Dr. Oz and Yogi Cameron: 28 Days for Healthy Transformation

OK…the second time that I have watched this episode of Dr. Oz with Yogi Cameron reminded me that the ancient traditions from the East are worthy of attention by people in the West.

This young man, now a yogi who teaches yoga, diagnoses conditions, and makes recommendations for changes using an initial period of 28 days is making Dr. Oz rethink his references to the amount of time it takes to see a significant change in your health.

Cameron practices early in the morning and again later in the day. His poses looked like he knows what he’s doing. He has a little further to go before he masters Tongue Diagnosis, because he didn’t comment on some of the aspects of the audience member’s tongue presentation other than the coating on the back of her tongue.

Tongue and Pulse Diagnosis are commonly used in the Eastern Healing traditions to evaluate a person’s state of health and point to conditions inside the body without exploratory surgery, X-Rays, or other diagnostic tools that you will find in the West.

Each person is unique and presents differently, so you cannot make sweeping conclusions for anyone in 28 days, but it’s a nice thought. 28 days is a good beginning and long enough to ‘feel’ a change taking place as long as you follow the recommendations every day for that month.

You might notice a few headaches and other signs of detoxification if your system is especially toxic. But most people won’t feel much with the initial changes as the body will strengthen first and then detoxify when it is stronger.

The drinking of hot water or hot Chamomile Tea is fine in the morning. It’s better than shocking your system with coffee, fast food, or a heavy breakfast. Most of you will still benefit from eating some fresh organic fruit in the mornings or else you might be tempted to ‘cheat’ before you make time for lunch. Blueberries, any kind of berry, bananas, grapes, papaya, pineapple, guava, mango, peaches, cherries, and other fresh fruit are ideal in the morning as long as you don’t combine the fruit with any cereal or whole grain.

Many macrobiotic regimens suggest that you eat a good breakfast with whole grains, beans, sea vegetables, a fermented food, and vegetables to get your day started with a strong intake of nutrients and energy. It depends upon you as an individual. If you are weak, then eat a hearty breakfast; but if you are relatively sturdy, you can by with a fresh fruit breakfast or a fruit Smoothie.

Yogi Cameron’s regimen over the course of 28 days will give you an idea of how you can make simple changes that allow your body to begin to find health and well-being more plausible and attainable. The substitution of whole foods for processed foods is one step that is essential for you to improve your health. The use of salt baths for your nasal passages and ghee applications is an individual decision based upon your specific health status.

If you begin to do a little Yoga, you will propel your changes more rapidly, because of the bio-energetic component that is included in the practice of Yoga. Yoga can both invigorate and calm your body and mind.

After your initial 28 days, take stock of the changes that you ‘feel’ by using a Journal to record your daily progress. Then you will be more motivated to go for the next 28 days!
