Dr. Drew mixed fresh lime juice and olive oil on the nails of an audience member and wrapped the hand with saran wrap covered by a sock for a long night’s sleep application. This is an external treatment that will help a little, but don’t ignore the internal nutrition that will be the real long term solution.

The fingernail polish is limited in the ability to restore the nail bed. It is primarily a topical application that is temporary and cosmetic. The nail might look better, but you still must address the internal health of the nail that is yet to grow from the nail bed outward. The only way to change that is to provide better nutrition to your body in order to grow a healthier and stronger nail. There are silica supplements and nutritional blends that are formulated specifically for nails and hair.

Dr. Jim talked about a biotin supplement which is a partial solution. If you are deficient in one B vitamin, it’s rather likely that you are also deficient in the rest of the B vitamins. Whole grains, sea vegetables, and other natural foods that are good sources of the vitamin B complex are the ideal solution. Feed your body and feed your nails!
