Dr. Oz Recognizes the Value of Nurses: They Do So Much More Than You Might Imagine
Nurses are the unsung heroes in the hospitals, clinics, and health care facilities that do more than you might imagine in the care of the patients and the management of the doctor’s cases.
Dr. Oz recognized nurses on his show today. The nurses shared their best tips that they had to offer which changes the quality of health care a patient receives while under the care of the medical profession.
Dr. Oz and the Value of Nurses
In some cases, the nurses are the front line and primary care givers who know the patient inside and out. They often catch things that the absent doctor misses. They have long shifts and learn directly about the care and feeding of each patient.
The opinions of nurses in their profession varies and Dr. Oz explored a lot of this territory. The most profound statement was one made by one nurse about health care being more than medicine, so don’t dismiss alternative therapeutic methods like massage, oils, and other types of care.
Some of the nurses offered some home health care tips and ideas. One of which was the use of a cabbage leaf over a wound to draw out the exudate. You can find more of these tips here:
While nurses don’t specialize in the same way that many doctors do, they are attentive to the specific needs of a patient and they are often more capable of watching for signs of progress or distress to alert the physicians of the changes in any patient’s status.
One of the last tips that I want to bring to your attention was that it is sometimes futile to speak with busy nurses on their shifts while they are trying to provide care, administer medication, or attend to other duties. The best time to talk to the nurses is at 3:00 p.m. or 3:00 a.m. according to one of the nurses on the show. Nursing care is an essential component of professional health care that cannot be overlooked or dismissed lightly. Ya gotta love those nurses…
