TheDoctorsTV and Medical Secrets That Demand Your Attention

The doctors discussed many of the medical problems that people keep as their personal secrets, but they do demand attention in order to resolve and understand how these secrets impact your health. No secret is too nefarious to share with your trusted health care professional and you can expose the most embarrassing things that shame many people into keeping them hidden when you do TRUST an expert to help you.

The issue of TRUST is the real lesson of this episode of TheDoctorsTV where the doctors talked about drug abuse, confusion about symptoms, and the social disapproval for self-pleasuring. Even to refer to masturbation as self-pleasuring shows the extent to which our culture judges this behavior. Dr. Lisa tried to take the shame out of the closet or bedroom for the woman who was in a long distance relationship. But do women really need to experience an orgasm every two days or eliminate the need for a partner altogether? Dr. Lisa basically gave people permission to explore theses issues without shame or fear. That’s progress, but still on the side of self-absorption when it comes to sexual gratification.

I did appreciate the discussion with the woman from Redbook magazine about health issues in the workplace. The trend for companies to include a Wellness in the Workplace program is encouraging and needs to be supported for the well-being of our population. People spend eight hours or more at work in an office environment where they can either be improving their health or compromising themselves. Chair massage and healthy food choices are becoming more and more readily available and are only two of the dozens of ways that employers can improve the workplace. Even the way you hold your phone or the amount of time spent on the computer can effect your productivity and your health. If you want to save money and reform health care at a national level, then it can begin by making a healthy environment at work and in our schools.

I was amused by Dr. Jim and Dr. Travis when they were talking about the changes that are taking place in our schools to get kids back into P.E. to use physical activity to stimulate mental clarity. No adult and no child can sit at a desk for hours on end and maintain total focus! We set up our children for failure by expecting them to do this day after day and it’s ridiculous. Fortunately, some school districts are realizing this and making the necessary and prudent changes in the classroom. I was so pleased to see the young female student who was learning scuba diving skills which will give her an advantage as she make her life choices. Culinary training, training in law enforcement, and now a trend to environmental management is long overdue and only represent a few of the career paths that should be offered to our students. Our children deserve to be given more choices and greater exposure to all the options available to them. When they can pursue their passion, they will more productive adults and contribute to our health as a nation and as world citizens. Even thought I grew up in a very small community, I had access to gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, golf, swimming, skiing, water sports, tennis, and horsemanship. It made a profound difference for many of my fellow students as much as it did for my own health and well-being. I made sure that my children could pursue the martial arts, yoga, archery, hiking, and dance as well as the traditional sports and activities that I enjoyed as a youth.

The secret is to bring all of these health and medical issues out into the open, so we can take a good look at all the aspects of how our secrets affect us. There’s no need for shame, fear, guilt, or confusion when it comes to being unaware or uninformed about these issues. Knowledge and communication is the key to erasing the need to keep secrets. Your attention to exploring and understanding these issues opens the door to learning more about your body and our social structures that nurture our families and children. It all begins with a comprehensive education in our schools and at home; then it continues in adulthood – even with introductions to topics like Tantra which broaden the horizons of people to meet their needs and become well-rounded and health individuals.
