Dr. Oz and TheDoctorsTV with Liz: Yogurt, Blueberries, Goji Berries, and Shi’itake Mushrooms

Yesterday, the frequent guest Liz from Prevention Magazine and doctors from TheDoctorsTV were nibbling on yogurt with blueberries. They were extolling the virtues of yogurt for taming a sour stomach and quelling a stomach ache or that queeziness you feel in your gut when you’ve eaten too much of the wrong foods or imbibed too much alcohol.

The doctors also mentioned that the blueberries will give you plenty of fiber which is good for digestive function. The blueberries also contribute their phyto-chemicals for oxidation and are thought to be one of the most powerful whole foods that have excellent anti-oxidant value. Blueberries also provide vitamin C and other nutrients which are great for your general health.

The yogurt needs to be plain and not sweetened to work for the purpose of settling your tummy ache, especially for young children. Don’t fall for the stupid ads on TV for Activia, because it’s so sweet and trying to compete with Yoplait. That’s not the kind of yogurt you want! Unless you want to feed the yeasties… If you have sensitivities to regular yogurt from cow’s milk, then get the new soy or coconut milk yogurt. It’s creamy, smooth, and tastes just fine.

Dr. Oz is describing yogurt, shi’itake mushrooms, and a couple of other foods to help women with their health today. Shi’itake mushrooms will be found dried and can be rehydrated with a twenty minute soak in water. Get rid of the tough stems when you add it to a vegetable dish, a soup, or a stew. If you rely upon whole foods to deal with your fatty metabolism; then eventually your body will regulate the cholesterol levels to maintain your health…without drugs. No statin at all is better than too little or too much to find your dose!

Goji Berries are fabulous for much more than just regulating your cholesterol levels! How shallow are the doctors when they suggest that these whole foods and herbs behave like drugs in the body…ridiculous! Dr. Oz…shape up! Get your Goji Berries on. These bright red to rose colored berries will be found dried, but they are usually soft enough to blend nicely in Smoothies and mix well in a salad almost like raisins. You can put Goji Berries in a fruit salad and you can even nibble on them or drop a handful on your yogurt or whole grain dishes. Goji Berries are referred to as wolfberries and are commonly used in TCM herbal formulations for a variety of health benefits.

Iron Chef Cat Cora brought pumpkin seeds to the Dr. Oz show and featured a couple of good ways to use these seeds to help people flatten their flabby bellies. Lemon juice, olive oil, and a little heat will jazz up pumpkin sees; but if you roast your pumpkin seeds in the oven and sprinkle tamari or sea salt on while they are still warm; they will dry to be a fantastic snack. Yes, you can use the toasted pumpkin seeds as a garnish, yet eat them throughout the day and evening to satisfy your hunger in place of potato chips or cookies.

Your belly and your skin and your endocrine system will all thank you for listening to Cat Cora and add pumpkin seeds to your diet, but your reproductive system and immune system will thank you when you continue to nibble on these seeds, berries, and mushrooms when you heed my advice and experience in the kitchen and in the Healing Arts.

    I’ve invited the whole family round this xmas for a big dinner, so obviously the roast is pretty important! I found a lot of recipes at this roast recipes site, but cant seem to decide on anyone – there’s too many to choose from! It is fun planning such a big xmas dinner though!
