Natural Has Been Redefined…Natural is No Longer Natural!

After watching TV ads in the last year, it is becoming clear that many traditional corporations are determined to enter the burgeoning Natural Foods and Health Foods Industry.

They call their products “natural”, when they do not actually meet with our commonly-agreed upon definition of “Natural” by any stretch of the imagination. You are expected to buy the advertising script without question and simply take their word for it. Their word is “natural”, but it is not the “real natural” that originally meant whole from Nature.

These companies have been watching the figures and see the statistics for the growth of our Industry rocket far ahead of their typical percentages.  Now they are trying to enter the Natural Foods Market with products that are labeled as natural, but do not meet our high standards.

Even if they are making a good effort to go the natural route, they don;t always do their homework or the due diligence needed to keep the standards in good standing.  They are used to cutting corners on quality of sourced materials, they let things slide without enforcing agreements, and they settle for inferior final products and packaging.

These companies have polluted the meaning of “natural” to the degree that we are having to come up with new words to describe our “real natural” food and products.  Fair Trade, Sustainable agriculture, and certified organic are in line for their corruption in time and in many cases have already been misused, thus misleading some consumers.

I observed this in motion on the Today show where clearly the woman expert had no grasp of the issues and was misinformed, passing on inaccurate information.  Tragic!
