchy, salty and salty-sweet, and what’s even unique is that they are pretty! Pretty colorful and interesting…
It’s not that you really need for your snacks to look great, but when you examine the intricate fibers that make artistic patterns in the Taro Root Chips; you might just be fascinated with your food. Play with your food…we encourage it.
These are far healthier choices than pita chips. Most pita chips are made with flour, salt, water, and sometimes either oil or even lard. Do you want lard coursing through your veins? I didn’t think so. What’s worse is that most of the commercially available pita chips are not well-seasoned and you will end up dunking them in salsa or bean dip or surrendering to nachos with cheese and sour cream for too many additional calories and more FAT.
That’s not going to work for you!
You may have to go to a couple of stores or shop in your local Food Co-op to find these healthy Chips. But they are worth the trip to the store! You can find organic and delicious dips to go with your healthy Chips here:
These healthy Chips take a little longer to chew and you’ll be more satisfied when eating fewer chips in total. But this is a no-guilt snack filled with fiber and nutrients. Go git em’!
If you can’t find these puppies easily, then look for Barbara’s natural Cheese Puffs without artificial color, but with all the flavor of real cheese. They are mostly air, but they are better than oily, greasy chips. There are Rice Chips, Granola Bars, and a bunch of healthy bars and chews that are perfect substitutes for chips. We adore the Reed’s Ginger Chews. Perky, tangy, yet chewy and sweet! Wow!
However, Kettle Chips are pretty good chips, especially the flavored selections like the Sea Salt and Vinegar, the Dijon Mustard, and the Yogurt and Green Onion masterpieces. You really want to have more than just chips, making better pairings with bean dips, guacamole, salsa, and gourmet dips from Frontier and Simply Organic.
Better yet, make your own chips with a healthier oil. You just use a mandarin and slice the potato or other vegetable evenly in thin slices, add them to the oil and immediately use sea salt and other seasonings right after they come out of the hot oil nicely golden brown and fresh – no rancid oil in these beauties!
The smart thing to do with Chips is to set out a small bowl and put a handful of chips along with some organic black bean dip or organic refried beans in to add some desirable fiber to go along with the chips. Don’t take the whole bag of chips with you to sit in front of the TV or the computer, because you will be far more likely to finish off the entire bag if you eat from it. Eating from a bowl limits the amount you’ll scarf down in the long run.
