Dr. Oz and More Than Four Brain Foods: Lentils, Walnuts, Chia Seeds, and Two Secret Supplements
If you watched the Dr. Oz Show today, then you got to hear about the four foods that Dr. Oz shared with his audience to help your brain age without the symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s disease. We’ll tell you more about these four foods and give you several more to consider that you might add to your diet to keep your brain healthy and functioning properly.
I want to give you an example of an exquisite brain to motivate you to do everything within your power to nourish your brain. Last night I had a dream that there were people in the restaurant business serving meals in several rooms. Most of these meals were the typical fare that you find in any restaurant which I never eat. One waitress walked by be carrying a plate of food that I knew was not healthy. I was sitting at a table in the area between the restaurant settings watching the endless march of meals. I looked down and one of my bowls of Lentil Soup appeared on the table. I was glad that there was now something that I could eat before me in my dream and became lucid. My friend, Fran, who is an acupuncturist walked over to my table and began to eat my Lentil Soup. She liked it and glanced at others standing at a distance. They came to the table and all of them began to share the Lentil Soup while describing the taste and flavor and obvious health benefits. That was the dream…
I am a lucid dreamer and this is nothing new for me. However, it has only been possible for me to dream my immediate future following training with Ramtha. I was pleased, but not surprised to see lentils featured on the Dr. Oz show today. It’s a demonstration of the process of ‘creating your day’ that is taught to students at RSE.
My Lentil Soup recipe is much better than the recipe that Dr. Oz has on his website. First of all, there is no canola oil requirement in my Soup. There is no reason for adding oil to a Soup. I prefer to use fresh organic herbs, so the thyme and basil would not be dried herbs to be added with little flavor, but rather fresh vibrant ingredients that add nutrients and robust flavor to the Soup.
If you are going to use salt, then use sea salt. Use organic vegetables and dark leafy greens along with parsley and cilantro in your Soup. Chicken broth is alright when you make it yourself from free-range healthy chicken stock; but use vegetable broth in your Soups to provide more flavor and extra nutrition. Yes, the celery, onion, and carrots are ideal primary vegetables; yet they are not your only options. Be creative! I always start my soups with some kombu and my special enhancement is tamari or miso to my Lentil Soup. I also put some oregano and cumin in my Soup. I roast my garlic cloves and the paste melts into the soup broth.
Chia Seeds are excellent for improving the health of your brain. You do want to buy organic Chia Seeds that are fresh, since seeds become rancid in a short period of time. We have posted several times about the various uses of Chia Seeds, so do a search on our site for additional information.
Walnuts were not mentioned today by Dr. Oz, but he has talked about them before and TheDoctorsTV docs spoke about Walnuts this week for brain health. Many nuts have healthy oils and nutrients that enrich the body, especially the brain. Once again, it’s essential that your nuts are fresh and organic.
Brazil Nuts are another good nut selection for the quality of the EFAs that nourish the brain. Brazil Nuts are not that easy to find, but they are delicious. You should get a wide assortment of nuts in your diet.
You might not have anticipated Dr. Oz’s endorsement of coffee on the show for the health of the brain. Not all coffee is the same. You want to purchase organic free-trade coffee from a reputable dealer that delivers it directly to your door. If you get coffee beans and grind them yourself…that’s the best way to preserve the integrity of the nutrient value in the beans. If you have to get ground coffee, then be sure to order smaller quantities for freshness and viable nutrient value. Coffee was described by the guest expert on Dr. Oz as useful in protecting the brain from unwanted materials that pass the blood-brain barrier. Coffee is more than caffeine, just like lentils are more than fiber and glucose. It’s weird that doctors try to break down whole foods and beverages into distinct molecules or compounds when it’s the beauty of the whole food that does the healing work…not the isolated substances. When will the physicians realize this?
There are two secret supplements that assist in providing nutrients for the brain. You can read about these in our Newsletter. Lecithin and germanium are two key ingredients in these nutritional supplements that support the brain.
One other thing that you can do in addition to eating whole foods like soy products and sea vegetables is to take a walk in Nature where you can deliver oxygen to your brain when you take long slow deep breaths. So many people live in artificial environments where there is air pollution, so spend some time outside where the air is clear and refreshing for your entire body.
Take good care of that brain of yours and learn how to dream and dare to create a healthy Lifestyle of Wellness in the process…
