Dr. Oz and Whole Grain Bread and Other Food for Thought
Dr. Oz is finally getting the message to his audience about the fraudulent food advertising mentality that tries to fool you into thinking that a processed food is better for you than the whole food original.
First is the multi-brain bread falacy. It’s not whole grain, it’s still flour… This is not nearly as good for you as the whole grains cooked to perfection with wonderful spices and seasonings. Go for the whole grains and forget the bread!
Next…eat nuts, seeds, and whole foods like olives, avocados, whole grains, flax and chia seeds, and salmon to get your EFAs. You have to realize that when a company jumps on the band wagon to get in on the most recent trend of healthy fats like Omega 3s, you simply must stay away from the marketing gimmick of adding them to a processed food. They can be rendered harmful when subjected to high heat during processing and they also go rancid very rapidly. Stick to the real whole foods as a source for healthy fats as well as enjoying organic oils like olive oil.
Canned foods are just going to be wrong choices for you unless you keep them in cases of emergencies. They have added sodium and other substances that you won’t find in fresh foods. The quality of the can matters, too.
Cookies, chips, snacks, crackers, and so many other processed foods are going to try to make you think that they are low in calories, low in fat, or low in sugar; when these are all added ingredients that don’t naturally occur in nature. Eat whole foods and make your healthy snacks yourself or buy them from a bonafide health-oriented company that you can trust to use organic ingredients, instead of synthetic chemical additives.
We know that you’re smart enough to know that marketing departments are trying to pull the wool over your eyes, but when you read the labels it becomes clear that any processed food is less healthy than a whole food.
Dr. Oz had his guest prepare halibut with olive oil, almonds, garlic, and lemon. It’s delicious and all of the ingredients in this dish are from whole foods, including the parsley that garnishes the dish. Wild salmon and talapia are also excellent choices for ensuring that you get your fair share of Omega 3s and other EFAs.
Balsamic Vinegar with Quinoa with the vegetables do represent a healthy food fix! The mixed berry granita will satisfy your sweet treat desire and complements the fish nicely. This is a great direction for Dr. Oz to go by giving you more options that are healthy in addition to telling you about the risks and problems associated with processed foods and the gimmicks that are used to sell them to an unsuspecting public.
Thank you Dr. Oz and production staff for an excellent episode that is going to lead people back to eating WHOLE FOODS.
