The doctors went all out to give you forty different ways to help you when you are feeling under the weather with colds or the Flu. Although some of their recommendations were the same old standard fare; there were some good food and home remedy ideas.

Dr. Jim is probably the funniest of the doctors with a sweet and adorable sense of humor. He soaked his feet in a hot water bath that included fresh rosemary, sage, and GARLIC cloves. Dr. Jim might be better off to cook with that garlic, season his food with the sage and rosemary, and then get some Essential Oils of Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano, Lemon, and Rosewood to diffuse which is going to do a lot more for his Immune System than soaking his feet in the herbs and garlic! Dr. Jim’s use of Eucalyptus Essential Oil is ideal for diffusion during the winter months when the Flu season seems to occur with greater frequency than at other times of the year.

While Dr. Oz discussed Ayurvedic Medicine with Holy Basil, Curry Powders, and Sandalwood as well as spices and herbs in the kitchen like turmeric, cumin, mustard seed, fenugreek seed, and the other common spices used in curries, Dr. Jim was basking in the aromas of the herbs in his foot bath. Dr. Jim also explained the benefits of a good night’s rest with blissful sleep for at least seven hours as a way to ensure that your body has the energy it needs to fight off the Flu or a cold…or prevent you from getting sick in the first place. Dr. Drew managed to make me laugh when he put his hand in the powder that showed up on his face with a black light or Ultra-Violet Light that Dr. Jim was using with Dr. Lisa to demonstrate how pathogens are transmitted to other people when they drink from the same glass or bottle. Dr. Drew explained that many people touch their face dozens of times every day which can result in the exposure to pathogens that invade the mouth, nose, or eyes. If you wash your hands regularly and refrain from touching your nose, eyes, and mouth; then you’ll be fine most of the time. Keep your beverage containers to yourself, don’t share, and don’t blindly trust other people’s bottles or glasses.

I absolutely LOVED the segment when the doctors paraded through the food court with audience members. Dr. Travis went from booth to booth to find out who was eating what… First, Dr. Travis took a big bite out of his apple. Then he found a yogurt breakfast treat with cacao (chocolate), banana, honey, and wheat germ to boost immunity with additional nutrients. Be sure to get yogurt or kefir which has ACTIVE cultures or make your own!

I cannot condone eating hot peppers in their naked form! Dont’ be stupid like the guy who bit into the pepper and visibly suffered as time went on while Dr. Drew was encouraging him. Cook with your peppers and chipotle. Do something smart in your kitchen or your grill, but don’t burn your mouth and esophagus the way this dude did on the show…how counterproductive that is! Your body will be too busy repairing the damage from the burning to use its energy for immunity.

It’s not so much the clams as it is the oysters, pumpkin seeds, and nutritional supplements to get more zinc. The best thing is to suck on Zinc Lozenges when you think you might be coming down with a bug or if you are exposed to someone who is sick with a cold or the Flu.

Dr. Travis continued his booth adventure by sitting with Dr. Lisa who was sharing orange juice, orange sauce, and other citrus fruits in both beverages and food dishes for getting vitamin C and E, selenium, and other nutrients that support your Immune System’s function. Dr. Lisa’s best 2 dishes were the soba noodles with the citrus glaze, almonds, and bell peppers and then the bok choi with shi-itake mushrooms. We’ve talked about these foods before on several occasions and they are always a good choice for a healthy Lifestyle.

Cinnamon, ginger root, oats, cranberries, and pecans are fine, but you can find a better recipe than this silly biscuit! Cinnamon can be used as an Essential Oil or the powder can be added when cooking foods or preparing beverages like Hot Apple Cider and Chai. Ginger root needs to be fresh to support immunity and can be made into a hot drink, added to salad and dressings, sauces, and glazes. We also love Ginger candies made by Reed’s to chew on when you are feeling a sore throat or sour stomach.

The advice to drink Green Tea and Black Tea for their antioxidant benefits which keep pathogens from adhering to the tissues of your body is good. You must be sure to get real Green Tea and fresh organic Black Tea in order to get the actual benefits. Tea that has been sitting on the grocery store shelves for months and tea that has been over-processed is not going to be of much use to you. Choose your Teas wisely!

While I could continue to discuss many of the aspects of the other remedies and suggestions given by the doctors; I want to implore you to consider avoiding the vaccines this year. They have combined the Swine Flu vaccine with the standard vaccine stock and we all know how that went last year. People reacted with undesirable problems, making it unsafe to inject this risky vaccine into the human body. Suit yourself, but you won’t find me taking a shot. I haven’t had the Flu since I was a youngster and I have never had a vaccine for the Flu, nor will I ever resort to that method for anyone I care about after learning about the science and the research that is hidden from the public. It is much better to strengthen your Immune System and enhance your Wei-Chi to protect your body from an invasion of pathogens. It has worked for me for more than forty years!

I do recommend the use of the Neti Pots and even the irrigation device that mimics the pot. The best thing that you can do is to strengthen your Immune System with whole foods, spices, herbs, and Essential Oils. However, that Chicken Soup looked almost as inviting as my Italian Family Recipe! We use organic chicken stock; organic vegetables including carrots, onions, celery, plus potatoes; herbs like oregano, thyme, cumin, rosemary, turmeric, fennel, and sage; plus we use plenty of garlic cloves, tomato, sea salt, and the love that makes it healing, soothing, and warming.
