TheDoctorsTV and Dr. Oz: Learning About the Difference Between Whole Grains and Cereals!

It drives me crazy when I watch the doctors on TV tell people that they need to consume more Whole Grains and then describe cereals, bread, and flour. That is just WRONG!

Dr. Oz is especially guilty of this major mistake. He keeps talking about Whole Grains in theory, but he recommends whole wheat bread and oatmeal. What is it about the difference between a whole kernel of whole wheat and the PROCESSED flour that goes into making bread or cereal?

Think, doctors, think… LOL

The research done with Whole Grains shows that the fiber and the nutrients, especially the vitamin B Complex that occur naturally in grains is healthy for your colon and your other organs and systems. But the moment you grind the Whole Grains into flour and make cereal or bread or crackers with the FLOUR; it ceases to be as nutritious and it is no longer a WHOLE GRAIN.

The Whole Grain has been altered, it has been changed, and nutrients along with value for your health has been LOST! Is that difference so difficult to comprehend?

A cereal now is usually fortified with vitamins and minerals, but your body doesn’t recognize them nor does it absorb them in the same way as it does with a Whole Grain. Your body knows the difference!

If you honestly want to get the health benefits from Whole Grains; then you simply MUST eat Whole Grains. It cannot get any more basic than that!

You cannot turn cereals and bread back into whole grains…unless you are a magician or a quantum physicist skilled in the arts of mystical scientific transformation of matter. It’s a ‘Water into Wine’ type of thing…and there are very few alchemists who have mastered that ability. But then, they are smart enough to eat Whole Grains… LOL

Have you ever taken the time to cook Whole Grains? They do take time. Lots of time. This is the real issue and most people simply don’t make the time to prepare their Whole Grains for their meals. It is essential that you learn how to do this!

First, find a good pot. It cannot be aluminum or coated with teflon. Next, fill the pot with pure water. Bring the water to a boil. Then rinse your Whole Grains in a colander and add them to the boiling water. Add a pinch of sea salt. Let it boil until the grains have absorbed a fair amount of the water; then turn down the stove to simmer and cover the pot until the grains absorb the rest of the liquid.

Now you can take your pot of Whole Grain goodness off the stove, mix in your herbs and spices. Top off your dish with parsley, cilantro, or scallions. You are in for a delightful dish!

Once you begin to prepare a variety of Whole Grains to go with your other dishes; you’ll never miss bread or cereal again. Sure, you can always have them along with tortillas when the mood suits you; but you will find that you feel fortified when you eat your Whole Grain dishes.

Now…a doctor that has spent all that time studying while in medical school can surely read these instructions and follow them to the letter. Even doctors can learn to prepare Whole Grains. Then they will learn what the true difference is between Whole Grains, cereals, and bread. Night and day – day and night!

The biggest difference you will feel is in your digestive system, especially your elimination. You will also feel full and satiated for a much longer period of time. You will find that you have fewer cold sores, more energy, better memory, and improved general health!

Now, that’s worth changing from cereal and bread to real Whole Grains!

Kellogg cereals and other common brands can be replaced with organic alternatives that you’ll find at the Whole Foods Markets and your Food Co-ops if you persist in eating cereal. Kellogg had to recall some cereals due to a problem with the inner lining. You’ll find more attention to quality control with the organic cereal companies. Some of the organic cereals are excellent and the kids love them as much as the adults.

Kashi makes many healthy alternatives and there are dozens of companies that excel in turning whole grains into healthy snacks and meals. But there’s nothing quite as delicious and nutritious as making your own Whole Grain dishes!
