Dr. Oz and Dr. Andrew Weil: The Spontaneous Happiness Plan

There is still a certain sadness in the eyes of Dr. Andrew Weil, but he described his triumph over years of depression on the Dr. Oz show today.

Dr. Oz had Andrew talk about the supplements that could help pull people out of their moods, but yet again, both doctors failed to discuss the underlying causal factors in a meaningful way.

Dr. Weil touched upon it briefly as he told the blond woman about ‘forgiveness’ for her sister being more for her own health. He also got in one moment of saying something about feeling a and showing ‘gratitude’, but it was so brief that most people missed two of the keys to Happiness.

Dr. Oz and Dr. Andrew Weil: The Happiness Plan

Weil unveiled his 4 Week Plan for people to follow in the pursuit of happiness, but it is going to be much more of an ‘inner process’ than he suggested during the show. He gave more of a list of band-aid solution supplements and ideas, instead of really getting into the depths of what constitutes authentic Happiness and Joy. It’s a ‘full Life’ issue, not a hand full of herbs, vitamins, or healthy oils…

Naturally, you can’t say it all in only one segment, but I guess that’s why you are expected to read his new book. I think that you might learn more about depression than happiness as he writes about his life story.

I suppose I should give credit where credit is due. The suggestion for EFAs, whole foods sources of nutrients for the brain, and a few other ideas will indeed help turn around the depression that the body feels when inflammation and distress weaken the human body. But the power of the mind and the Spirit are the key components to realizing and knowing authentic Happiness in one’s life. Food and nutrition is only one aspect of the blissful feeling of Joy…

Dr. Oz tried to breeze through the physical movement and breathing exercise that Andrew offered. That brief mention of Yoga could have been missed by most listening to the show… These doctors are still missing the point of deep spiritual connections to self, family, place, and purpose when they spend more time talking about the physiological aspects of depression and happiness. At least they are beginning to wake up…
