Dr. Oz and Colon Cancer: What Options Do You Have for a Healthy Digestive System?
The new season of Dr. Oz has begun with a bang! He’s got a polyp in the Large Intestine which commands his attention and he wants his audience to know how important screening and prevention is…not only for your health, but for his own.
Dr. Oz is a different person. He is now fighting for his Life. He has changed. He doesn’t feel the same way about his body and his future. He called it by many names today on the first episode of the new season, but by any other name…it’s still ‘fear’.
His rational reaction is to explain what his experience was when he discovered the polyp during his first colonoscopy this summer. He was NOT expecting the results he has to face and it brings into question everything he knows about pathology and his own health. He now must take a serious look at what he’s doing daily and what needs to change. He has faced his own mortality. This caught him off guard and it was clearly visible in his face that he was shaken and disturbed. His immediate thoughts went to his family and their eventual need for screening and prevention. I felt his emptiness, his pain, his doubt, his confusion, and his passion to put this into perspective. The first thing he needs to do is to fully educate himself and his audience, so he approaches the future and every decision with a sense that he is completely aware and fully informed about the nature of colon cancer and how to keep the Large Intestine healthy.
The first thing that Dr. Oz and all of you can do to maintain or restore the health of the colon or Large Intestine is to eat organic whole foods and beverages. Nothing less will do… I’ve said it before and I will say it again; organic whole foods grown in nutrient-rich soil is of paramount importance. You can debate this all you want, but in the end it will become evident that the quality of food that you put into your body will make a difference in the health of your colon. You can’t get around it. It’s not about the cost of organic whole foods, it’s about what your Life is worth to you.
When Dr. Oz talks about prevention, he references screening and regular check-ups at your doctor’s visits. When we think of prevention, it’s not about preventing a disease as much as it’s about keeping your body healthy and strong! So whichever way you want to approach this subject, you need some good information. Sure…you can go on about your business and forget about a healthy Lifestyle, get your regular screenings, and hope that you don’t become a statistic. You can also become proactive, engage in a healthy Lifestyle, and dutifully make every decision in your Life that ensures your wellness. There’s a world of difference in the outcomes!
You may have heard Dr. Oz’s doctor say it. He said that a healthy Lifestyle is the best direction to go. He talked for a few minutes about a healthy Lifestyle and I do hope that people heard him loud and clear. He sees what happens when his patients don’t embrace a healthy Lifestyle and he sees those who do; so you can trust his comments to be valid and accurate. Good for you, Dr. LaPook!
Now let’s get into the details of what comprises a healthy Lifestyle that leads to a healthy colon and digestive system. If you begin with organic whole foods; then the next consideration is pure water and healthy beverages. The colon is one part of the body’s system for fluid metabolism. The purity of the water you drink and prepare your foods in is of the utmost importance. You can’t be drinking a glass of water from the tap or from your restaurant without being certain of the source and the purity. Even the water you bathe or shower in makes a profound difference in your health. The digestive system requires pure water for proper elimination and transportation.
You also have to work diligently upon the detoxification of your body when you live in a city of any size that emits any industrial by-products into the atmosphere which gets into the food supply and can affect your digestive system indirectly. If you drive in traffic, if you eat locally-grown food, if you ingest substances from places that are exposed to synthetic chemicals; then you have to take this into consideration. You are living in a polluted world and it takes a toll on your colon and liver.
You need to get a good amount of exercise and movement, even if its from massage therapy and bodywork weekly. If you don’t move your body, then your digestive system can become sluggish. Transport time can alter the way certain waste materials are eliminated or remain to damage the tissue of the digestive system. Tai Chi, Yoga, and other complete forms of movement are ideal.
There are some specific things that people like Dr. Oz might want to consider doing to enhance the health of the colon; but that will have to wait for another post. Be assured that there are many products and nutritional supplements that you can use to maintain or restore the health of your digestive system. Stay tuned and tune up your colon…
