Dr. Oz and the Power of the Pelvis: Dispell the Fear From Pelvic Floor Prolapse

This episode was one that I had missed when it was originally aired, but Dr. Oz has a timeless message for women who are flabbergasted when parts of their anatomy begin to emerge from their vaginal area. No wonder there is some fear when it happens, because very few talk about this topic.

Several female physicians tackled the subject with Dr. Oz and presented the things to watch for as well as what to do when it happens. This knowledge will dispell the fear that accompanies the experience of prolapse.

Dr. Oz felt that there was some degree of shame attached to this medical condition, but I feel that is more a matter of fear and apprehension. Most women don’t even know that this can happen.

Dr. Oz and the Pelvic Prolapse Issue

Usually, it’s the bladder, the uterus, or the bowel that is prolapsed and comes out through the vaginal opening. The organ can be gently pushed back inside with the fingers. The medical experts suggested that a person not panic, but set up an appointment with their gynecologist or health care provider to determine the best course of treatment which can include non-invasive or surgical procedures.

In my area of expertise, there are bio-energetic reasons for a prolapsed organ. The chi ‘sinks’ and must be supported to change the condition of that organ in the body. We traditionally use Chinese Herbal Formulas to accomplish this to restore the Balance of chi. We refer to the cause of a prolapse as ‘the sinking of the Spleen Chi’. When we use herbs, acupuncture, and whole foods to nourish the chi of the Spleen Meridian, we can reverse the weakening and strengthen the chi which in turn strengthens the physical organ in time. Your local acupuncturist may use moxibustion on Du20 in combination with needling of points to remedy the bio-energetic condition.

It is wise to seek health care from both an acupuncturist and your gynecologist when you wonder what’s happening in the case of a prolapse. The Kegel exercises that the expert demonstrated on Dr. Oz can be done daily, too. That’s one way to give power back to the pelvis!
