Dr. Oz and Third Party Smoke, Better Skinny Soup, and Nuts for Longevity

Dr. Oz had a power-packed show today, complete with a skinny soup recommendation, the long-lived value of nuts, and the health risks of third hand smoke particulates. Of, course, we don’t want to forget to mention that vitamin D3 is great for one’s skin, although it is not the ONLY thing that you want to do to reverse psoriasis and other skin conditions.

Look…there are a lot of people who think that there are magic bullets for diseases or health issues, but that’s just not usually the case. It’s all about your complete Lifestyle.

Doctors and even some well-intentioned employees in stores or online shops will try to make claims for this or that vitamin or mineral or herb or supplement…attempting to give you the impression that there’s a quick fix for degenerative or chronic problems. The human body is much more complex than this and it takes more than one vitamin like D3 to change the causal factors that lead to chronic psoriasis. It is a comprehensive and consistent array of nutrients, whole foods, and healthy Lifestyle choices which will give you true and lasting WELLNESS. Please don’t let anyone with initials behind their names convince you that one drug or one vitamin will be enough…it rarely is.

Be your own health advocate by learning and knowing how your body works and follow your inner guidance while benefiting from the experience of professionals and physicians who have an education, but do not live in your body for you. You must ultimately take complete responsibility for taking good care of your own body, mind, and spirit.

Vitamin D3 has gotten a lot of publicity and press lately over the last two years, but it is only one part of the nutritional equation for total health. Your skin needs healthy lipids (oils), many trace minerals like zinc and silica, and so many other biochemical and bio-energetic support, so don’t think that adding one vitamin is sufficient. Having said that, it is important to get sunshine and consume foods which have these vitamins or take supplements to ensure that you are meeting your needs.

Nuts are nice… Not only for promoting a longer life, but to nourish the skin, the brain, the nervous system, and virtually every cell in your body with EFAs and lipids which compose the cell walls. Eventually Dr. Oz will tell you about phospholipids and you might just find that tofu and other foods which come from the lovely soybean, nuts, seeds, and foods like avocado are going to supply you with the healthy lipids or oils that keep you strong. Walnuts are one of Dr. Oz’s favorite nuts for the function of the brain. You will directly benefit from eating a variety of nuts ranging from almonds, cashews, walnuts, pine nuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, filberts, and pecans. You can be assured that you’ll get the freshest nuts online here:

As far as Skinny Soup recipes go, there are thousands of wonderful combinations of vegetables, greens, herbs, and meats which are going to help you regulate your weight. Dr. Oz had a guest who insists upon having her Skinny Soup daily. It’s a good ‘go-to’ food dish that will satisfy your hunger and keep you from eating snacks or dishes that are not nearly as healthy as soup for you. However, the recipe that this guest shares is lacking, so I am going to give you my suggestions on how you can improve upon this Skinny Soup.

First, use fresh ingredients and replace the tomatoes in a can with fresh organic tomato. Then you don’t have to add so much water and you’ll have more vitamin C and other nutrients that you won’t find in canned items. Skip the boullon cubes and use real chicken or beef broth. Those cubes could be old and rancid and have little flavor. The onion, carrot, and celery is traditional, with the addition of peppers and cabbage, it will make your soup more substantial. You most definitely want to season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, but don’t forget garlic cloves to round out the flavor and contribute to your immune system. Scallions and greens can be incorporated into your soups just before you serve it. Some potatoes, leeks, shi’itake mushrooms, and other vegetables will make your soup more robust. The idea of brown rice is fine, but consider some barley for a change. Personally, I add more herbs and spices to my soups, but then I operated a natural foods restaurant that demanded excellence. You’ll find some excellent bases and seasoning blends for your soups at Frontier.

Shop Frontier's wide selection of flavor-packed, certified organic dips and dressing mixes.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of second hand or even third hand smoke, especially from regular commercial cigarettes which contain known carcinogens. If you still smoke, then you are putting your entire family at risk for so many reasons. The smoke particulate and the toxic chemicals that remain long after you put out the butt are going to impact your health and the health of your children and pets, too. The easy solution is to smoke electronic cigarettes until you can quit completely. The mist from these electronic cigarettes is NOT smoke and is basically water vapor, so it is safe. You will still get your nicotine and engage in the behavior of puffing on a cigarette, but you will be doing it in a healthier way. Then you don’t have to go and hide outside or sneak around pretending to go to the bathroom to get your nicotine. It’s a clean way to maintain your habit. Plus you can smoke in public places that don’t allow regular cigarettes when you smoke electronic cigarettes instead. It’s a win-win-win situation for everyone.
